Book excerpt: The only book out that details the life and times of Florence Ballard after Motown, through her daughter Nicole's eyes. This book addresses some of the rumors spread about Florence's life. This book also answers some of the questions and concerns that Florence's fans commented on different blog and social media sites, including affiliations from the United Kingdom. Florence Ballard Chapman was more than just a Motown singing artist. Florence was a mother of three daughters and a wife with feelings and emotions just like everyone else. Florence was not stardom struck. She was happy at home with her family. Florence's daughter Nicole, shared her life with her mom, for Uno 220 to share with you. Nicole also shared the joy and pain that she endured in her life growing up. She shares how losing her mother, her grandmother, whose funeral was on Nicole's birthday and her father dying one day before Mother's Day; affected her and shaped who she is today. Nicole experienced some of the same trauma her mother Florence experienced. Her story is as heart clinching as her mother's. Nicole is a pure sweetheart who deserves more. This book is a good read and collectors item for sure.

Book Search and Destroy

Download or read book Search and Destroy written by Ryan Lovelace and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “You have replaced ‘advice and consent’ with ‘search and destroy.’” —BRETT KAVANAUGH In this deeply researched account, one of Washington’s top legal reporters reveals the massive funding, sophisticated organization, and fanatical zeal behind the campaign to stop Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the nation’s highest court. Trump had promised to nominate only Scalia-style “originalists” to the Court—a promise he backed up with a list of potential nominees. The left took him at his word, setting up a titanic political clash when Justice Anthony Kennedy—the decisive vote on abortion—announced his retirement in June 2018. The nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh—until that moment universally respected—sent Democratic senators racing to the cameras to announce their opposition, while an armada of activist groups, fueled by “dark money,” launched a coordinated public relations assault of unprecedented scope and fury. Kavanaugh was nevertheless on the brink of confirmation when the Democrats, in desperation, disclosed an allegation of teenaged sexual assault against the stunned nominee, turning Christine Blasey Ford into a #MeToo icon. Ryan Lovelace reports how Kavanaugh’s opponents, unable to produce a shred of corroboration, resorted to the court of public opinion, where the rules of evidence and standards of fairness favor the prosecution. Under the skillful direction of a Clinton henchman and a savvy lawyer, they conducted a show trial in which the compliant media arrived at the desired verdict. Kavanaugh owed his eventual confirmation to the pro-choice Republican senator Susan Collins, whose vote reflected her steel spine and commitment to fairness—“the allegations fail to meet the more-likely-than- not standard”—as well as her conclusion that Roe v. Wade was safe with him on the Court. Lovelace concludes with a thought-provoking assessment of the unexpected consequences of the Kavanaugh controversy and of the cost to the judicial system of a search-and-destroy confirmation process.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of notion, roots und measures of treaty abuse The OECD initiative on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting has put the issue of treaty abuse and the means to counter it on top of the global political agenda. Preventing treaty abuse is therefore currently one of the most debated topics in international tax law. Diverging national legal traditions in combatting abuse both under domestic and tax treaty law have led to a globally diversified legal framework in this respect and make the OECD’s agenda to harmonize these attempts even more challenging. The aim of this book is to analyze the notion of treaty abuse, its historical roots and the measures to counter it. The book’s topics cover a wide range of both policy and legal issues. The contributions’ main focus lies onanalyzing the proposals put forward by the OECD in BEPS action items 6 and 7. In addition, this book analyzes the lessons which can be learnt from the US tax treaty policy and elaborates on the effects the intensified fight against treaty abuse will have from a Non-OECD member state perspective. Also EU law is taken into account and the question raised which impact the fundamental freedoms might have on the development of new anti-avoidance rules. Finally the relation between domestic and treaty based anti-avoidance is analyzed in great detail, identifying the methodical problems of ensuring a sound and abuse safe legal framework. With this book, the authors and editors hope to contribute to the discussion on selected issues of preventing treaty abuse and the challenges they present to policy makers, judges, tax administrations and tax advisers.
