Book Irrigation Potential Analysis Using GIS and Remote Sensing

Download or read book Irrigation Potential Analysis Using GIS and Remote Sensing written by Gashaw Alelign and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's world, as we see the rapid population growth, irrigation agriculture becomes more important to meet the human needs. It allows double cropping and enables stabilization of supply and production of vegetables and fruits. Land and water resource suitability analysis plays an important role in maintaining and developing land and water use on a spatial basis of agriculture. This book identified the evaluation of land suitability for irrigation intensification. The aim of this study was to analyze the water and land resources potential and irrigation water management in river catchments of Andasa watershed for irrigation suitability by using Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing. Identification of potential irrigable land, and socioeconomic factors that influence the use of surface irrigation water management were followed to analyze this irrigation potential. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) evaluation method was used to evaluate the physical land characteristics of the study area for surface irrigation. The factors that were considered for evaluations of the land for surface irrigation include: slope, land use land cover, river distance, soil.

Book Irrigation in Asia in Figures

Download or read book Irrigation in Asia in Figures written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: s publication is the forth of a series of reports prepared within the framework of FAO's AQUASTAT programme, aimed at presenting a comprehensive picture of water resources development and irrigation, with emphasis on developing countries. This volume presents the results of surveys performed in the countries if Asia in 1997 and 1998, relying on country-based statistics. A general summary presents a synopsis on water resources development, irrigation and drainage in the region, and country profiles describe the specific situation of each country.

Book Land Capability Irrigation Potential and Crop Suitability

Download or read book Land Capability Irrigation Potential and Crop Suitability written by Slehak Semeneh and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Land Capability, Irrigation potential and Land suitability analysis is a prerequisite for sustainable agricultural production in the country. Land suitability is the ability of a given type of land to support a defined use while Land capability is the ability of a given natural land to perform as it is. For example the capability of the land may be to be forest area but the land may be suitable for annual crops. Land Capability (Classification), Land suitability analysis for specific crops and suitability analysis for surface irrigation evaluate parameters like slope, soil depth, past erosion, water logging, infiltration, soil texture, soil drainage, land use, soil type, temperature, rainfall and stoniness of the study area. GIS and remote sensing are a tool to evaluate the above parameters by focusing on spatial analysis, characterization and modeling of these geographic and non-geographic parameters. Multicriteria decision-making techniques like ranking, rating etc. are employed for the analysis that includes pair wise combination and weighted linear combination to make the study more realistic.

Book Irrigation and Drainage Engineering

Download or read book Irrigation and Drainage Engineering written by Peter Waller and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-18 with total page 747 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook focuses specifically on the combined topics of irrigation and drainage engineering. It emphasizes both basic concepts and practical applications of the latest technologies available. The design of irrigation, pumping, and drainage systems using Excel and Visual Basic for Applications programs are explained for both graduate and undergraduate students and practicing engineers. The book emphasizes environmental protection, economics, and engineering design processes. It includes detailed chapters on irrigation economics, soils, reference evapotranspiration, crop evapotranspiration, pipe flow, pumps, open-channel flow, groundwater, center pivots, turf and landscape, drip, orchards, wheel lines, hand lines, surfaces, greenhouse hydroponics, soil water movement, drainage systems design, drainage and wetlands contaminant fate and transport. It contains summaries, homework problems, and color photos. The book draws from the fields of fluid mechanics, soil physics, hydrology, soil chemistry, economics, and plant sciences to present a broad interdisciplinary view of the fundamental concepts in irrigation and drainage systems design.
