Book Energy Dissipators

Download or read book Energy Dissipators written by W.H. Hager and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy dissipators are an important element of hydraulic structures as transition between the highly explosive high velocity flow and the sensitive tailwater. This volume examines energy dissipators mainly in connection with dam structures and provides a review of design methods. Book Energy Dissipators and Hydraulic Jump

Download or read book Energy Dissipators and Hydraulic Jump written by Willi H. Hager and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stilling basins utili z ing a hydraulic jump for energy dissipation are w i d e l y used in hydraulic engineering . D a Vinci was the first to describe the hydraulic jump, and Bidone conducted classical experiments about 170 years ago . Stilling basins w e r e developed in the thirties with signif- cant design improvements being made during the last sixty years . Although w e l l - a c c e p t e d guidelines for a successful design are presently available, the information for the design of such dissipators is not yet compiled in book form . This book provides state-of-the-art information on hydraulic jumps and associat ed stilling basins . A large numbe r of papers on the to pics are reviewed. T h e present trends of the art of designing a stilli ng basin are discussed and ideas for future research are outlined. Design criteria and recommendat ions are frequently given . However, this should not be considered as a r eady-to -use guideline since the design of an effective stilling basin is much more comple x than following general design steps . The book is divided into two parts. Part 1 on hydraulic jumps is c- prised of chapters 2 to 5. Part 2 consisting of chapters 6 to 14 deals with various hydraulic structures used to dissipate energy. The lists of notation and references are provided in each part separately although the same notation is u sed throughout.

Book Rockburst Evolutionary Process and Energy Dissipation Characteristics

Download or read book Rockburst Evolutionary Process and Energy Dissipation Characteristics written by Dazhao Song and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-27 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the evolution process of rockburst based on the energy dissipation theory and proposes appropriate active prevention and control technologies. It discusses the electromagnetic radiation (EMR) generated by coal rock fractures as a measurement of the amount of dissipated energy, and the use of EMR to experimentally observe the time domain characteristics of energy dissipation during coal rock failure processes. It then proposes the concept of the rockburst activity domain system (RADS), establishes a dynamic pressure model of rockburst, and describes the energy criterion for rockburst instability. Lastly, it presents two waterjet cutting-based cases of pressure relief and rockburst prevention. The book serves as a reference resource for mine safety workers, engineering technicians, scientists, graduate students and undergraduates engaged in research on dynamic hazards such as rockburst..

Book Design of Hydroelectric Power Plants Step by Step

Download or read book Design of Hydroelectric Power Plants Step by Step written by Geraldo Magela Pereira and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-09-20 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of a hydroelectric plant, along with an installation of transformation of potential energy of water into electricity, is an activity that is not standardized. Each new project is an interesting engineering challenge, and teams need to work in different conditions of each site, integrated to design a functional, economical and environmentally sustainable project. The development of a project, here understood as the plant itself, the reservoir, the maneuver substation and the associated transmission line, is a multidisciplinary activity that encompasses areas of civil engineering, geology, mechanical and electrical engineering, environmental engineering, economic engineering, construction and assembly, and the engineering of operation and maintenance of civil works and electromechanical equipment. The book is organized to facilitate the performance of professional life of the new generations of engineers who will join the Electric Sector, or in other sectors that demand the knowledge regarding hydraulic structures. The book is a simple manual providing the practical step-by-step procedure for designing hydroelectric plants, including legislation, with a general view of the project.
