Book Surface Plasmon Enhanced Raman Scattering at Thin Silver Films

Download or read book Surface Plasmon Enhanced Raman Scattering at Thin Silver Films written by R. M. Corn and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raman spectra are reported for liquids and Langmuir films enhanced by the electromagnetic fields of plasma surface polaritons at flat silver surfaces. The Kretschmann prism coupling configuration is used to excite the incident surface polariton and to couple out the Raman shifted surface wave. The spectra are interpreted with the help of a simple quantum theory and compared with previously reported grating spectra. Enhancement factors, polarization characteristics, and the feasibility of using surface polaritons to enhance the Raman spectra of adsorbates on flat electrodes in contact with aqueous electrolyte are discussed. Book Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering

Download or read book Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering written by Richard Chang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the course of the development of surface science, advances have been identified with the introduction of new diagnostic probes for analytical characterization of the adsorbates and microscopic structure of surfaces and interfaces. Among the most recently de veloped techniques, and one around which a storm of controversy has developed, is what has now been earmarked as surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). Within this phenomenon, molecules adsorbed onto metal surfaces under certain conditions exhibit an anomalously large interaction cross section for the Raman effect. This makes it possible to observe the detailed vibrational signature of the adsorbate in the ambient phase with an energy resolution much higher than that which is presently available in electron energy loss spectroscopy and when the surface is in contact with a much larger amount of material than that which can be tolerated in infrared absorption experiments. The ability to perform vibrational spectroscopy under these conditions would lead to a new understanding about the chemical identity, geome try, and bonding of adsorbed material at a level previously unacces sible. It is for these reasons that the last few years have brought an explosion of activity surrounding the exploitation of SERS. The search for the origines) of the anomalous enhancement has given rise to a research sub-activity of its own. Efforts to explain the en hancement have led to an increased understanding of the whole range of phenomena associated with the interaction of photons with adsor bates and metal surfaces.

Book Silver Nanoparticle Monolayers for Plasmonics and Surface enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

Download or read book Silver Nanoparticle Monolayers for Plasmonics and Surface enhanced Raman Spectroscopy written by Rui Xiu He and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silver nanoparticle monolayers are plasmonic surfaces which primarily find use as a highly sensitive substrate for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), and are also found in thin film solar cells. This thesis describes the development of silver nanoparticle monolayers for the trace detection of the dye molecule rhodamine 6G through the SERS effect, and studies the effect of plasmonic manipulation on SERS sensitivity. Plasmonic manipulation of the monolayer is performed by a pre-fabrication scheme and post-fabrication treatment through particle size tuning and thermal treatment respectively. The changes in the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) are correlated with the observed morphological changes, and the resultant SERS sensitivity is evaluated. It is found that increasing particle size up to 65nm increases the signal intensity, despite the lowering of surface density. This is explained by a rapid increase in the SERS enhancement factor (EF), found using finite element modelling of the LSPR. Thermal treatment is found to decrease signal intensity, but provide the benefit of surface cleaning at 400°C. This leads to some signal recovery, but most importantly opens chemical pathways for surface modification. Both methods are shown to have a predictable effect on the LSPR, allowing for optimization of solar cell applications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface Enhanced Vibrational Spectroscopy (SEVS) has reached maturity as an analytical technique, but until now there has been no single work that describes the theory and experiments of SEVS. This book combines the two important techniques of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and surface-enhanced infrared (SEIR) into one text that serves as the definitive resource on SEVS. Discusses both the theory and the applications of SEVS and provides an up-to-date study of the state of the art Offers interpretations of SEVS spectra for practicing analysts Discusses interpretation of SEVS spectra, which can often be very different to the non-enhanced spectrum - aids the practicing analyst

Download or read book Nanoplasmonics written by Grégory Barbillon and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-06-21 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanoplasmonics is a young topic of research, which is part of nanophotonics and nano-optics. Nanoplasmonics concerns to the investigation of electron oscillations in metallic nanostructures and nanoparticles. Surface plasmons have optical properties, which are very interesting. For instance, surface plasmons have the unique capacity to confine light at the nanoscale. Moreover, surface plasmons are very sensitive to the surrounding medium and the properties of the materials on which they propagate. In addition to the above, the surface plasmon resonances can be controlled by adjusting the size, shape, periodicity, and materials' nature. All these optical properties can enable a great number of applications, such as biosensors, optical modulators, photodetectors, and photovoltaic devices. This book is intended for a broad audience and provides an overview of some of the fundamental knowledges and applications of nanoplasmonics.
