Book Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival

Download or read book Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiac arrest can strike a seemingly healthy individual of any age, race, ethnicity, or gender at any time in any location, often without warning. Cardiac arrest is the third leading cause of death in the United States, following cancer and heart disease. Four out of five cardiac arrests occur in the home, and more than 90 percent of individuals with cardiac arrest die before reaching the hospital. First and foremost, cardiac arrest treatment is a community issue - local resources and personnel must provide appropriate, high-quality care to save the life of a community member. Time between onset of arrest and provision of care is fundamental, and shortening this time is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of death and disability from cardiac arrest. Specific actions can be implemented now to decrease this time, and recent advances in science could lead to new discoveries in the causes of, and treatments for, cardiac arrest. However, specific barriers must first be addressed. Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival examines the complete system of response to cardiac arrest in the United States and identifies opportunities within existing and new treatments, strategies, and research that promise to improve the survival and recovery of patients. The recommendations of Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival provide high-priority actions to advance the field as a whole. This report will help citizens, government agencies, and private industry to improve health outcomes from sudden cardiac arrest across the United States.

Book The Occupational Therapy Managers Survival Handbook

Download or read book The Occupational Therapy Managers Survival Handbook written by Florence S Cromwell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical volume, in a casebook approach, was developed in response to the complex issues that today’s manager faces. Several chapters include valuable resource materials as well. Key concerns are addressed, such as justifying more therapist staff, evaluating staff performance, collecting and analyzing cost data to establish fees, weighing ethical and liability concerns, and teaching students about their future responsibilities. The Occupational Therapy Manager’s Survival Handbook provides useful material for any therapist who wishes to examine and strengthen his or her role as a manager.

Book Measuring and Modeling Health Care Costs

Download or read book Measuring and Modeling Health Care Costs written by Ana Aizcorbe and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health care costs represent a nearly 18% of U.S. gross domestic product and 20% of government spending. While there is detailed information on where these health care dollars are spent, there is much less evidence on how this spending affects health. The research in Measuring and Modeling Health Care Costs seeks to connect our knowledge of expenditures with what we are able to measure of results, probing questions of methodology, changes in the pharmaceutical industry, and the shifting landscape of physician practice. The research in this volume investigates, for example, obesity’s effect on health care spending, the effect of generic pharmaceutical releases on the market, and the disparity between disease-based and population-based spending measures. This vast and varied volume applies a range of economic tools to the analysis of health care and health outcomes. Practical and descriptive, this new volume in the Studies in Income and Wealth series is full of insights relevant to health policy students and specialists alike.

Book Tumor Microenvironment and Cancer Therapy

Download or read book Tumor Microenvironment and Cancer Therapy written by Shoaquan Zheng and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-10-17 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well established that the tumor microenvironment(TME) plays a pivotal role in tumor initiation, progression and therapeutic resistance by creating a dynamic interaction with cancer cells. TME is comprised of extracellular matrix (ECM), growth factors, nutrients, blood and lymphatic vessels, and non-cancer stromal cells, which serve as a sustained niche for cancer cells to proliferate and metastasize. Notably, various cellular components in TME, including endothelial cells, fibroblasts, pericytes, adipocytes, immune cells, cancer stem cells, and vasculature, could promote tumor’s immune evasion and growth.
