Book Introduction to Critical Phenomena in Fluids

Download or read book Introduction to Critical Phenomena in Fluids written by Eldred H. Chimowitz and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2005-06-02 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Critical Phenomena in Fluids encompasses the fundamentals of this relatively young field, as well as applications in the fields of chemical engineering, analytical chemistry, and environmental remediation processing. The exercises in the text have been developed in a way that makes the book suitable for graduate courses in chemical engineering thermodynamics and physical chemistry.

Book Critical Phenomena at Surfaces and Interfaces

Download or read book Critical Phenomena at Surfaces and Interfaces written by Helmut Dosch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the application of grazing angle x-ray and neutron scattering to the study of surface-induced critical phenomena. With the advent of even more advanced synchrotron radiation sources and new sophisticated instrumentation this novel technique is expected to experience a boom. The comprehensive and detailed presentation of theoretical and experimental aspects of the scattering of evanascent x-ray and neutron waves inside a solid makes this book particularly useful for tutorial courses. Particular emphasis is put on the use of this technique to extract microscopic information (correlation functions) from the real structure of a surface, from buried and magnetic interfaces and from surface roughness.

Book The Casimir Effect In Critical Systems

Download or read book The Casimir Effect In Critical Systems written by Michael Krech and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-07-26 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The well-known Casimir effect has a direct analogue in systems near critical or multicritical points. Critical fluctuations in systems confined to finite geometries lead to attractive or repulsive forces between system boundaries. These forces influence the formation of wetting layers of liquid 4He or binary liquid mixtures near critical points in these fluids. With the aid of recently developed versions of the atomic force microscope, these forces appear to be directly measurable. The book contains an introduction to the physics of critical phenomena and reviews the most recent developments in the theory of finite-size scaling. A detailed discussion of the Casimir effect and related questions follows. The analysis of quantitative effects on the specific heat of critical films, the formation of wetting layers, and force measurements finish the presentation. This is perhaps the first book on the critical Casimir effect.
