Download or read book Manganese Ores of Supergene Zone Geochemistry of Formation written by I.M. Varentsov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major part of the world's high grade industrial manganese ore is being mined in supergene deposits. This book represents the first attempt to bring together not only academic but also commercial data on all aspects of the geochemistry of formation of supergene manganese ores. It is a distinctive account of the geology, geochemistry, mineralogy, experimental modelling studies, mechanisms of formation processes and geochemical evolution through geological time of manganese ores for all types of supergene deposits. Special emphasis is placed on the general geochemical model of supergene manganese ore formation, which can be applied in geochemical exploration. Despite the fact that supergene manganese ores have been used by mankind since the early centuries, it is only during the last decade that a comprehensive understanding of the nature of geochemical processes of formation of these deposits has become available and their potential as an economic resource has been recognized against other genetical types of manganese accumulations. Audience: This substantial and comprehensive volume is of interest to economic geologists, mining engineers, geochemists, mineralogists and other specialized geoscientists.
Download or read book Mn Manganese written by Wolfgang Töpper and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is the first of a series describing Mn minerals. There has been no attempt to provide a thorough (bibliographically complete) coverage of the literature. Rather, a selection of papers was undertaken to cover especially the various aspects of occurrence and genesis. Papers that only mention an occurrence of a minerat species without additional data will not be taken into account, except if they represent an unusual type of occurrence. The volume starts with a brief outline of the chemical and geo-/cosmochemical character istics of Mn; its abundance and distribution in the cosmos and on earth; and its distribution in minerals. The main part describes the native metal, its solid solutions with Fe or Al, and silicides and carbide; the sulfides and related compounds; the halogenides and oxyhalogenides; and the oxides of type MO. The minerat descriptions comprise the following topics: occurrence (comprising data on paragenesis, intergrowths, inclusions, and alteration); chemistry (comprising complete analysis, formula, diadochy, and the relationship be tween composition and type of geological occurrence or composition and physical proper lies); crystal form and structure; optical and other physical properties; and chemical and thermal behavior. Download or read book Classifications and Historical Studies written by Bozzano G Luisa and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classifications and Historical Studies is a collection of papers dealing with theoretical and applied ore petrology. One paper discusses the use of conceptual models in geology such as the diagrammatic/pictorial, the flow-chart, and the tabular types of conceptualizations. Another paper describes some transitional types of mineral deposits in volcanic and sedimentary rocks. Concentrations of copper minerals and commonly associated metals form deposits associated with orogenic belts and cratonic regions. The paper points out that many major groups of mineral deposits grade into other groups through occurrences with intermediate or transitional characteristics. It suggests a classification method of mineral deposits based on the observable features of the mineral deposits rather than their inferred genesis. One paper reviews the theory of magmatic—hydrothermal replacement origin of stratiform sulfide ore bodies. The review covers concepts of certain major ore deposits as being independent and isolated phenomena to regarding a wide range of deposits as contemporaneous, indigenous, and related to their environments. Another paper points out that according to North American geologists, certain types of ore deposits are formed syngenetically and are subjected to the same metamorphic events that affect the ores in which they are enclosed. The collection can be valuable to researchers, technical designers, or engineers whose works are related with oil refinery and fossil fuels, as well as to students majoring in geology.
