Book excerpt: 'A master of the genre' The Times Britannia has been subdued - and an epic new chapter in Marcus Valerius Aquila's life begins. The murderous Roman agents who nearly captured Marcus have been defeated by his friends. But in order to protect those very friends from the wrath of the emperor, he must leave the province which has been giving him shelter. As Marcus Tribulus Corvus, centurion of the second Tungrian auxiliary cohort, he leads his men from Hadrian's Wall to the Tungrians' original home in Germania Inferior. There he finds a very different world from the turbulent British frontier - but one with its own dangers. Tungrorum, the center of a once-prosperous farming province, a city already broght low by the ravages of the eastern plague that has swept through the empire, is now threatened by an outbreak of brutally violent robbery. A bandit chieftain called Obduro, his identity always hidden behind an iron cavalry helmet, is robbing and killing with impunity. His sword - sharper, stronger and more deadly than any known to the Roman army - is the lethal symbol of his unstoppable power. And now he has moved beyond mere theft and threatens to destabilize the whole northern frontier of the empire . . . 'Some authors are better historians than they are storytellers. Anthony Riches is brilliant at both.' Conn Iggulden

Book Scratching My Head with a Two Edged Sword

Download or read book Scratching My Head with a Two Edged Sword written by Robert C. Brown and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-04-08 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to show the simplicity of a complex God. There is a danger of not seeing what we’re reading because our presumptions have sometimes blinded us, and we don’t have inspiration on the Revelation. It is my hope that this book will be a light unto many pathways. God’s word is meant to come alive in the hearts of men. It is my hope that this book will stir up your pure minds and people learn to be careful HOW they hear and avoid any type of perverted gospel that only causes an “emotional high,” to the neglect of food for the soul. This book will definitely make you think, because it will challenge what you’ve heard and cause you to read in depth as the teaching comes alive. I am eternally grateful that my wife Pamela, before her passing in January 2017, inspired me to get the words out of my head and encouraged me to write this book. Will it cause you to scratch your heads? Probably. . .

Book The Sword of the Lord Musings of a Country Preacher Volume Two

Download or read book The Sword of the Lord Musings of a Country Preacher Volume Two written by Robert Coward and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-10-23 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Musings of a Country Preacher are the internal thoughts exposed by Robert Coward, a minister, sinner, backslider, and recaptured prisoner of God to do his bidding once more. Robert Coward, with his life experiences; including world travels and education in four institutes of higher learning, have given him a perspective on Christian ideology that is unique, eye opening, and quite controversial in today's post modern world. Claiming to be a pre-modern man who holds fast to conservative, fundamental Christianity, Coward tells it like he believes it is and pulls no punches. Not even when it comes to his personal life. Enter the mind of a man who has been to the far reaches of the planet and back; to the highest highs of a life with God, to the lowest lows of what it's like to be a prodigal son that has now returned to his God. His Facebook group site "The Sword of the Lord", was begun to help others in their walk with God, to stand firm when life goes awry, and to not make the same mistakes as he.

Book Sword of Persia

Download or read book Sword of Persia written by Michael Axworthy and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03-24 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nader Shah, ruler of Persia from 1736 to 1747, embodied ruthless ambition, energy, military brilliance, cynicism and cruelty. His reign was filled with bloodshed, betrayal and horror. Yet, Nader Shah is central to Iran's early modern history. From a shepherd boy, he rose to liberate his country from foreign occupation, and make himself Shah. He took eighteenth century Iran in a trajectory from political collapse and partition to become the dominant power in the region, briefly opening the prospect of a modernising state that could have resisted colonial intervention in Asia. He recovered all the territory lost by his predecessors, including Herat and Kandahar, and went on to conquer Moghul Delhi, plundering the enormous treasures of India. Nader commanded the most powerful military force in Asia, if not the world. He repeatedly defeated the armies of Ottoman Turkey, the preeminent State of Islam, overran most of what is now Iraq and threatened to take Baghdad on several occasions. But from the zenith of his success he declined into illness, insane avarice and horrific savagery, committing terrible atrocities against the Persian people, his friends, and even his family, until he finally died as violently as he had lived. The "Sword of Persia" recreates the story of a remarkable, ruthless man, capable of both charm and brutality. It is a rich narrative, full of dramatic incident, including much new research into original Iranian and other material, which will prove indispensable to historians and students. The book includes many contemporary illustrations, and maps.

Book excerpt: The first book, The Flaming Sword, was not so much of a daily devotional at all; but worth exploring as well, if not before this devotional! In my ministry, counselling with so many people, I found that people need the Word of God simply broken down in simple reading; as many just read the Bible without really understanding what they are reading! Folayan Osekita, a servant prophet and evangelist of the Living God, has done this so well; and all the reader needs is to take the time and trouble to commit to daily reading and studying of the devotional - and they would surely be very blessed in Jesus Name!

You must study His Word regularly if you want to keep your spiritual sword sharp and wield it effectively. In this book, Joseph G. Misiaszek embarks on a daily journey through Scripture, challenging you to take your faith deeper and walk even closer to the Lord. The title—Daily Sword Sharpening—comes from Proverbs 27:17, “As Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” As you read, it is the author’s fervent hope that you not only keep your sword sharp but also utilize it to sharpen others, encourage others, and support others. The author emphasizes that even though the Bible was written over several thousand years and completed about two thousand years ago, truth is truth and is always applicable. For truth to exist, there can only be one source—and that source is God. Challenge yourself to read God’s Word daily and open yourself to the Holy Spirit as He applies Scripture to your life, and through you, to the lives of others.

Book excerpt: Such a blasphemous bastardisation of a word, 'Commonwealth'. 'Common' meaning of, or to, everyone regardless of place or estate and 'wealth' meaning relating to weal - wholeness, prosperity, health and success. the Puritans calling the theological tyranny of all aspects of England after the regicide the 'Commonwealth' is almost the closest to the ultimate debasement of English common parlance I can imagine. But not quite. I consider marginally worse their use of 'Protectorate'. You don't 'protect' rabbits by putting the most vicious and nasty weasel you can possibly breed down the warren-holes. It was bad enough the war between 'forty-two and 'forty-six lacerated England corporate in all aspects to a perilous degree. Even the most hideous wounds, if clean, can scab and scar over and the body become hale, if scarred, again. Sometimes surprisingly quickly. Take my word of honour as an ex-Officer for it. During my time soldiering I saw scores of such miraculous cases. But although that war wounded England grievous, it was the toxin of Puritanism so thoroughly rubbed into the gaping injuries during the wounding that turned England corporally and spiritually septic for over a decade thereafter. I pen these words with relief that the 'Commonwealth' and 'Protectorate' are now dead. Puritans are now selling up their property and leaving the country as despised and ostracised scum by the boat-load, with the generality spitting at their backs as they leave. the Americas are welcome to those that are commissioning the voyage boats and I'm glad the Shipwrights are profiting from their emergency fabrication. I hope the foundling Colonies have some use for the manure, for the meadows of England don't.
