Book Survivability Primer

Download or read book Survivability Primer written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Survivability is discussed in terms of its four main ingredients: detectability, hitability, vulnerability, and repairability. The discussion centers about methods for adding survivability value to Army materiel and personnel, mainly from the developer's rather than the user's point of view. The primer is intended for guidance to developers and is restricted to a nonnuclear combat environment. Examples are introduced to demonstrate how personnel and materiel have been given or might be given more survivability value through various measures, without compromising the effectiveness or the performance of the system to which the personnel and materiel belong.

Book Nuclear and NBC Contamination Survivability of Medical Materiel

Download or read book Nuclear and NBC Contamination Survivability of Medical Materiel written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides military personnel and contractors involved in the development and acquisition of military equipment with background information pertaining to Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) contamination survivability. Two categories of threat environments identified as Nuclear Weapons Effects (NWE) and NBC contamination are thoroughly described as well as the NBC terminology, protective measures, engineering practices, and organizational responsibilities that must be considered during materiel acquisition. The content in this paper was consolidated from the vast number of military standards (MIL-STDs), data item descriptions (DIDs), Army regulations (ARs), Quadripartite Standardization Agreements (QSTAGs) and other military documents that concern nuclear and NBC contamination and survivability as well as the input of the U.S. Army Nuclear and Chemical Agency, U.S. Army Laboratory Command and the U.S. Army Chemical Research, Development, and Engineering Center. Keywords: Nuclear hardening criteria; NBC contamination survivability criteria; Decontaminability; Nuclear weapons effects; NBC Parameters; NBC contamination test facilities.

Book Making the Soldier Decisive on Future Battlefields

Download or read book Making the Soldier Decisive on Future Battlefields written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-06-10 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. military does not believe its soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines should be engaged in combat with adversaries on a "level playing field." Our combat individuals enter engagements to win. To that end, the United States has used its technical prowess and industrial capability to develop decisive weapons that overmatch those of potential enemies. In its current engagement-what has been identified as an "era of persistent conflict"- the nation's most important weapon is the dismounted soldier operating in small units. Today's soldier must be prepared to contend with both regular and irregular adversaries. Results in Iraq and Afghanistan show that, while the U.S. soldier is a formidable fighter, the contemporary suite of equipment and support does not afford the same high degree of overmatch capability exhibited by large weapons platforms-yet it is the soldier who ultimately will play the decisive role in restoring stability. Making the Soldier Decisive on Future Battlefields establishes the technical requirements for overmatch capability for dismounted soldiers operating individually or in small units. It prescribes technological and organizational capabilities needed to make the dismounted soldier a decisive weapon in a changing, uncertain, and complex future environment and provides the Army with 15 recommendations on how to focus its efforts to enable the soldier and tactical small unit (TSU) to achieve overmatch.

Book The Evolution of US Army Tactical Doctrine 1946 76

Download or read book The Evolution of US Army Tactical Doctrine 1946 76 written by Robert A. Doughty and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper focuses on the formulation of doctrine since World War II. In no comparable period in history have the dimensions of the battlefield been so altered by rapid technological changes. The need for the tactical doctrines of the Army to remain correspondingly abreast of these changes is thus more pressing than ever before. Future conflicts are not likely to develop in the leisurely fashions of the past where tactical doctrines could be refined on the battlefield itself. It is, therefore, imperative that we apprehend future problems with as much accuracy as possible. One means of doing so is to pay particular attention to the business of how the Army's doctrine has developed historically, with a view to improving methods of future development.

Book Weapon Systems Handbook

Book excerpt: July 2019 Printed in BLACK AND WHITE The Army's Weapon Systems Handbook was updated in July 2019, but is still titled "Weapon Systems Handbook 2018." We are printing this in black and white to keep the price low. It presents many of the acquisition programs currently fielded or in development. The U.S. Army Acquisition Corps, with its 36,000 professionals, bears a unique responsibility for the oversight and systems management of the Army's acquisition lifecycle. With responsibility for hundreds of acquisition programs, civilian and military professionals collectively oversee research, development and acquisition activities totaling more than $20 billion in Fiscal Year 2016 alone. Why buy a book you can download for free? We print this so you don't have to. We at 4th Watch Publishing are former government employees, so we know how government employees actually use the standards. When a new standard is released, somebody has to print it, punch holes and put it in a 3-ring binder. While this is not a big deal for a 5 or 10-page document, many DoD documents are over 400 pages and printing a large document is a time- consuming effort. So, a person that's paid $25 an hour is spending hours simply printing out the tools needed to do the job. That's time that could be better spent doing mission. We publish these documents so you can focus on what you are there for. It's much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com. Book excerpt: Volume 5, Deep Maneuver: Historical Case Studies of Maneuver in Large-Scale Combat Operations, presents eleven case studies from World War II through Operation Iraqi Freedom focusing on deep maneuver in terms of time, space and purpose. Deep operations require boldness and audacity, and yet carry an element of risk of overextension - especially in light of the independent factors of geography and weather that are ever-present. As a result, the case studies address not only successes, but also failure and shortfalls that result when conducting deep operations. The final two chapters address these considerations for future Deep Maneuver.
