Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being Caught In The Eye Of Natures Most Powerful Storm On The Planet October 10th, 2018, was the day my whole life has changed forever in being in the eye of the perfect storm. This specific storm has given me an insight that riding it out was a poor choice and reminding me that evacuating is extremely important if you live in a hurricane prone area. It also has given me intuition of the living conditions while enduring the wrath of the storm. I was stubborn to heed the evacuation orders from the officials, therefore I've learned a crucial life lesson. What's included in the story while encountering the storm: My preparation ahead of time before the storm arrived My experience while enduring the intense winds in the eyewall of the hurricane Experiencing in being in the eye of the beast The living condition after the hurricane passed through The aftermath in the vicinity of the neighborhood A guide on what you should and should not do while being in the path or enduring the hurricane I lived in Callaway, (FL) my whole life before moving up north to Charlotte, (NC) recently. Located in the Florida Panhandle between the cities of Pensacola to its west and Tallahassee to its east, Callaway is in the suburbs of Panama City, FL. I've been fascinated in tracking natural disasters such as hurricanes for as long as I can remember. I consider myself a weather nerd. Hurricanes are mother nature's most beautiful storms that should be respected but at the same they can be extremely destructive. Even though hurricanes are nature's most beautiful storm from a meteorological standpoint, at the same exact time they can be extremely deadly and drastically change lives.

Book The Hungry Ocean

Download or read book The Hungry Ocean written by Linda Greenlaw and published by Hachette Books. This book was released on 2001-08-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term fisherwoman does not exactly roll trippingly off the tongue, and Linda Greenlaw, the world's only female swordfish boat captain, isn't flattered when people insist on calling her one. "I am a woman. I am a fisherman. . . I am not a fisherwoman, fisherlady, or fishergirl. If anything else, I am a thirty-seven-year-old tomboy. It's a word I have never outgrown." Greenlaw also happens to be one of the most successful fishermen in the Grand Banks commercial fleet, though until the publication of Sebastian Junger's The Perfect Storm, "nobody cared." Greenlaw's boat, the Hannah Boden, was the sister ship to the doomed Andrea Gail, which disappeared in the mother of all storms in 1991 and became the focus of Junger's book. The Hungry Ocean, Greenlaw's account of a monthlong swordfishing trip over 1,000 nautical miles out to sea, tells the story of what happens when things go right -- proving, in the process, that every successful voyage is a study in narrowly averted disaster. There is the weather, the constant danger of mechanical failure, the perils of controlling five sleep-, women-, and booze-deprived young fishermen in close quarters, not to mention the threat of a bad fishing run: "If we don't catch fish, we don't get paid, period. In short, there is no labor union." Greenlaw's straightforward, uncluttered prose underscores the qualities that make her a good captain, regardless of gender: fairness, physical and mental endurance, obsessive attention to detail. But, ultimately, Greenlaw proves that the love of fishing -- in all of its grueling, isolating, suspenseful glory -- is a matter of the heart and blood, not the mind. "I knew that the ocean had stories to tell me, all I needed to do was listen." -- Svenja Soldovieri

It wasn't until she was divorcing her husband that she learned the truth about his disorder, and suddenly the years of lies, manipulation, adultery, and addiction made sense. In her book, Levesque explains how her own empathic personality made her the perfect victim of her husband's narcissistic desires and demands. Even after filing for divorce and learning of his sex addiction, criminal activity, bankruptcy, and boundless depths of cruelty, Levesque still struggled with her empathic tendencies to rescue and "fix" the man she had loved for so long. Using e-mails, texts, and letters, Levesque chronicles the painful months it took to navigate her divorce from a man willing to resort to almost anything to keep her in his life. She provides insight into why victims choose to stay with a narcissist and why it is so difficult to leave and then shows the reader how she survived and ultimately freed herself from a relationship with a toxic person.
