Book Syndicated Loans An explorative Analysis

Download or read book Syndicated Loans An explorative Analysis written by Navid Farid and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-08-20 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,3, EBS European Business School gGmbH, language: English, abstract: Modern world finance has seen numerous technologies entering the frame. Therefore, a whole host of new products have been launched in order to obtain advantage in an extremely competitive environment. However, the older products are also developing and becoming ever more global. Syndicated loans and the project finance loans are some of the most common types of large-scale loans in the world. Their main aim is to spread the risk over several entities, and to enable the debtors to obtain large sums of money. Banks are normally the entities providing these loans and they are usually used for various purposes. One special purpose of syndicated loans, which differs from other purposes, is project finance, which is often used for high amount construction or infrastructure projects. In fact, the syndicated and project finance loans have become some of the most important financing instruments for such transactions. The main idea behind both of these types of loans is the fact that the money being given out is too much for an individual bank or corporation, so they are willing to share the risk and the reward. Concerning project finance, the potential debtors get more assurances, since more of the entities are available for them to take out the loan from. This implies that these banks are cooperating with each other, while at the same time, thez are competing for the best possible rates of the provided loans. There is also the problem of the tranches for the companies. These are the actual money available for the companies from the loans. The financial crises in 2008 saw the trust rates fall significantly for the banks over the fact that they were no longer willing to cooperate with the clients due to high risk of defaults. Several imposed policies showed, that this was a serious fear in the financial system. Similarly, the banks were acting in order to protect their shareholders’ interests. 2008 – 2016 was a combined period of great uncertainty and it was undoubtedly one of the greatest economic challenges ever faced by the society. The syndicated loan market needed to withstand significant pressure from many influences in order to survive and emerge even stronger than prior to the crisis.

Book Structural Change in Banking

Download or read book Structural Change in Banking written by Michael Klausner and published by Irwin Professional Publishing. This book was released on 1993 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thrift crisis and recent weakness in the banking sector has intensified attention toward regulatory reform. But most proposals take as a given the traditional structure of banking, under which a bank holds illiquid loans and liquid liabilities. Structural Change in Banking explores the possibility of more fundamental changes in bank structure, which would reduce the instability that is inherent in the current structure. The major essays in this book, written by leading authors in the field, examine the historical legacy of limitations on bank branching and their consequences on bank structure and stability; how securitization affects the bank structure, risk, and liquidity; the advantages to a bank from having checking account information about its loan customers; and the potential for money market funds and finance companies to become the banks of the future. Structural Change in Banking is an essential tool for bank regulators, legislators, executives, and anyone concerned with rectifying the instability of traditional banking structure. This book not only makes a strong argument for change, it provides an intelligent analysis of alternatives through which credit can be provided.

Book Risk Taking and Interest Rates

Download or read book Risk Taking and Interest Rates written by Seung Jung Lee and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2017-01-27 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study how low interest rates in the United States affect risk taking in the market of crossborder leveraged corporate loans. To the extent that actions of the Federal Reserve affect U.S. interest rates, our analysis provides evidence of a cross-border spillover effect of monetary policy. We find that before the crisis, lenders made ex-ante riskier loans to non- U.S. borrowers in response to a decline in short-term U.S. interest rates, and, after it, in response to a decline in longer-term U.S. interest rates. Economic uncertainty and risk appetite appear to play a limited role in explaining ex-ante credit risk. Our results highlight the potential policy challenges faced by central banks in affecting credit risk cycles in their own jurisdictions.
