Book Supermarket Differentiation in the Uk

Download or read book Supermarket Differentiation in the Uk written by Cornelia Obitz and published by Diplomica Verlag. This book was released on 2009-05 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines and explains the current situation and problems of supermarket chains in England. Supermarket chains are operating in a profitable market but they are confronted with the problem of high competition and compared to manufacturers they have only few possibilities to differentiate. Especially the importance of differentiation is questioned in this book. It is examined whether differentiation is really essential for gaining competitive advantage. For a comprehensive and substantiated demonstration secondary theoreatical data and a study with primary data is used. With theories of manufacturers and retailers possibilities for differentiation are identified. Aspects of customer perceptions are considered as important as differentiation and thus, included and linked to differentiation strategies. A study ascertained best practice by surveying students to examine perceived differentiation factors. Upon critical success factors perceived added value is identified as a major issue of differentiation strategies and included in this study. The research led to the fact that differentiation is not conducted by all supermarkets and that undifferentiation can also be a profitable strategy. Hence, positioning strategies solely based on differentiation is seen as inadequate. For a successful applied competitor based strategy a combination of differentiation types, price and differentiation interdependencies, market segmentation and customers' critical success factors is suggested.

Download or read book An empirical investigation of supermarket differentiation written by Cornelia Obitz and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2008-09-23 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Shopping at supermarkets plays an important role in our all lives. Food consumption increased immensely over the past decades and transferred food retailing into a potential and profitable market especially for big supermarket chains in the UK. However this has been realised not only by a few enterprises, thus food retailing became a challenging and demanding business in a high competitive environment. In correlation with these facts the first question that comes in mind is how can all these supermarkets compete successfully and defend their market position?. It is generally agreed that competitive advantage is necessary for companies to be successful. Mintzberg explains that supermarkets have represented successful generic strategies in the past but they must go beyond this generic strategy and find a way of competing in this business. With this background differentiation turns out as a current problem in the field of food retailing. Above all, plenty of theories of competitive advantage for manufacturers exist but retailing is still a sparely investigated field. Furthermore food retailers in the UK are operating in a high competitive industry more than every other European country and Cox & Brittain describe grocery retailing in the UK as an interesting field of competitive battles. Thus, theories are applied especially to supermarkets in the UK. Hence, this study focuses on the largest supermarket chains in the UK and the role and importance of differentiation in the field of competitive advantage is investigated and questioned. Academic objectives of the dissertation: The objective of this dissertation is to enrich the profound and wide field of competitive advantage with new findings. With the investigation of differentiation in food retailing a so far scarce analysed but complex topic is enlightened. During the exploration of the literature it became apparent that differentiation strategies are only of value for companies when differences between companies or brands add value to customers. Hence, customer perception creates a further main part of the literature review and the research. An empirical study with customers is conducted to highlight the customer perception of differentiation strategies in the UK food retail industry. The aim of the study is to reveal to what dimensions customer perception can influence differentiation strategies. The end result of primary research will rectify whether theory and [...]

Download or read book International marketing and trade of quality food products written by Alessandra Castellini and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-09-04 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to increased purchasing power of certain consumer segments all over the world and the related growing demand for food specialties for differentiated goods in the international markets, agri-food trade and marketing is no longer focused on commodities only. Key concepts of 'Marketing', 'International Trade' and 'Quality' are taking the forefront in the scientific debate among agricultural economists dealing with agricultural and food products markets. The need for scientific knowledge about several aspects of marketing for quality food products is growing. The aim of this book is to link these key concepts together and consider connections, overlaps, contradictions and complementarities between them. The topics covered by the studies range from geographical indications to organic food; from fair trade to functional food; from knowledge about quality requirements to the impact of the quest for quality. The geographical scope of the studies is broad and the perspectives vary including the consumer, the producer and the supply chain side. Book Drinking Water A Socio economic Analysis of Historical and Societal Variation

Download or read book Drinking Water A Socio economic Analysis of Historical and Societal Variation written by Mark Harvey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-09-25 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fascinating and challenging work, the author analyses the way water for drinking is produced, distributed, owned, acquired, and consumed in contrasting ways in different settings. From the taken-for-granted, all-purpose water, flowing out of taps in advanced economies to extreme inequalities of access to water of variable qualities, drinking water tells its own interesting story, but also reflects some of the centrally important characteristics of the state and economies of the different countries. From sparkling mineral water in Germany, to drinking water garages in Taiwan, from water tankers in Mexico City to street vendors in Delhi markets, comparisons are made to stretch our understanding of what we mean by ‘an economy’, quality, and property rights, of water. In addition, the study of socio-economics of drinking water provides a route into understanding interactions between polity, economy and nature. One of the major themes of the book is to analyse the ‘sociogenic’ nature of sustainability crises of economies of water in their environmental settings: epidemics, droughts, pollution, land subsidences and floods. Overall it develops an economic sociology, neo-Polanyian approach in a comparative and historical exploration of water for domestic consumption.

Book excerpt: CIMA offers a business qualification with a finance focus, aiming to produce members with accounting prowess who are skilled in strategic decision-making. 98% of its members work in business, the highest proportion of any worldwide accountancy body. Paper E3 'Enterprise Strategy' is a wide-ranging exam that includes aspects of strategic analysis, choice and implementation. To pass, candidates need both technical knowledge and the ability to apply their knowledge to specific scenarios.The syllabus is split into four areas: * Interacting with the Competitive Environment (20%) * Change Management (20%) * Evaluation of Strategic Options (30%) * Implementation of Strategic Plans (30%)The first section explores the impact and influence of an organisation's environment on its strategy. An organisation needs to take account of its environmental context as well as its own internal capabilities when assessing the strategic options available to it. Having identified these options, it then has to evaluate them to decide which is the most appropriate to pursue.The E3 syllabus recognises that implementing strategic plans involves managing change, and 20% of the syllabus is now devoted to issues involved in managing the change process. Change Management has not previously been examined at Strategic Level in the CIMA exams. The final section of the syllabus looks at the ways organisations control and measure the performance of the strategies they have implemented. The E3 Study Text provides you with comprehensive coverage of the principles of business strategy and how they can be applied to design and implement enterprise strategies. The Text also offers a range of short case studies which illustrate how business strategy ideas are applied in the real world. In the E3 exam, your ability to apply knowledge to a scenario is as important as pure knowledge, but it is still crucial to have a sound understanding of the key terms and ideas. The 'key terms' feature in the text will help you identify these key terms, while the 'section summaries' provide a convenient overview of each section of the text."e;
