I realized a shocking truth about myself, and it shook me to the core of my humanity, the night he came for me. This dark and delectable stranger, Rogue Soule, had an alluring pull, a hold over me that I couldn’t explain, or resist. Each had an unfamiliar face and they called me Aurora Snow. Download or read book Surf Hoars written by Willow Fae von Wicken and published by Dymond Publishing. This book was released on 2020-03-25 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a rogue wave washes the houseboat you’re dancing on, out to sea, you and your beach party guests expect the worst. Harmony Stelfox was recovering from a bewildering near death experience. She was nearly killed by a rogue shark, and thought days like these were behind her. How many unforeseen disasters can a girl expect during the run of one week? They were adrift. The sun was blazing hot on their skin, they ran low on food. But they did have plenty of beer. There was one thing more. They were not alone at sea. There was a lonesome creature who watched from a distance. He never slept. He didn’t falter in his watch. And he didn’t offer them help. His stare was filled with furry and hesitation. He called to Harmony, and she swam to him, and he hadn't felt warmth, or love. Harmony thought he was a dream, for a merman couldn't be real. He briefly paused and his eyes met Harmony's. She was the native-lander he rescued from a shark attack. He had no regrets, but if she realized he is the one who rescued her during her robotic mermaid launch, it would mean death to them all. Saving a native-lander would be seen as an act of aggression against his own kind, of the Merworld. His sense of honor cringed. His loyalty would be questioned. Saving her pleased him, and yet he felt torn. His presence only prolonged the inevitable. The creatures were coming. And they would drag them down into the depths, of the Abyss. Ghastly sea creatures boarded the ship, and the war was on.

Book excerpt: Discover how the barrier built by porn addiction can become a bridge to abundant life. Using personal examples, scriptural illustrations, and 20 years of counseling experience, Cusick will help you understand how to break free from the prison of sexual addiction. What if lust for porn is really a search for true passion? In a world where there are 68 million searches for pornography every day and where over 70 percent of Christian men report viewing porn in the last year, it's no surprise that more and more men struggle with an addiction to this false fantasy. Common wisdom says if they just had more willpower or more faith, their fight would be over. But is the answer really that simple? According to counselor and ministry leader Michael John Cusick, the answer is no—but the big truth may be much more freeing. Backed by scripture, Cusick uses examples from his own life and from his twenty years of counseling experience to show us how the pursuit of empty pleasure is really a search for our heart's deepest desire—and the real key to resistance is discovering and embracing the joy we truly want. Cusick discusses the origins of sexual addiction, the need for affirmation, and the heart that aches for God while falling into relapse. Handling a difficult topic with grace, mercy and honesty, Cusick's insights will help you understand: How porn struggles begin What to do to prevent those struggles How to overcome compulsions once they begin An essential resource centered on the sustaining love of Christ, this book will help guide anyone battling sex addiction or those in ministry seeking to provide encouragement to those struggling.

Book Channel Surfing the Bible

  • Pages : 268 pages

Download or read book Channel Surfing the Bible written by Rev. Thomas O’Donnell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-08-12 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two thousand years ago, a simple man walked this planet with a simple message. They called him Jesus. His was a message of radical exclusion in a world he called the Kingdom of God. He spoke in parables grounded in common, everyday experiences, parables about yeast and leavened bread, weeds and mustard seeds, fishing nets and pearls. In the Kingdom of God, everyone was equal and differences made no difference. But the world couldnt handle such an outrageous message. Whoever heard of a world where differences make no difference? Of course, they make a difference. So they dangled him from a cross for all the world to take note. After his death, they honored him with a title, the Christ, and began a whole new religion in his name. But for two thousand years far too many have been dishonoring him by misrepresenting his message. His message of radical inclusion has been twisted and contorted into a message that far too many of his followers use to sanction that which he came to overcome. Instead of eliminating distinctions between insiders and outsiders, pure and impure, clean and unclean, his message has been used to perpetuate sexism, racism, age-ism, homophobism, imperialism, and all the other -isms that stand in the way of radical inclusion. All this has happened so gradually, literally over centuries if not millennia through crusty old doctrines, dogma, and creeds that very few have even noticed. Christianity has become fat and happy, just like the frog in the Parable of the Boiling Frog. You stick a frog in a vat of boiling water, and it will struggle with all its might to escape an otherwise certain death. But if you stick a frog in a vat of lukewarm water and ever so gradually keep warming it one degree at a time, the frog will grow comfortable in the increasing warmth of its environment until, before he realizes it, he has been boiled. Two thousand years later, it is time to set the record straight; time to return to Jesus simple message through the common, ordinary experiences of today. In the biblical witness, Moses wandered in the wilderness for forty years; Jesus, for forty days. So, too, shall we wander by channel surfing through forty chapters of scripture. From Adam and Eve to Ricky Nelsons Garden Party at Madison Square Garden; from the Book of Jobs Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar to The Three Stooges; from Matthews and Lukes nativity scenes to Larry, Darryl, and Darryl of The Bob Newhart Show; from the temptation stories and Jesus wandering in the wilderness to American Bandstand, the Temptations, and Dion & the Belmonts The Wanderer; from Pilate and Herod cross-examining Jesus to Judge Wapner and Judge Judy; from atonement theology to Lets Make a Deal, it is time to paint our antiquated parables with a more contemporary brush; in so doing, it is time to turn Jesus simple message into a profound reality. Onward, radical inclusion! On to the Kingdom of God. In the immortal words of Bart Simpson, Surfs up, dude.

Book The Critical Surf Studies Reader

Download or read book The Critical Surf Studies Reader written by Dexter Zavalza Hough-Snee and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2017-08-17 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolution of surfing—from the first forms of wave-riding in Oceania, Africa, and the Americas to the inauguration of surfing as a competitive sport at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics—traverses the age of empire, the rise of globalization, and the onset of the digital age, taking on new meanings at each juncture. As corporations have sought to promote surfing as a lifestyle and leisure enterprise, the sport has also narrated its own epic myths that place North America at the center of surf culture and relegate Hawai‘i and other indigenous surfing cultures to the margins. The Critical Surf Studies Reader brings together eighteen interdisciplinary essays that explore surfing's history and development as a practice embedded in complex and sometimes oppositional social, political, economic, and cultural relations. Refocusing the history and culture of surfing, this volume pays particular attention to reclaiming the roles that women, indigenous peoples, and people of color have played in surfing. Contributors. Douglas Booth, Peter Brosius, Robin Canniford, Krista Comer, Kevin Dawson, Clifton Evers, Chris Gibson, Dina Gilio-Whitaker, Dexter Zavalza Hough-Snee, Scott Laderman, Kristin Lawler, lisahunter, Colleen McGloin, Patrick Moser, Tara Ruttenberg, Cori Schumacher, Alexander Sotelo Eastman, Glen Thompson, Isaiah Helekunihi Walker, Andrew Warren, Belinda Wheaton

But he thought, this beautiful maid had struck something within him, and he risked it all, to save my life. He laid me to rest on the deck, and dove into the sea before I awoke. Shortly after, on Hellhound Island, me and a group of bachelor party guests were sucked into a Rogue Wave. He followed us, my rescuer, but the current was strong, and he lost sight of us. After a treacherous night of terror, we were becalmed. Dead calm on a dark sea, and realized it was the Devil's Triangle. With no wind in our sails, the equipment dead, we were adrift in a thick blanket of fog. With no hope of safely going home, again.

However, in departing at the American apex, not only left behind were co-collaborators, co-workers and friends unaware of his secret political activities, he betrayed and deserted some of them. We were hiding behind a Big Smokescreen as well, he feared. It may take more than one mea culpa dance to rake over the past, but does it matter the source of true inspiration and determination? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Channel Surfing in the Sea of Happiness is an iconoclastic romp through the end of the twentieth century. The misfit characters in this funny and poignant collection of stories find themselves adrift in an increasingly absurdist world — a world they must reinvent for themselves in order to find hope. How much of our identity is forged by direct experience, and how much is shaped by our constant exposure to a barrage of images and ideas imposed on us from elsewhere? From a story about a precocious teenage boy coming out in high school in the 1970s, to a series of tales about two queer con artists and their ridiculous get-rich-quick schemes, to a yarn about a famous transgender sex worker’s efforts to rally her community against redneck homophobes, to an account of a lesbian puppeteer’s AIDS activism in the 1980s, to a story about a sister coming to terms with her brother’s death from AIDS, the collection explores how the human heart stays afloat in a society entertaining, informing, and networking itself to death.
