Book Control and Prevention of Odours in the Water Industry

Download or read book Control and Prevention of Odours in the Water Industry written by Richard M. Stuetz and published by IWA Publishing (International Water Assoc). This book was released on 2000-05-31 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The release of unpleasant odours during wastewater and sludge treatment and disposal is not new. However, in recent years the level of complaints concerning the release of these offensive odours has increased. This is in part a direct result of the encroachment of housing on lands surrounding existing wastewater and sludge treatment works, together with the raised awareness of the public over its rights related to environmental issues. To avoid the creation of nuisance odours in wastewater and sludge treatment requires an understanding of those processes that are responsible. Odours that are formed within wastewater and sludge will not create an odour nuisance until they are released into the atmosphere. It is therefore important to understand the mechanisms by which odours are formed and then released and dispersed in order to provide effective control systems. The CIWEM-IAWQ odour conference enabled practitioners, regulators and researchers to present findings on a wide range of topics relating to the control and prevention of odours. Twenty-two papers have been selected for these proceedings. They examine the regulation of odour emissions, techniques used to measure and model odour emissions and treatment technologies used to control and prevent odour formation and emission.

Book Networks for Water Policy

Download or read book Networks for Water Policy written by Hans Bressers and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-04-03 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Network models for analysing public policy have become widely used in recent years. This volume, originally published in 1995, assesses the network idea by applying a common perspective on network analysis to the constellations involved in water policy formation and implementation in England and Wales, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, the USA and at the level of the EU. Water policy – addressing basic human needs for the supply of adequate surface and groundwater as well as for the maintenance and improvement of water quality, is an increasingly salient subject. Each case covered in this volume treats the issues of water policy network composition and structure, and determinants of network characteristics, as well as documenting the influence of the networks on policy developments towards more network openness, emulation of business behaviour nd less domination by traditional professional groups such as engineers. Essays by the editors provide a common analytical perspective and offer both explicitly-comparative conclusions and evidence-based assessments of the strengths and limitations of the network perspective.

Book Odours in Wastewater Treatment

Download or read book Odours in Wastewater Treatment written by Richard M. Stuetz and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2001-03-01 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wastewater treatment works have the potential to generate unpleasant odours, which can results in annoyance and consequently have a detrimental effect on a local population. As a result 'odour control and prevention' has become an important consideration both in the management of existing facilities and in the design and gaining of planning consent for new works. Odours in Wastewater Treatment provides readers with a detailed discussion on the basic principles involved in the formation of volatile compounds in wastewater treatment. Accounts are given of recent developments in the sampling and measurement of odours, practical examples in the prediction and dispersion of odorous emissions are offered and an overview of the technologies currently used to contain and treat odorous compounds presented. Contents Introduction Odours associated with wastewater treatment Odour sampling and measurement Assessment and prediction of nuisance odours Odour control and treatment
