Book Semiconductor Devices and Integrated Electronics

Download or read book Semiconductor Devices and Integrated Electronics written by A. G. Milnes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1014 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For some time there has been a need for a semiconductor device book that carries diode and transistor theory beyond an introductory level and yet has space to touch on a wider range of semiconductor device principles and applica tions. Such topics are covered in specialized monographs numbering many hun dreds, but the voluminous nature of this literature limits access for students. This book is the outcome of attempts to develop a broad course on devices and integrated electronics for university students at about senior-year level. The edu cational prerequisites are an introductory course in semiconductor junction and transistor concepts, and a course on analog and digital circuits that has intro duced the concepts of rectification, amplification, oscillators, modulation and logic and SWitching circuits. The book should also be of value to professional engineers and physicists because of both, the information included and the de tailed guide to the literature given by the references. The aim has been to bring some measure of order into the subject area examined and to provide a basic structure from which teachers may develop themes that are of most interest to students and themselves. Semiconductor devices and integrated circuits are reviewed and fundamental factors that control power levels, frequency, speed, size and cost are discussed. The text also briefly mentions how devices are used and presents circuits and comments on representative applications. Thus, the book seeks a balance be tween the extremes of device physics and circuit design.

Book Introduction to Solid State Theory

Download or read book Introduction to Solid State Theory written by Otfried Madelung and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Solid-State Theory is a textbook for graduate students of physics and materials science. It also provides the theoretical background needed by physicists doing research in pure solid-state physics and its applications to electrical engineering. The fundamentals of solid-state theory are based on a description by delocalized and localized states and - within the concept of delocalized states - by elementary excitations. The development of solid-state theory within the last ten years has shown that by a systematic introduction of these concepts, large parts of the theory can be described in a unified way. This form of description gives a "pictorial" formulation of many elementary processes in solids, which facilitates their understanding.

Book Semiconductor Statistics

Download or read book Semiconductor Statistics written by J. S. Blakemore and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semiconductor Statistics presents statistics aimed at complementing existing books on the relationships between carrier densities and transport effects. The book is divided into two parts. Part I provides introductory material on the electron theory of solids, and then discusses carrier statistics for semiconductors in thermal equilibrium. Of course a solid cannot be in true thermodynamic equilibrium if any electrical current is passed; but when currents are reasonably small the distribution function is but little perturbed, and the carrier distribution for such a ""quasi-equilibrium"" condition is inappreciably different from that of thermal equilibrium itself. Thus the results of Part I are not invalidated when the properties of a semiconductor are measured using small current densities. Part II considers non-equilibrium statistics for semiconductors with appreciable excess carrier densities. The various kinds of recombination mechanism are examined, and the consequences discussed for steady state and transient situations. The subject matter of this book was deliberately restricted in scope in order to be of maximum value to scientists with an active interest in the basic properties of semiconducting materials.

Book Surface and Near surface Chemistry of Oxide Materials

Download or read book Surface and Near surface Chemistry of Oxide Materials written by Janusz Nowotny and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1988 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to fill the gap in the scientific literature by providing a comprehensive overview on the surface and near-surface chemistry of oxide materials. Oxide materials are important in a wide range of technological applications, which has resulted in a large bibliography devoted to their properties. The range of practical applications of metal oxides has recently been significantly extended by the discovery of high T c oxide superconductors. Surface chemistry overlaps with several other disciplines and involves some specialized physical methods, therefore renown scientists active in various fields were invited to contribute to the book. The present volume involves surface characterization of metal oxides as well as surface and near-surface phenomena including gas-solid, solid-solid and liquid-solid interphases. Both basic problems and applied aspects are covered. The theoretical background of ideal and real surfaces as well as surface phenomena such as adsorption, segregation, interphase interactions, equilibration, etc., are dealt with. A comprehensive description is given of the most useful experimental techniques for studying surface and near-surface (grain boundary) chemistry of ceramic materials, oxide catalysts, semiconductors and other oxide materials of practical importance. The range of practical applications of metal oxides has recently been significantly extended by the discovery of high T c oxide superconductors. A special chapter is devoted to High T c oxide superconductors, which provides an up-to-date and thorough review of this currently ''hot topic'' which will be of great interest to a wide section of the scientific community.

Download or read book Water written by Sheng Meng and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-19 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the fundamentals for understanding the essential problems and latest progresses in basic water science. Water is the most abundant, fundamental and important matter in nature. Arguably it is also the material that human beings study the most but misunderstand the most. Compared with the environmental science and engineering research activities on water resources, water pollution and water usage closely related to social problems at the macro level, basic scientific research on water at the molecular level has just emerged, the impact of which is not fully recognized yet. This book is devoted to introducing some important advances in the field of basic water science in past decades, with a particular emphasis on recent results on water and the interactions between water and solid surfaces at the molecular level. Starting from introducing concepts and popular theoretical and experimental methods for basic water research, this book mainly focuses on the atomic composition, electronic structure, and physicochemical properties of water molecules, water clusters and water layers (including surface water layers and water surface layers), rules for water adsorption on metals, oxides, and other typical solid surfaces such as salt, as well as the microscopic processes and mechanisms of water diffusion, wetting, decomposition and phase transformations under a variety of conditions. It is a good reference book for students and researchers in water-related science.
