This book was released on 2017-05-03 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Søren Bisgaard was an extremely productive and insightful scholar of modern industrial statistics and quality engineering. He was amazing for both his breadth of interests and the depth of his scholarship. Søren was one of the very few people making substantial contributions in so many basic areas in statistics and quality engineering. This compilation collects 31 of his works and is divided into four broad areas: Design and Analysis of ExperimentsTime Series AnalysisThe Quality ProfessionHealthcare Engineering This book provides a comprehensive coverage of essential statistical methods for the 2k-p factorial system and shows the basic principles of time series analysis through examples. Furthermore, this book presents the connection between the application of the scientific method and quality improvement, and it points out the importance of quality improvement to tangible financial results. Finally, this book explains the seemingly paradoxical idea that we can enhance quality while reducing cost of healthcare.

Download or read book Essential Statistical Inference written by Dennis D. Boos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-06 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for students and researchers who have had a first year graduate level mathematical statistics course. It covers classical likelihood, Bayesian, and permutation inference; an introduction to basic asymptotic distribution theory; and modern topics like M-estimation, the jackknife, and the bootstrap. R code is woven throughout the text, and there are a large number of examples and problems. An important goal has been to make the topics accessible to a wide audience, with little overt reliance on measure theory. A typical semester course consists of Chapters 1-6 (likelihood-based estimation and testing, Bayesian inference, basic asymptotic results) plus selections from M-estimation and related testing and resampling methodology. Dennis Boos and Len Stefanski are professors in the Department of Statistics at North Carolina State. Their research has been eclectic, often with a robustness angle, although Stefanski is also known for research concentrated on measurement error, including a co-authored book on non-linear measurement error models. In recent years the authors have jointly worked on variable selection methods.
Download or read book Contributions to Survey Sampling and Applied Statistics written by H. O. Hartley and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributions to Survey Sampling and Applied Statistics: Papers in Honor of H. O. Hartley covers the significant advances in survey sampling, modeling, and applied statistics. This book is organized into five parts encompassing 20 chapters. The opening part looks into some aspects of statistics, sampling, randomization, predictive estimation, and internal congruency. This part also considers the properties of variance estimation for a specified multiple frame survey design and some sampling designs involving unequal probabilities of selection and robust estimation of a finite population total. The next parts present the analysis and the theoretical and practical aspects of linear models, as well as the applications of time series analysis. These topics are followed by discussions of the testing for outliers in linear regression; the robustness of location estimators; and completeness comparisons among sample sequences. The closing part deals with the properties of norm estimators in regression and geometric programming. This part also provides tables of the normal conditioned on t-distribution. This book will prove useful to mathematicians and statisticians.

Balakrishnan and Normal L. Johnson Discover the latest advances in discrete distributions theory The Third Edition of the critically acclaimed Univariate Discrete Distributions provides a self-contained, systematic treatment of the theory, derivation, and application of probability distributions for count data. Generalized zeta-function and q-series distributions have been added and are covered in detail. New families of distributions, including Lagrangian-type distributions, are integrated into this thoroughly revised and updated text. Additional applications of univariate discrete distributions are explored to demonstrate the flexibility of this powerful method. A thorough survey of recent statistical literature draws attention to many new distributions and results for the classical distributions. Approximately 450 new references along with several new sections are introduced to reflect the current literature and knowledge of discrete distributions. Beginning with mathematical, probability, and statistical fundamentals, the authors provide clear coverage of the key topics in the field, including: Families of discrete distributions Binomial distribution Poisson distribution Negative binomial distribution Hypergeometric distributions Logarithmic and Lagrangian distributions Mixture distributions Stopped-sum distributions Matching, occupancy, runs, and q-series distributions Parametric regression models and miscellanea Emphasis continues to be placed on the increasing relevance of Bayesian inference to discrete distribution, especially with regard to the binomial and Poisson distributions. New derivations of discrete distributions via stochastic processes and random walks are introduced without unnecessarily complex discussions of stochastic processes. Throughout the Third Edition, extensive information has been added to reflect the new role of computer-based applications. With its thorough coverage and balanced presentation of theory and application, this is an excellent and essential reference for statisticians and mathematicians.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These three volumes constitute the edited Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Statistical Distributions in Scientific Work held at the University of Calgary from July 29 to August 10, 1974. The general title of the volumes is "Statistical Distributions in Scientific Work". The individual volumes are: Volume 1 - Models and Structures; Volume 2 - Model Building and Model Selection; and Volume 3 - Characterizations and Applications. These correspond to the three advanced seminars of the Institute devoted to the respective subject areas. The planned activities of the Institute consisted of main lectures and expositions, seminar lectures and study group dis cussions, tutorials and individual study. The activities included meetings of editorial committees to discuss editorial matters for these proceedings which consist of contributions that have gone through the usual refereeing process. A special session was organized to consider the potential of introducing a course on statistical distributions in scientific modeling in the curriculum of statistics and quantitative studies. This session is reported in Volume 2. The overall perspective for the Institute is provided by the Institute Director, Professor G. P. Patil, in his inaugural address which appears in Volume 1. The Linnik Memorial Inaugural Lecture given by Professor C. R. Rao for the Characterizations Seminar is included in Volume 3.

Download or read book Fisher Neyman and the Creation of Classical Statistics written by Erich L. Lehmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-25 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical statistical theory—hypothesis testing, estimation, and the design of experiments and sample surveys—is mainly the creation of two men: Ronald A. Fisher (1890-1962) and Jerzy Neyman (1894-1981). Their contributions sometimes complemented each other, sometimes occurred in parallel, and, particularly at later stages, often were in strong opposition. The two men would not be pleased to see their names linked in this way, since throughout most of their working lives they detested each other. Nevertheless, they worked on the same problems, and through their combined efforts created a new discipline. This new book by E.L. Lehmann, himself a student of Neyman’s, explores the relationship between Neyman and Fisher, as well as their interactions with other influential statisticians, and the statistical history they helped create together. Lehmann uses direct correspondence and original papers to recreate an historical account of the creation of the Neyman-Pearson Theory as well as Fisher’s dissent, and other important statistical theories.

This book was released on 2014-05-08 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a concise introduction to Bartlett and Bartlett-type corrections of statistical tests and bias correction of point estimators. The underlying idea behind both groups of corrections is to obtain higher accuracy in small samples. While the main focus is on corrections that can be analytically derived, the authors also present alternative strategies for improving estimators and tests based on bootstrap, a data resampling technique and discuss concrete applications to several important statistical models.
