Download or read book The Occupational Therapy Managers Survival Handbook written by Florence S Cromwell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical volume, in a casebook approach, was developed in response to the complex issues that today’s manager faces. As therapists assume managerial responsibilities, there is need to share experiences and lessons learned. In this volume, a common format is used to present each case, including chronology of events, alternatives considered, risks involved, and outcomes. Several chapters include valuable resource materials as well. Key concerns are addressed, such as justifying more therapist staff, evaluating staff performance, collecting and analyzing cost data to establish fees, weighing ethical and liability concerns, and teaching students about their future responsibilities. The Occupational Therapy Manager’s Survival Handbook provides useful material for any therapist who wishes to examine and strengthen his or her role as a manager.
Download or read book Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiac arrest can strike a seemingly healthy individual of any age, race, ethnicity, or gender at any time in any location, often without warning. Cardiac arrest is the third leading cause of death in the United States, following cancer and heart disease. Four out of five cardiac arrests occur in the home, and more than 90 percent of individuals with cardiac arrest die before reaching the hospital. First and foremost, cardiac arrest treatment is a community issue - local resources and personnel must provide appropriate, high-quality care to save the life of a community member. Time between onset of arrest and provision of care is fundamental, and shortening this time is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of death and disability from cardiac arrest. Specific actions can be implemented now to decrease this time, and recent advances in science could lead to new discoveries in the causes of, and treatments for, cardiac arrest. However, specific barriers must first be addressed. Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival examines the complete system of response to cardiac arrest in the United States and identifies opportunities within existing and new treatments, strategies, and research that promise to improve the survival and recovery of patients. The recommendations of Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival provide high-priority actions to advance the field as a whole. This report will help citizens, government agencies, and private industry to improve health outcomes from sudden cardiac arrest across the United States.

Download or read book Model Systems of Development and Aging of the Nervous System written by Antonia Vernadakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last decade has generated a multitude of studies using in vitro model systems to explore growth and differentiation of the nervous system. Although the findings have been exciting and have revealed unique properties of neural cells, considerable concern continues to be expressed regarding the significance of in vitro findings in terms of their applicability to in vivo biological events. To examine this issue further, a group of scientists pre sented and discussed their findings at a conference sponsored by the Institute of Developmental Neuroscience and Aging held in Crete, Greece, 26-29 May 1985. The conference was cosponsored by the University of Crete and was generously supported by the Ministry of Research and Technology of Greece, Tourism Organization of Greece, and also Sandoz and FIDIA. The Directors of the Institute of Developmental Neuroscience and Aging are indebted to these Institutions for their support. For the success of this conference, the Directors owe much to Drs. Eleni Fleischer-Lambropoulos and Yiannis Tsouderos, who spent countless hours in making arrangements so that the participants would have not only a scientific, but also a unique cultural, experience. Several chapters of this book focus on the complex phenomena of neurogenesis and gliogenesis, and the modulation of neuronal differentiation. The concept that neuronal differentiation has both genetic and epigenetic components is documented by elegant studies using both in vitro cultured cells and neurons transplanted in vivo.

Download or read book Tumor Microenvironment and Cancer Therapy written by Shoaquan Zheng and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-10-17 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well established that the tumor microenvironment(TME) plays a pivotal role in tumor initiation, progression and therapeutic resistance by creating a dynamic interaction with cancer cells. TME is comprised of extracellular matrix (ECM), growth factors, nutrients, blood and lymphatic vessels, and non-cancer stromal cells, which serve as a sustained niche for cancer cells to proliferate and metastasize. Notably, various cellular components in TME, including endothelial cells, fibroblasts, pericytes, adipocytes, immune cells, cancer stem cells, and vasculature, could promote tumor’s immune evasion and growth.
