Book Ethics Training in Action

Download or read book Ethics Training in Action written by Leslie E. Sekerka and published by IAP. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making sure that performance in business enterprise is achieved ethically is no small task. Leaders, managers, and employees at every level of the organization need to utilize systems and processes that support ethical strength, establishing a workplace where responsibility, accountability, and doing the right thing are genuinely valued and practiced. Management can help support ethical performance in workers’ daily task actions by underscoring the importance of rules and regulations, while also moving to ensure that employees understand and care about doing what’s right. Given that most firms only emphasize compliance in ethics training, there is vast room for additional development. Training people to be less bad is not good enough. With the infusion of mandatory requirements for ethics training programs in some firms and self-imposed initiatives in others, we see a range of deliverables. To advance ethics in practice, a closer look at ethics training in the workplace is warranted. This volume attempts to better understand ethics in organizational settings by taking a focused look at the science of ethics training and best practices, areas for concern, specific techniques, application outcomes, how to cultivate an ethical work environment, and considering where opportunities for additional inquiry reside. Managers and practitioners reading this book will garner specific trends and useful techniques that can inform, guide, and improve their efforts to build ethical awareness and effective ethical decisionmaking within their organizations. Academic scholars will find this book useful, providing insight as to where additional research and empirical work is needed.

Book Toxic at Work

  • Author : David Gillespie

Download or read book Toxic at Work written by David Gillespie and published by Macmillan Publishers Aus.. This book was released on 2023-09-26 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most bullies are psychopaths, but not all psychopaths look like bullies. Many blind us with their charm and dazzle us with their success. But they all share a common trait that makes them highly dangerous: they don't have empathy. Research tells us that one in twenty people have no empathy. Empathy is the human ingredient that enables trust, forges bonds and allows teams to work and workplaces to thrive. It is why we are able to build cities and play football. The psychopath is not interested in cooperative effort but in individual power and glory - and they will stomp on anyone who gets in their way, destroying careers, teams and, sometimes, organisations. Using research and stories drawn from history, politics, sports and business, Gillespie explains how workplace psychopaths - from bosses to clients, colleagues and customers - see the world, and highlights their devastating impact on workplaces. He shows empaths how to self-protect and organisations how to use trust, transparency and teamwork to insulate against the corrosive impact. Unflinching in its analysis of the problem and clear-sighted in suggesting solutions, this is an essential guide for spotting, managing and ejecting the workplace psycho, once and for all.

Book Surviving the Ultimate Workplace Bully My Story

Download or read book Surviving the Ultimate Workplace Bully My Story written by William Johnson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-06-16 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I had been bullied in school for being gay I could not have imagined that, years later, I would be bullied the workplace, but I was, and not just for being gay. Many books have been written about kids being bullied in school, but very few books have been written about people being bullied in the workplace. I had to ask myself why that was. The answer was simple, because most folks who are bullied in the workplace, whether they be male or female, are, most times, terrified to come forward and report to higher management that someone, or more than one someone, whether they be male or female, is bullying them. Why are victims of bullies in the workplace terrified to report it to upper management or HR? Because, as you will see in my book, most times when a person is being bullied in the workplace it is being done by someone in upper management, and, as I have found out, HR will stand by the bully in upper management. And yes, bullies in the workplace can be male or female... ...as I sadly found out for myself.

Book Mobbed Out of Existence

  • Author : Mary A. Lewis
  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2016-08-27
  • ISBN : 9781536820225
  • Pages : 194 pages

Download or read book Mobbed Out of Existence written by Mary A. Lewis and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-08-27 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wholeheartedly bought into the American dream that told me if I planned right and worked hard, I could achieve anything I set my sight upon. I came very close to achieving my American dream when I came face-to-face with real evil in the form of a group of work colleagues I considered to be good people. For this gang, the American dream was theirs to grant or deny. They decided who succeeded and who was disposable. Success in this company had nothing to do with talent, dedication, hard work, knowledge or experience and everything to do with who the group in charge liked, who was willing to play their deceitful games and who was willing to sell their integrity for the price of a job. In this environment, dreams were achieved at the price of your soul - a price I was unwilling to pay. I tell my story in this book with the hope that other victims of abusive behavior in the workplace recognize the signs of the campaign being waged against them in secret. I want them to be aware of what is happening to them at the time it is happening so that they can be strategic in how they counter-attack. Power abusers, like the ethics officer in my workplace and the bully in the school bathroom, need their targets to remain ignorant of their strategies so that the target questions himself at every turn. As someone who fell victim to their successful strategies, my goal with this book is to arm other targets with knowledge so that they can forge an effective offensive and defensive counter strategy. This book was a very long time in the making because it required all the years it took for me to become thoroughly honest with myself so that I could write a book that honestly confronts this pernicious problem in our society. What we have labeled as bullying doesn't only destroy a person's confidence, self esteem, mental acuity and overall sense of well being; it also kills their dreams. All my plans and goals were stopped dead in their tracks once I was targeted. It didn't have to be that way. According to the extensive research I have conducted on the subject, my story is just one of so many that are getting played out in all areas of our society. The bullies of our world are increasingly becoming the winners of our world. The only way to eradicate the problem, in my view, is to turn the tables on them and increasingly make them the losers of our world. In the case of bullying, we are often told to turn the other cheek and ignore the disordered behavior of a person or persons who have made it their mission to destroy us. Unfortunately, turning the other cheek by ignoring the bullying behavior does not work in war and it will never work in our schools and workplaces where bully type personalities have declared war on their targets. In civilized environments, we have the luxury of expecting respectful behavior directed towards us when we respect other people. Bullies and the group think of the mob that they instill in their enablers and bystanders are not civilized. They are war mongers in every sense of the word but unlike an official declaration of war, they plan their cowardly war in secret behind the closed doors of a bathroom or board room. Strategies of a civilized society like turn the other cheek do not work in war and they will not work in combating the bullies and mobs of our schools and workplaces. Different strategies are required if the target of a bullying/mobbing campaign wants to survive the ordeal emotionally, mentally and financially whole. Who better to supply us with the strategies of winning a war than the experts in war? Along with some preventive strategies that build inner confidence, I have included in this book some strategies used by the U.S. Army and put them in the context of a workplace whose values and mission have been supplanted by amoral people who have personal agendas they are willing to carry out by any and all means.
