Book C4ISR for Future Naval Strike Groups

Download or read book C4ISR for Future Naval Strike Groups written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2006-05-26 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Navy has put forth a new construct for its strike forces that enables more effective forward deterrence and rapid response. A key aspect of this construct is the need for flexible, adaptive command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems. To assist development of this capability, the Navy asked the NRC to examine C4ISR for carrier, expeditionary, and strike and missile defense strike groups, and for expeditionary strike forces. This report provides an assessment of C4ISR capabilities for each type of strike group; recommendations for C4ISR architecture for use in major combat operations; promising technology trends; and an examination of organizational improvements that can enable the recommended architecture.

Book Target Acquisition in Communication Electronic Warfare Systems

Download or read book Target Acquisition in Communication Electronic Warfare Systems written by Richard Poisel and published by Artech House Publishers. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This cutting-edge resource arms professionals with the full array of traditional methods and modern high-resolution techniques for acquiring communications targets. The book details how to develop optimum methods for acquiring communications targets for exploitation or countermeasures. Additionally, it teaches how to establish the optimum techniques for detection of deterministic signals with random parameters as well as stochastic signals. Whether designing or operating EW systems, professionals can turn to this guide to measure how effectively their EW systems cope in crowded RF environments." "This practical reference explains how to apply window techniques for spectrum estimation and determine how these techniques affect the target acquisition process. Moreover, it discusses how to efficiently manage target acquisition with such artificial intelligence techniques as fuzzy logic and evidential reasoning. In addition to explaining methods and applications, this book is a complete source for information on designing and evaluating EW target acquisitions systems."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book U S Army Reconnaissance and Surveillance Handbook

Download or read book U S Army Reconnaissance and Surveillance Handbook written by Department of the Army and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout history, military leaders have recognized the importance of reconnaissance and surveillance. Gaining and maintaining contact with the enemy is essential to win the battle, and U.S. military history contains many examples where our knowledge of the enemy, or lack of knowledge, directly led to victory or defeat. The role of reconnaissance and surveillance has not diminished on the modern battlefield; if anything, it has become even more important. Battles at the combat training centers prove that a good reconnaissance and surveillance effort is critical to successful attacks. On the other hand, a poor reconnaissance and surveillance effort almost guarantees defeat for the commander. The message is clear: success on the battlefield begins with reconnaissance and surveillance. Direct from the United States Army, U.S. Army Reconnaissance and Surveillance Handbook provides tactics, techniques, and procedures for reconnaissance and surveillance planning, mission management, and reporting. It also covers the development of intelligence to support counter-reconnaissance operations, employment considerations for reconnaissance, and surveillance assets, and defines the roles of various personnel in planning operations. Intended for maneuver commanders and their staffs; intelligence staffs and collection managers; and other personnel involved in planning and reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance operations, and now available to everyone, U.S. Army Reconnaissance and Surveillance Handbook provides an insider’s look into the world of Army intelligence.

Book Elements of a Battalion Integrated Sensor System

Download or read book Elements of a Battalion Integrated Sensor System written by U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the second phase of a research program designed to investigate requirements for an effective integrated surveillance system utilizing several combinations of radars and night vision devices. The results, obtained in a realistic setting, showed that: (1) the highest quality of target detection information reported to battalion was obtained by surveillance teams consisting of one AN/PPS-5A Ground Surveillance Radar Operator, one Night Observation Device Operator, a team chief, and a radio-telephone operator; (2) ground surveillance radar operators were unable to identify reliably either target types or target classes (wheel vs track vehicles; personnel vs vehicles) under (simulated) operational conditions; (3) simple, low-cost modifications to training and work procedures greatly enhanced the performance of PPS-5A ground surveillance radar operators.

Book Realizing the Potential of C4I

Download or read book Realizing the Potential of C4I written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-06-17 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid progress in information and communications technologies is dramatically enhancing the strategic role of information, positioning effective exploitation of these technology advances as a critical success factor in military affairs. These technology advances are drivers and enablers for the "nervous system" of the militaryâ€"its command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) systemsâ€"to more effectively use the "muscle" side of the military. Authored by a committee of experts drawn equally from the military and commercial sectors, Realizing the Potential of C4I identifies three major areas as fundamental challenges to the full Department of Defense (DOD) exploitation of C4I technologyâ€"information systems security, interoperability, and various aspects of DOD process and culture. The book details principles by which to assess DOD efforts in these areas over the long term and provides specific, more immediately actionable recommendations. Although DOD is the focus of this book, the principles and issues presented are also relevant to interoperability, architecture, and security challenges faced by government as a whole and by large, complex public and private enterprises across the economy.
