Book Surface Science Studies of the Bonding and Reaction of Nitrogen and Sulfur containing Compounds on Transition Metal Surfaces

Download or read book Surface Science Studies of the Bonding and Reaction of Nitrogen and Sulfur containing Compounds on Transition Metal Surfaces written by Andre Klein and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Density functional theory (DFT) was used to model the chemisorption of monomethylamine on Cu(111). These calculations showed that adsorbate-substrate antibonding levels form immediately above and within the d-band, while the involvement of Cu dxz,yz electrons in bonding (as observed by UPS) was also predicted. Finally, previous x-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD) data of methanethiolate (CH3S-) on Cu(110) were modeled with single-scattering cluster (SSC) calculations. These showed that CH3S orients normal to the surface in the [110] azimuth, but with an opposite tilt (V9 ̕off-normal) along [001]. Furthermore, the calculations suggested that methanethiolate adsorbs at hollow sites on the unreconstructed surface, with the oppositely-tilted pairs in a c(4 x 4) geometry with 50% coverage. A best fit with the experimental data was obtained for a S-CU1 separation of 1.155 Å.

Book Transition Metals and Sulfur A Strong Relationship for Life

Download or read book Transition Metals and Sulfur A Strong Relationship for Life written by Martha Sosa Torres and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-04-06 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal-Sulfur clusters play an essential role in living organisms through the unique character of sulfur-metal bonding. The new volume in prestigious Metal Ions in Life Sciences explores different transition metal complexes with sulfur, their biosynthesis and biological functions in regulation of gene expression, catalysis of important metabolic reactions and protein structure arrangement.

Book Transition Metal Sulfur Chemistry

Download or read book Transition Metal Sulfur Chemistry written by Edward I. Stiefel and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides an overview of sulfur-coordinated transition metal complexes. It explores how studies of transition metal sulfur sites facilitate understanding of enzymatic and industrial catalytic systems, and it reviews recent research on synthetic analogs to nitrogenase and other transition metal sulfur enzymes relevant to industrial desulfurication. The volume examines synthesis, X-ray structures, and reactivity of transition metal sulfur complexes.

Book Chemical Bonds Outside Metal Surfaces

Download or read book Chemical Bonds Outside Metal Surfaces written by Norman H. March and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of molecules interacting with metal surfaces has for a very long time been recognized to be of considerable technological as well as fundamental importance. Thus in the former category, a substantial number of important synthetic reactions for industrial purposes make use of metal surfaces as catalysts. Or again, problems of corrosion of metals are of great practical importance, such as in nuclear-reactor technology [see, for instance, my earlier articles, in: Physics Bulletin, Volume 25, p. 582, Institute of Physics, UK (1974); and in: Physics and Contemporqry Needs (Riazuddin, ed. ), Vol. 1, p. 53, Plenum Press, New York (1977)]. It is therefore of significance to strive to gain a more fundamental understand ing of the atomic, and ultimately the electronic, processes that occur when a molecule is brought into the proximity of a metal surface. The present volume focuses mainly on the theory and concepts involved; however, it is intended for readers in chemistry, physics, and materials science who are not specialists in theory but nevertheless wish to learn more about this truly interdisciplinary area of theoretical science. The aim of the book is to present the way in which valence theory can be synthesized with the understanding of metals that has been gained over the last half century or so. While advanced theory has at times been necessary, is largely presented in an extensive set of Appendixes.

Book Physics of Surfaces and Interfaces

Download or read book Physics of Surfaces and Interfaces written by Harald Ibach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-11-18 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This graduate-level textbook covers the major developments in surface sciences of recent decades, from experimental tricks and basic techniques to the latest experimental methods and theoretical understanding. It is unique in its attempt to treat the physics of surfaces, thin films and interfaces, surface chemistry, thermodynamics, statistical physics and the physics of the solid/electrolyte interface in an integral manner, rather than in separate compartments. It is designed as a handbook for the researcher as well as a study-text for graduate students. Written explanations are supported by 350 graphs and illustrations.
