This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume combines the proceedings of two prominent symposia presented by TMS's Materials Processing and Manufacturing Division (MPMD). Papers from the Surfaces and Interfaces in Nanostructured Materials Symposium bring together experts working on different aspects of study, such as fabrication, characterization, modification, and modeling, to identify and address important issues, such as structure-chemistry-property relationships; surface engineering approaches in the nanoscale regime; chemistry and atomic bonding at interfaces; kinetics, diffusion paths, and related effects at interfaces; fabrication of "bulk" nanostructures; and advances in interfacial modification/engineering techniques. Proceedings from the Global Innovations Symposium on Materials Processing and Manufacturing: Trends in LIGA, Miniaturization, and Nanoscale Materials, the fifth in a series sponsored by the MPMD, provide description, insight, challenges, and projections for advances in miniaturized part manufacturing, evaluation, and applications. This collection provides a visionary look to where investments in materials research are likely to occur and what areas in materials R&D are ripe for discoveries that will have major impact on quality of life. From 2004 TMS Annual Meeting which was held in Charlotte, North Carolina, March 14-18, 2004.

Book Nanostructure Science and Technology

Download or read book Nanostructure Science and Technology written by Richard W. Siegel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-05 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Timely information on scientific and engineering developments occurring in laboratories around the world provides critical input to maintaining the economic and technological strength of the United States. Moreover, sharing this information quickly with other countries can greatly enhance the productivity of scientists and engineers. These are some of the reasons why the National Science Foundation (NSF) has been involved in funding science and technology assessments comparing the United States and foreign countries since the early 1980s. A substantial number of these studies have been conducted by the World Technology Evaluation Center (WTEC) managed by Loyola College through a cooperative agreement with NSF. The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Committee on Technology's Interagency Working Group on NanoScience, Engineering and Technology (CT/IWGN) worked with WTEC to develop the scope of this Nanostucture Science and Technology report in an effort to develop a baseline of understanding for how to strategically make Federal nanoscale R&D investments in the coming years. The purpose of the NSTC/WTEC activity is to assess R&D efforts in other countries in specific areas of technology, to compare these efforts and their results to U. S. research in the same areas, and to identify opportunities for international collaboration in precompetitive research. Many U. S. organizations support substantial data gathering and analysis efforts focusing on nations such as Japan. But often the results of these studies are not widely available. At the same time, government and privately sponsored studies that are in the public domain tend to be "input" studies.

Book Severe Plastic Deformation

Download or read book Severe Plastic Deformation written by Burhanettin Altan and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been already well established that the nanostructured materials (materials with a grain size of 100mm or less) is the future materials. Nanostructured materials possess properties superior to those of conventional, coarse grained materials. Hence designing potentially cost efficient and environmentally friendly products with better performance is a possibility. Among others, nanostructured materials exhibit increased strength, hardness and ductility and provide an opportunity for superplastic forming. When all the procedures in use for the production of nanostructured materials are examined, only severe plastic deformation (SPD) processes exhibit a potential for producing relatively large samples suitable for industrial applications. In this monograph, the state-of-the-art on severe plastic deformation methods is presented in one volume. The monograph is organised into eight chapters, each of which contains papers on different aspect of severe plastic deformation methods prepared by the experts in this field. The topics covered in the monograph are structure formation, phase transformation, superplasticity, mechanical properties of nanostructured materials, electronic and magnetic properties of nanostructured materials, deformation analysis, novel SPD methods, commercialisation of ECAE method.

Book The Nano Micro Interface 2 Volumes

Download or read book The Nano Micro Interface 2 Volumes written by Marcel Van de Voorde and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2015-03-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Controlling the properties of materials by modifying their composition and by manipulating the arrangement of atoms and molecules is a dream that can be achieved by nanotechnology. As one of the fastest developing and innovative -- as well as well-funded -- fields in science, nanotechnology has already significantly changed the research landscape in chemistry, materials science, and physics, with numerous applications in consumer products, such as sunscreens and water-repellent clothes. It is also thanks to this multidisciplinary field that flat panel displays, highly efficient solar cells, and new biological imaging techniques have become reality. This second, enlarged edition has been fully updated to address the rapid progress made within this field in recent years. Internationally recognized experts provide comprehensive, first-hand information, resulting in an overview of the entire nano-micro world. In so doing, they cover aspects of funding and commercialization, the manufacture and future applications of nanomaterials, the fundamentals of nanostructures leading to macroscale objects as well as the ongoing miniaturization toward the nanoscale domain. Along the way, the authors explain the effects occurring at the nanoscale and the nanotechnological characterization techniques. An additional topic on the role of nanotechnology in energy and mobility covers the challenge of developing materials and devices, such as electrodes and membrane materials for fuel cells and catalysts for sustainable transportation. Also new to this edition are the latest figures for funding, investments, and commercialization prospects, as well as recent research programs and organizations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electroplating was widely used to electrodeposit the nanostructures because of its relatively low deposition temperature, low cost and controlling the thickness of the coatings. With advances in electronics and microprocessor, the amount and form of the electrodeposition current applied can be controlled. The pulse electrodeposition has the interesting advantages such as higher current density application, higher efficiency and more variable parameters compared to direct current density. This book collects new developments about electroplating and its use in nanotechnology.
