This has also been influenced by the European Water Framework Directive about which, as the book discusses, there are both myths and misunderstandings. Whether this will be enough to save these wetlands remains to be seen. What is certain is that Spain will be a poorer country for the loss of these outstandingly beautiful and unique sites.
