Book The Shadow on the Blind and Other Stories

Download or read book The Shadow on the Blind and Other Stories written by Louisa Baldwin and published by Wordsworth Editions. This book was released on 2007 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late Victorians had an insatiable appetite for the macabre and sensational: stories of murder and suspense, ghosts, the supernatural and the inexplicable were the stuff of life to them. The two writers in this volume well represent the last decade of the nineteenth century, and are of interest in themselves as well as for their contribution to the chilling of the Victorian spine. Mrs. Alfred Baldwin attempted as a child to contact her dead sister through a seance, and took to writing when stricken by a mysterious illness six weeks after marriage. She was also the mother of the Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin. Lettice Galbraith is herself no less mysterious than the stories she wrote. She appeared on the literary scene in 1893, published a novel and two collections of stories in that year, a further story ("The Blue Room") in 1897, and then nothing more. Readers of 'The Empty Picture Frame', 'The Case of Sir Nigel Otterburne', 'The Trainer's Ghost' and 'The Seance Room' will recognise the Victorian spirit at its finest.

Book D A L E

Download or read book D A L E written by Don Swinford and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-12-04 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells us that we dont have to look that far to find heroes and inspirations. Just because some make headlines and serve in high places doesnt necessarily make them good people. Look around, as I have, to see why you are as you are. Im proud to be from the grass roots of America. From people who worked in the dirt in an effort not only to make the world a better place but also to make better lives for their children. Struggle was part of life and affected most families, but it also built character and produced individuals who are worthy of remembering and celebrating with a written remembrance.

Book Social Justice and Communication Scholarship

Download or read book Social Justice and Communication Scholarship written by Omar Swartz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social Justice and Communication Scholarship explores the role of communication in framing and contributing to issues of social justice. This collection, a first on the subject of communication and social justice, investigates the theoretical and practical ways in which communication scholarship can enable inclusive and equitable communities within American society. It analyzes ways in which to construct communities that protect individual freedom while ensuring equality and dignity to everyone. In this unique anthology, Swartz brings together both senior scholars and junior colleagues to represent diverse applications of communication to issues of social justice. He supports partisan scholarship in order to revitalize intellectual activity and social commitment toward creating a progressive society. As a result; the volume serves the heuristic function of posing new research questions. In addition to its relevance within the field of communication, Social Justice and Communication Scholarship will be of interest in many of the humanities and social sciences, as research on the theme of social justice transcends disciplinary boundaries. The volume is particularly well suited for use in undergraduate and graduate courses in communication, rhetoric and composition, journalism, American studies, and cultural studies.
