Book Racing Chassis and Suspension Design

Download or read book Racing Chassis and Suspension Design written by Carroll Smith and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2004-05-21 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hand-selected by racing engineer legend Carroll Smith, the 28 SAE Technical Papers in this book focus on the chassis and suspension design of pure racing cars, an area that has traditionally been - farmed out - to independent designers or firms since the early 1970s. Smith believed that any discussion of vehicle dynamics must begin with a basic understanding of the pneumatic tire, the focus of the first chapter. The racing tire connects the racing car to the track surface by only the footprints of its four tires. Through the tires, the driver receives most of the sensory information needed to maintain or regain control of the race car at high force levels. The second chapter, focusing on suspension design, is an introduction to this complex and fascinating subject. Topics covered include chassis stiffness and flexibility, suspension tuning on the cornering of a Winston Cup race car, suspension kinematics, and vehicle dynamics of road racing cars. Chapter 3 addresses the design of the racing chassis design and how aerodynamics affect the chassis, and the final chapter on materials brings out the fact that the modern racing car utilizes carbon construction to the maximum extent allowed by regulations. These technical papers, written between 1971 and 2003, offer what Smith believed to be the best and most practical nuggets of racing chassis and suspension design information.

Book Semi active Suspension Control

Download or read book Semi active Suspension Control written by Emanuele Guglielmino and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-05-27 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semi-active Suspension Control provides an overview of vehicle ride control employing smart semi-active damping systems. These systems are able to tune the amount of damping in response to measured vehicle-ride and handling indicators. Two physically different dampers (magnetorheological and controlled-friction) are analysed from the perspectives of mechatronics and control. Ride comfort, road holding, road damage and human-body modelling are studied. Mathematical modelling is balanced by a large and detailed section on experimental implementation, where a variety of automotive applications are described offering a well-rounded view. The implementation of control algorithms with regard to real-life engineering constraints is emphasised. The applications described include semi-active suspensions for a saloon car, seat suspensions for vehicles not equipped with a primary suspension, and control of heavy-vehicle dynamic-tyre loads to reduce road damage and improve handling.

Book Advanced Seat Suspension Control System Design for Heavy Duty Vehicles

Download or read book Advanced Seat Suspension Control System Design for Heavy Duty Vehicles written by Haiping Du and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2020-05-23 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Seat Suspension Control System Design for Heavy Duty Vehicles provides systematic knowledge of the advanced seat suspension design and control for heavy duty vehicles. Nowadays, people are paying more and more attention to ride comfort and the health of drivers and passengers. This is especially for heavy duty vehicles, where drivers/operators are exposed to much severer vibrations than those in passenger vehicles due to a harsh working environment, operating conditions, and long hour driving, etc. Seat suspension systems can effectively help to suppress the high magnitude vibration transmitted to drivers with relatively simple structure and low cost, and hence are widely adopted in heavy duty vehicles. This book helps researchers and engineers to have a comprehensive understanding of the seat suspension system and to conduct in-depth studies on seat suspension design and control; this book covers a wide range of perspectives about seat suspension design and control methods.

Book In service Assessment of Road friendly Suspensions

Download or read book In service Assessment of Road friendly Suspensions written by Roaduser International and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of this study, involving a limited sample of vehicles from medium to large fleets, indicate that inservice non-road-friendliness of air-suspended triaxle groups is a manageable issue once the OE-type approval test is in place. The effects of suspension, and particularly shock absorber wear in eroding the benefits of road-friendliness are incremental rather than dramatic. The emphasis in controlling road-friendliness in-service could therefore lie in the introduction of auditable suspension maintenance regimes utilising the following activities at prescribed intervals: shock absorber removal and inspection for defects, dynamometer testing and shock absorber replacement.
