Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these..." John 14:12 In John 14:12, Jesus promised that his believers will do the works He did and even greater ones. Through Jesus we have access to the life, power, and gifts of the Holy Spirit which enable us to do what He promised. Throughout our 2,000-year history, God has not stopped raising up holy men and women who have been filled with the Holy Spirit and cultivated lifestyles that demonstrated the supernatural power and love of God to advance the Kingdom of God in their time. As the co-founder and Director of the Encounter School of Ministry, author Patrick Reis will unpack ministry lessons from six incredible saints who walked in the life and gifts of the Holy Spirit. In Supernatural Saints, you will sit at the feet of these heroes of our faith and learn directly from their supernatural ministry. In this book, you will learn: Signs, wonders, miracles, and healings have always been present through the history of the Church About the intimate encounters with God which led these saints to walk in the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit Insights into the practical ways each saint partnered with the Holy Spirit in prophecy, deliverance and healing Clarity in teaching surrounding topics like resting in the Spirit, impartation, command prayers for healing, and lay involvement in deliverance ministry The role of angels in ministry and how you can experience greater participation with them in your ministry The lives and lessons of these saints offer us a "school of ministry" straight from the heart of the Church. Endorsements: Bishop David O'Connell, Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles "The saints are often seen as our heroes of faith. But the stories of their lives and supernatural ministries have sometimes seemed like folk lore, and beyond the experience of us everyday believers. Patrick closes the gap between their ministry and our experience, helps us to understand their spiritual practices, and encourages us that we too can be powerful instruments of Jesus in the world. God always raises up saints to shine like lights in the world in critical moments of history. May this book equip and activate you to be a source of hope in this suffering world." Dr. Mary Healy, S.T.D., Professor of Scripture at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, bestselling author, and international speaker "I thought I knew these saints, but Patrick Reis draws out lessons from their lives that are new, amazing, eye-opening, practical, and exactly what is needed for the Church's mission today. I find myself deeply challenged and inspired by this book." Peter Herbeck, Vice President, Renewal Ministries "Patrick Reis has written an important and timely book by giving us a rare look into the ministry habits and strategies of six of our most beloved saints. Supernatural Saints makes a genuine contribution to "equipping the saints for ministry" in our day by harvesting important ministry lessons from these saints who not only model for us the life of holiness and heroic virtue, but also teach us how to walk in the supernatural." Fr. Boniface Hicks OSB, Author and Director of Spiritual Formation, Saint Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, PA "Patrick Reis has provided a treasure for us. On the one hand he brings down some of the most fantastical saints and saint stories and helps us understand them and how they could have taken place earlier today. On the other hand, he raises up our hearts and minds and helps us imagine how we could be more like them. This book is inspiring, practical, accessible, and enjoyable. It will make you want to be more like the saints and give you practical steps for growth in that direction.

Book How the Saints Shaped History

Download or read book How the Saints Shaped History written by Randall Petrides and published by Our Sunday Visitor. This book was released on 2023-04-28 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In every era of the Catholic Church, holy men and women have shaped history through their gifts and talents and, most importantly, through their resolute commitment to Jesus Christ. Some led armies, some founded monasteries, some lived a radical call to charity - and each one had a unique part to play. How the Saints Shaped History focuses on the essential role of the saints, as vessels of God's grace, in moving the Church (and the world!) through her two-thousand-year history. Written especially for everyday Catholics hungry to learn more about the Faith, this book is both comprehensive and accessible. It tells the story of how more than 180 saints, from Saint Mary Magdalene to Pope Saint John Paul II, led the Church through many crises and back to her spiritual roots. As our Church continues to face crises, this book reminds us that we still have reason to hope in our own time. As the providential hand of God worked through the saints to shape history, each of us is called to become a new saint to shape the history of the Church today.

Book excerpt: After a week of hearing ghostly noises, a man is visited in his home by the spirit of his mother, dead for three decades. She reproaches him for his dissolute life and begs him to have Masses said in her name. Then she lays her hand on his sleeve, leaving an indelible burn mark, and departs... A Lutheran minister, no believer in Purgatory, is the puzzled recipient of repeated visitations from "demons" who come to him seeking prayer, consolation, and refuge in his little German church. But pity for the poor spirits overcomes the man's skepticism, and he marvels at what kind of departed souls could belong to Christ and yet suffer still... Hungry Souls recounts these stories and many others trustworthy, Church-verified accounts of earthly visitations from the dead in Purgatory. Accompanying these accounts are images from the "Museum of Purgatory" in Rome, which contains relics of encounters with the Holy Souls, including numerous evidences of hand prints burned into clothing and books; burn marks that cannot be explained by natural means or duplicated by artificial ones. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The book is written with two goals in mind. The first is to give film viewers some background and context for evaluating what they see on screen, By and large. Hollywood is not conversant with theological issues; occasionally, movies reveal an appalling ignorance about religion. More often, however, the approach movies take is simply flat-footed and unsophisticated. Giving readers the tools they need to interpret and critique cinematic portrayals of sanctity is one goal of this book.".

Book Ruthless Gods

Download or read book Ruthless Gods written by Emily A. Duncan and published by Wednesday Books. This book was released on 2020-04-07 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stunning sequel to instant New York Times bestseller, Wicked Saints Nadya doesn’t trust her magic anymore. Serefin is fighting off a voice in his head that doesn’t belong to him. Malachiasz is at war with who--and what--he’s become. As their group is continually torn apart, the girl, the prince, and the monster find their fates irrevocably intertwined. Their paths are being orchestrated by someone...or something. The voices that Serefin hears in the darkness, the ones that Nadya believes are her gods, the ones that Malachiasz is desperate to meet—those voices want a stake in the world, and they refuse to stay quiet any longer. In their dramatic follow-up to Wicked Saints, the first book in their Something Dark and Holy trilogy, Emily A. Duncan paints a Gothic, icy world where shadows whisper, and no one is who they seem, with a shocking ending that will leave you breathless. This edition uses deckle edges; the uneven paper edge is intentional.

Book Medical Saints

Download or read book Medical Saints written by Jacalyn Duffin and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2013-06-13 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an exploration of illness and healing experiences in contemporary society through the veneration of saints: primarily the twin doctors Saints Cosmas and Damian. It also follows the author's personal journey from her role as a hematologist who inadvertently served as an expert witness in a miracle to her research as a historian on the origins, meaning and functions of saints. Sources include interviews with devotees in both North America and Europe. Cosmas and Damian were martyred around the year 300 A.D. in what is now Syria. Called the "Anargyroi" (without silver) because they charged no fees, they became patrons of medicine, surgery, and pharmacy as their cult spread widely across Europe. The near eastern origin explains their popularity in Byzantine and Orthodox traditions and the concentration of their shrines in Eastern Europe, Southern Italy, and Sicily. The Medici family of Florence also viewed the "santi medici" as patrons, and their deeds were depicted by great Renaissance artists. In medical literature they are now revered as patrons of transplantation. Duffin's research focuses on how people have taken the saints with them as they moved within Italy and beyond. It also shows that their veneration is not confined to immigrant traditions, and that it fills important functions in health care and healing. Duffin's conclusions are situated within scholarship in medicine, medical history, sociology, anthropology, and popular religion; and intersect with the current medical debate over spiritual healing. This work springs from medical history and Roman Catholic traditions; however, it extends to general observations about the behaviors of sick people and about the formal responses to individual illness from collectivities in religion, medicine, and, indeed, history.
