Book Suppression of Harmonic Torque and Harmonic Current in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

Download or read book Suppression of Harmonic Torque and Harmonic Current in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor written by Nezar Y. Abou Qamar and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this dissertation harmonic current, harmonic torque originated at the load and harmonic torque originated at the motor, where modeled and treated via closed loop control. The dissertation propose a remedy for canceling harmonic current by placing the proposed adaptive feedforward controller (AFC) in parallel with the FOC current control. Similarly, harmonic torque load was canceled by proposing an AFC in parallel with the speed control loop. Harmonic torque originated in the motor mainly due to harmonic flux where canceled through the estimation of harmonic flux, which was achieved by a novel Minimal Parameter Harmonic Flux Estimator (MPHFE). The latter is formulated such that the inductance, resistance, and stator current and its derivative are not necessary for the estimation of the harmonic eflux. This was achieved by forcing the harmonic current induced by the harmonic flux component to zero through the combined action of a Field-Oriented Controller (FOC) and a feed-forward controller. Subsequently, the harmonic flux can be obtained directly from the estimated harmonic back-EMF without the involvement of other motor parameters. Finally, the estimated flux is used in conjunction with a comprehensive analysis of the motor harmonic torque to determine the stator current compensation to eliminate the torque harmonic. A systematic approach to assign the parameter of the AFC controller were developed in this dissertation. Furthermore, multiple experiments were conducted to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed control schemes harmonics.

Book SAE 2004 08 0358 A current control scheme for harmonic suppression in permanent magnet synchronous motor for hybrid electric vehicles

Download or read book SAE 2004 08 0358 A current control scheme for harmonic suppression in permanent magnet synchronous motor for hybrid electric vehicles written by Gu Bae Kang (et al) and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motors for the hybrid electric vehicle choose the concentrated winding method for high power density, which results in harmonic component in back emf (electromagnetic motive force) voltage. Such harmonic components and coupling voltage at high-speed range generate harmonic components in stator currents. The harmonic components also induce torque ripple and heat loss in stator of a motor. Therefore, the control performance, as well as power, efficiency deteriorate. In this paper, the harmonic suppression method is proposed to improve the control performance. The control scheme is constructed in parallel with the conventional current controller. Roughly speaking, the harmonic components are separated by the software digital filter and suppressed by the proposed harmonic current suppression scheme with zero harmonic command.

Book Optimization of multiphase permanent magnet synchronous machines on system level with reduced losses

Download or read book Optimization of multiphase permanent magnet synchronous machines on system level with reduced losses written by Dhamodaran. Nidhesh and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The requirements of an electrical machine (EM) in Electric- (EV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) are high power density, a stator and rotor field with low harmonic content and best acoustic behavior. Six-phase permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) have significant benefits over conventional three-phase PMSMs, such as reduced current per inverter phase leg, less fundamental losses because of a better winding factor and increased fault tolerance. Despite their advantages, considering the same installation space, the torque per ampere increase of a six-phase PMSM is very marginal. Therefore, the main focus of this dissertation lies in increasing the power density of the multiphase electric drive, where optimizations and investigations are done on a system level. System level simulation models, which consist of the power electronics, different control strategies and the electrical machines are developed and studied. Considering the electrical and mechanical phase shift between the two three-phase winding sets, different winding concepts of the sixphase EM are developed, in an effort to gain a better understanding of their advantages and disadvantages. Detailed analyses are performed, in order to understand the sources and influences of the space harmonics and high frequency inverter-induced time harmonics on the losses and performance of the EM. In particular, this dissertation will examine the EM torque, iron losses, magnet losses and copper losses for both inverter switched currents and sinusoidal currents supply.

Book Third Harmonic Utilization in Permanent Magnet Machines

Download or read book Third Harmonic Utilization in Permanent Magnet Machines written by Kai Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the utilization of harmonics in the permanent magnet (PM) or rotor shape to improve the torque density of PM brushless AC machines including three-phase inner rotor and outer rotor machines, five-phase machines, dual three-phase machines, linear machines, by means of analytical, finite element analyses, and as well as experimental validation. The torque density can be improved while the torque ripple remains low in PM shaping utilizing the 3rd harmonic. In this book, the analytical expression of output torque is derived for PM machines with rotor shape using the 3rd harmonic, and then the optimal 3rd harmonic for maximizing torque is analytically obtained. The book compares the PM shape in surface-mounted PM (SPM) machines and the rotor lamination shape in interior PM (IPM) machines utilizing the 3rd harmonic, and it becomes clear that their shaping methods and amount of torque improvement are different. In a five-phase PM machine, the 3rd harmonic can be utilized in both the current waveform and PM shapes to further improve the output torque. For the dual three-phase SPM machines without deteriorating the torque more than 30% when the optimal 3rd harmonic into both the current and PM shape are injected. The harmonics in airgap flux density have significant influence on the cogging torque, stator iron flux distribution, and radial force between the rotor and stator. These effects has been investigated as well in this book.

Book Minimization of Torque Ripple in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors Through Direct Torque Control

Download or read book Minimization of Torque Ripple in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors Through Direct Torque Control written by Kevin N.L. Heward-Mills and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Permanent Magnet motors are of pertinent use in factory automation, machine tool applications, electric vehicles, robotics applications and many others. Within these industries, the measure of accuracy that is required on a constant basis is stymied by the common obstacle of harmonic ripple in torque, caused by discrepancies in flux within the air-gap of the motors. This ripple reflects in performance of the motor drive and consequently causes a harmonic disturbance in stator current. In order to understand this phenomenon and come about various remedial practices, a detailed study is carried out in this project to investigate the causes of torque ripple in permanent magnet synchronous motor drives, and the methods used in the minimization of this ripple. Minimization of these ripples in torque would prove essential to save erroneous manufacturing deviations that they characterize in the above-mentioned industry applications. It would also help in saving industrial financial resources, increase reliability, as well as save time spent in corrections of these errors. A model is presented in MATLAB/Simulink to implement the Direct Torque approach of ripple minimization.

Book Noise Reduction Control Strategy of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine for Vehicle Applications

Download or read book Noise Reduction Control Strategy of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine for Vehicle Applications written by Randy Gene Doolittle and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this work was to investigate a permanent magnet synchronous machine which will be produced by an industry partner of the Institut für Stromrichtertechnik und Elektrische Antriebe (ISEA) an institute of the Rheinisch Westfälisch Technische Hochschule - Aachen, Germany (RWTH). The machine manufacturer noted certain abnormalities with the frequency spectrum produced by an electric machine that they were developing; this problem was brought to ISEA in order to be investigated. My work continues the work of my supervisor, Dipl.- Ing Matthias Bösing, and seeks to further examine the machine for a much wider range of operating points, determine the relationship between current amplitude, harmonics, control angle and rotor position on radial force components of the machine and therefore stresses on the stator; which are the primary causes of electrical machine noise. Rather than investigate acoustic issues in particular, the study was limited to the study of electromagnetically generated radial force ripple, which is the cause of stator deflection modes and therefore the emission of sound waves. The primary results of this thesis researched the operation of a permanent magnet synchronous machine and described its behavior with regards to force, torque, and force and torque ripple and their spectrums versus numerous parameters, including control angle, secant current and rotor position. Next, the work used provided data, literature and the simulation results for this thesis in order to deconstruct the operation regions of the particular machine and therefore link the causes of particular noise spectral components to the operation of the machine. From this it was possible to identify potential ways to eliminate these areas of noise. Following this, the thesis examined a particular abnormality in the torque and force waveforms produced by the machine and devised actions which could correct this abnormality. After identifying this asymmetry, the work explored how to choose an optimal control strategy for eliminating particular harmonics based on the simulated operating points and a desired command torque. Finally, the research built on the previous work by supplementing the method of current harmonic injection for eliminating radial force harmonics in this machine, with a method of determining an optimal operating point before the injection currents are calculated.
