Download or read book Sonatas Screams and Silence written by Alexis Luko and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sonatas, Screams, and Silence: Music and Sound in the Films of Ingmar Bergman is the first musical examination of Bergman’s style as an auteur filmmaker. It provides a comprehensive examination of all three aspects (music, sound effects, and voice) of Bergman’s signature soundtrack-style. Through examinations of Bergman’s biographical links to music, the role of music, sound effects, silence, and voice, and Bergman’s working methods with sound technicians, mixers, and editors, this book argues that Bergman’s soundtracks are as superbly developed as his psychological narratives and breathtaking cinematography. Interdisciplinary in nature, this book bridges the fields of music, sound, and film.
Download or read book Communicating around Interculturality in Research and Education written by Fred Dervin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-26 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book does not instruct the reader how to communicate interculturally but supports them in reflecting on how they can (re-)negotiate and (re-)construct knowledge(s), ideologies and relations around the notion of interculturality. Anchored in the author’s original and thought-provoking perspectives on interculturality, this interdisciplinary and global-minded book explores how communicating around the notion cannot do away with ideologisms, issues of language and translation or the problematization of voice and silence in research and education. Written in an original and stimulating way, relying on different writing genres and styles to ‘mimic’ the dynamism and flexibility of the very notion under review, the author urges us to (un-)voice, scrutinize, nurture and galvanize our ways of dealing with interculturality alone and together with others in academia. The very specific focus of the book, communicating around interculturality (instead of ‘doing’ interculturality), represents a fresh and important move for observing, analyzing, speaking of and contributing to today's complex and divided world. The title is aimed at researchers, students and educators interested in examining and enriching their own takes on interculturality, from a more reflexive and interactive perspective.
Download or read book Ingmar Bergman and the Rituals of Art written by Paisley Livingston and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2019-06-30 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through close readings of Bergman's famous and lesser-known films, as well as through study of his early stage productions, untranslated essays, interviews, and scripts, Paisley Livingston elucidates Bergman's rigorous critique of the violence, persecution, and deceit in modern culture. Bergman's focal point is the dilemma of the artist in society, the nature and value of his exchanges with the public. He envisions modern art in terms of its relation to a moribund tradition: in its dependence on destructive and sterile ritual patterns, art has lost the power to influence the development of our lives. Bergman criticizes the vestiges of cult values in both popular and elite forms of art, from the idolatry of the star system to the aggressive primitivism of certain avant-garde experiments. Linking his innovations in film form to an investigation of the processes of social interaction, Bergman is able to confront the artist's relation to both the order and the disorder of culture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MuVi6 is the sixth edition of the publication dedicated to Visual Music – following MuVi (Granada, 2007), MuVi2 (Granada, 2009), MuVi3 (Almería, 2012), MuVi4 (Alcalá la Real, Jaén, 2015), MuVi5 (Granada and Alcalá la Real, Jaén, 2018) – an event integrated with the VII International Congress: “Synesthesia: Science and Art”, held from the 26th to 29th of October 2022, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Granada and at the Convento de Capuchinos in Alcalá la Real (Jaén), Spain. This event confirms its primary objective of providing perceivable, aesthetic (and synaesthetic) feedback on the theoretical contents addressed at the conference through lectures, debates and posters, proving over time, in the editions that have followed, to be capable of stimulating debate This particular edition, in line with the conference, aims to underline the challenge between the digital and the material: this is the interpretative key that we asked of both the authors of the preliminary essays anticipating the collection of works, and the authors of the video projects. Hybridisation was expressed on several levels, which can be summarised in two main trends: in the sources, where nature and the kinematics of the elements, e.g. liquids or gasses, are a source of inspiration; or in the hybridisation of techniques where the material and the digital alternate. Each edition surprises us with the richness of the productions, with increasingly complex compositional and technical solutions, undoubtedly facilitated by the evolution of audio/video software and visual programming languages that facilitate new aesthetic experiments. The sound/visual relationships are therefore as much the result of a perceptual analysis as of an algorithmic application that can escape the control of the perceivable
