Book Surgical Management of Congenital Heart Disease II

Download or read book Surgical Management of Congenital Heart Disease II written by Viktor Hraška and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximately 120 different surgical procedures are used to correct congenital heart diseases, and the burden that this places on the surgeon is compounded by the exceptional complexity of the techniques and the rarity of many of the lesions. Training is problematic, not least because of legal issues, and currently available texts, drawings, and images are no substitute for real 'live' surgery. Against this background, the authors have set out to create an interactive multimedia manual that covers many aspects of congenital heart surgery. Each heart defect is addressed in an individual chapter, elaborating specific surgical anatomy and indication for surgery of heart defect first, followed by video clips depicting the operative approach and technique. The clips are accompanied by a clear descriptive narrative, and patient history and diagnostic images are available to provide a clear backdrop to the operation. The chosen format makes this manual not only a very powerful teaching tool for practicing cardiac surgeons and surgeons in training but also a valuable source of information for related services such as pediatric and adult cardiologists, cardiac anesthesiologist, cardiac intensivists, perfusionists and medical students.

Download or read book Congenital Heart Disease in Pediatric and Adult Patients written by Ali Dabbagh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-09 with total page 1025 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Congenital Heart Disease in Pediatric and Adult Patients: Anesthetic and Perioperative Management provides a comprehensive, up-to-date overview of care of the pediatric patient undergoing cardiac surgery and anesthesia. After introductory chapters that encompass pediatric cardiovascular embryology, physiology and pharmacology, diagnostic approaches and preoperative considerations are explained. The intraoperative management of a wide range of specific lesions is then discussed, with full descriptions of anesthesia plans added with descriptions on diagnostic methods and surgical interventions. Postoperative care is also addressed, and a concluding section considers anesthesia outside the cardiac operating room. In the twenty-first century, advances in minimally invasive technology have led to the introduction of a wide array of pediatric cardiac procedures. More traditional surgical procedures have also been transformed by new devices and surgical approaches. The cardiac anesthesiologist is faced with an ever-increasing role in the perioperative care of pediatric patients undergoing cardiologic procedures in operating rooms, as well as less conventional locations. In this book, accomplished experts from around the world in the fields of pediatric anesthesia, cardiology, and cardiac surgery describe the multiple facets of caring for this very unique patient population.

All of these individuals need to have a clear understanding of the morphology and pathophysiology of congenital heart disease as well as the surgical manipulations that take place in the operating room. This textbook describes in detail the current practice in congenital heart surgery of Richard A Jonas and the team from Harvard Medical School in Boston with whom he worked closely for many years. The book includes numerous beautiful illustrations providing comprehensive and detailed information about intra-operative management of the entire spectrum of congenital heart surgery. However, this is much more than an operative atlas that illustrates how an operation should be done; it also incorporates an evidence-based approach, supported throughout by numerous scientific citations, to explain when and why an operation should be done as well as the risks, benefits and potential complications.
