Book Supramolecular Enzyme Organization

Download or read book Supramolecular Enzyme Organization written by Peter Friedrich and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supramolecular Enzyme Organization: Quaternary Structure and Beyond provides a comprehensive discussion of enzyme interactions. It attempts to place conceptually related phenomena in a common perspective by first scrutinizing enzyme interactions at the quaternary level and then moving on towards higher orders of organization. The book begins with a discussion of the hierarchy of enzymes, covering the structure of monomeric enzymes, enzyme structures beyond the monomeric stage, and protein-protein interactions. Separate chapters cover the chemistry of protein associations; the quaternary structure of enzymes; multienzyme systems; multienzyme complexes and conjugates; the association of enzymes with cellular structures; and metabolite compartmentation. The final chapters discuss trends in the study of enzyme systems and the dialectics of enzymology. This book is intended, not for the specialist, who knows much more about the individual questions than the text offers, but rather for the general biochemical reader interested in enzyme organization. There is practically no mathematics involved. Instead, quite elementary things are described, so that students and biologists with less background knowledge on enzymes will be able to join in.

Book Organized Multienzyme Systems Catalytic Properties

Download or read book Organized Multienzyme Systems Catalytic Properties written by G. Rickey Welch and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organized Multienzyme Systems: Catalytic Properties describes the kinetic and catalytic properties of organized enzyme systems. This book is composed of nine chapters that specifically cover both immobilized and naturally occurring systems. The first two chapters examine the nature and function of enzyme organization in the mitochondrion, as well as the structural/functional coupling of the components in energy-transducing membrane systems. These topics are followed by discussions on ""dynamic compartmentation"" in soluble multienzyme systems; the allosteric enzyme systems; and allosterism in reversibly adsorptive enzyme systems. Other chapters explore model studies with specific immobilized multienzyme sequences, as regards the analysis of microenvironmental effects, and the mathematical exposition on the kinetic analysis of multienzyme systems in homogeneous solution. The last chapters present some theoretical and experimental studies on the behavior of immobilized systems. These chapters also provide a speculative integrative view of the kind of functional coherence that may be operative in organized states in vivo. This book is of great value to cell biologists, biochemists, and enzyme scientists and researchers.

Book Supramolecular Structure and Function

Download or read book Supramolecular Structure and Function written by Greta Pifat-Mrzljak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade we have witnessed not only an increase in knowledge of the "traditional" biophysical problems, but also an understanding of the molecular basis of various biological phenomena. The principles and methods of biophysics now provide an underpin ning of all of the basic biosciences and are the rational language for discussion between scientists of different disciplines. The International School on Biophysics Supramolecular Structure and Function held in Dubrovnik in September 1984 had as its goal to provide comprehensive discussions on a large number of subjects both for younger scientists at the doctoral or postdoctoral level interested in the molecular nature of fundamental biological entities, and for experienced scientists wishing to gain a broader insight into molecular structures and functions. The topics discussed at the School were inter- and intramolecular interactions in biological systems, and the structure, organization, and function of biological macromolecules and supramolecular assemblies. A number of topics were centered around either a biological problem or a physical technique, sometimes giving an unbalanced view of the field under discussion. Some of the topics required previous knowledge of basic biophysical principles, which were then applied to gain greater insight into the molecular functions of diverse supramolecular systems. Although not all the lectures could be prepared for publication in this volume, I hope that it contains valuable up-to-date information on various aspects of the molecular basis of life.

Book Engineering Synthetic Metabolons From Metabolic Modelling to Rational Design of Biosynthetic Devices

Download or read book Engineering Synthetic Metabolons From Metabolic Modelling to Rational Design of Biosynthetic Devices written by Lars M. Voll and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2016-07-19 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discipline of Synthetic Biology has recently emerged at the interface of biology and engineering. The definition of Synthetic Biology has been dynamic over time ever since, which exemplifies that the field is rapidly moving and comprises a broad range of research areas. In the frame of this Research Topic, we focus on Synthetic Biology approaches that aim at rearranging biological parts/ entities in order to generate novel biochemical functions with inherent metabolic activity. This Research Topic encompasses Pathway Engineering in living systems as well as the in vitro assembly of biomolecules into nano- and microscale bioreactors. Both, the engineering of metabolic pathways in vivo, as well as the conceptualization of bioreactors in vitro, require rational design of assembled synthetic pathways and depend on careful selection of individual biological functions and their optimization. Mathematical modelling has proven to be a powerful tool in predicting metabolic flux in living and artificial systems, although modelling approaches have to cope with a limitation in experimentally verified, reliable input variables. This Research Topic puts special emphasis on the vital role of modelling approaches for Synthetic Biology, i.e. the predictive power of mathematical simulations for (i) the manipulation of existing pathways and (ii) the establishment of novel pathways in vivo as well as (iii) the translation of model predictions into the design of synthetic assemblies.

Download or read book Plant Cell Biology written by Randy O. Wayne and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2009-09-15 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant Cell Biology is a semester long course for undergraduates and graduate students which integrates mathematics and physics, two years of chemistry, genetics, biochemistry and evolution disciplines. Having taught this course for over ten years, the author uses his expertise to relate the background established in plant anatomy, plant physiology, plant growth and development, plant taxonomy, plant biochemistry, and plant molecular biology courses to plant cell biology. This integration attempts to break down the barrier so plant cell biology is seen as an entrée into higher science. Distinguishing this book from papers that are often used for teaching the subject which use a single plant to demonstrate the techniques of molecular biology, this book covers all aspects of plant cell biology without emphasizing any one plant, organelle, molecule, or technique. Although most examples are biased towards plants, basic similarities between all living eukaryotic cells (animal and plant) are recognized and used to best illustrate for students cell processes. Thoroughly explains the physiological underpinnings of biological processes to bring original insight related to plants Includes examples throughout from physics, chemistry, geology, and biology to bring understanding to plant cell development, growth, chemistry and diseases Provides the essential tools for students to be able to evaluate and assess the mechanisms involved in cell growth, chromosome motion, membrane trafficking, and energy exchange Companion Web site provides support for all plant cell biology courses

Book Handbook of Photosynthesis

Download or read book Handbook of Photosynthesis written by Mohammad Pessarakli and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-03-29 with total page 954 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quite naturally, photosynthesis has achieved massive amounts of attention in recent years. Aside from being the most spectacular physiological process in plant growth, it is actually the key to our dealing with the potentially cataclysmic accumulation of carbon dioxide in the earth’s atmosphere. Unfortunately, while information is plentiful, all this attention has resulted in a scattered database on photosynthesis, with no contemporary starting point...at least until now. With the second edition of the Handbook of Photosynthesis, Mohammad Pessarakli once again fills the need for an authoritative and balanced resource by assembling a team of experts from across the globe. Together, they have created a comprehensive reference that in a single volume includes important background information, as well as the most recent research findings on photosynthesis. Completely Revised with Several New Chapters The handbook, a completely updated reworking of the critically acclaimed first edition, details all of the photosynthetic factors and processes under both normal and stressful conditions, covering lower and higher plants as well as related biochemistry and plant molecular biology. Divided into fourteen sections for ease of reference, with nearly 8000 bibliographic citations, the handbook contains authoritative contributions from over 80 scientists. It includes approximately 500 drawings, photographs, tables, and equations— all designed to reinforce and clarify important text material.
