Dans ce contexte, comment les syndicats défendent-ils les intérêts des travailleurs? Ce mémoire vise à identifier et analyser la composition du répertoire des actions syndicales en lien avec la libéralisation des échanges commerciaux ainsi que leur mise en oeuvre dans les arènes politique, juridique, médiatique, syndicale et des conflits sociaux. 16 accords de libre-échange canadiens sont à l'étude et l'acteur retenu est la Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ). Les documents écrits relatant les activités de la FTQ ont été recueillis afin de reconstituer la trame des actions entreprises par cette dernière depuis 1985; année de lancement des pourparlers du premier accord de libre-échange canadien. Les actions syndicales sur la libéralisation des échanges concernent presque exclusivement les trois traités de l'ALÉ, de l'ALENA et de la ZLÉA. Le répertoire d'actions de la FTQ sur le libre-échange compte 35 modalités. Celles-ci se déploient principalement dans l'arène syndicale et des conflits sociaux. Les modalités d'actions répertoriées entre 1985 et 2008 se répartissent en 10 catégories-types. L'analyse de la mise en oeuvre des modalités montre que celles du type informatif-expressif représentent la moitié des 833 actions répertoriées. À travers le temps, la FTQ enrichit son répertoire en menant des formes d'actions novatrices quoique rarement reproduites. Parallèlement, l'éventail de modalités menées fréquemment et reconduites sur divers accords se contracte depuis l'ALÉ jusqu'à la ZLÉA. Au cours de la période étudiée, une transition s'observe. La FTQ passe d'actions sur des traités à des actions sur le thème général de la mondialisation.
