Discount Broker betreten damit Neuland in einem Wirtschaftszweig, der bisher fast ausschließlich von Investmentbanken dominiert worden ist. Somit scheint sich eine neue Sorte von Investmentbanken zu entwickeln und die Vorherrschaft privilegierter Institutionen im Neuemissionsgeschäft aufzuweichen. Vor diesem Hintergrund möchte die vorliegende Arbeit auf das aufkommende Segment des Neuemissionsgeschäfts der führenden deutschen Discount Broker eingehen und objektiv beschreiben. Durchführung und Strategien im Neuemissionsgeschäft der Direct Broker werden im Detail betrachtet. Die Untersuchung beschränkt sich dabei auf die drei Marktführer im discount broking: ConSors Discount-Broker AG, Comdirect AG and Direkt Anlage Bank AG. Zwischen Anfang September und Ende November 2000 haben die drei Brokerhäuser ihren Einstieg ins Neuemissionsgeschäft offiziell angekündigt. ConSors entschied sich, eine eigene Investment Bank zu gründen ( do-it-yourself approach ) und Comdirect zieht Nutzen aus der Unterstützung durch die Mutter Commerzbank ( piggy-back approach ), aber erhebt Anspruch auf Führungsmandate bei Neuemissionen infolge des Aufbaus eines eigenen Geschäftsbereichs Investmentbanking. DAB beschloss hingegen strategische Partnerschaften einzugehen ( tie-up approach ), um die Chancen zu erhöhen, bei Neuemissionen berücksichtigt zu werden, ohne sich dabei jedoch selbst zur Investmentbank zu entwickeln. Die drei Discount Brokers treten üblicherweise als Verkaufsagenten auf, planen jedoch ehrgeizig in absehbarer Zeit Co-Underwriting- und Führungsmandate bei Neuemissionen zu erhalten; die Broker würden dann die Bezeichnung Investmentbank rechtfertigen. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, die Frage, ob zur Zeit tatsächlich eine neue Generation von Investmentbanken entsteht, hinreichend zu beantworten. How is this evident in behaviour? Reflecting on accounts by Chinese, Indian, Malay and Indigenous members of Malaysian society, this book addresses these questions from a practices perspective increasingly adopted by scholars in marketing and media studies. The volume provides an account of practices theory from its origins in critical hermeneutics (such as Heidegger, Gadamer and Ricoeur), as reflecting on the processes of embodied understanding, developing alongside interpretive and reception theory. Part I draws upon authors as diverse as Heidegger and Henry Jenkins, with a practices perspective on media and mall consuming shown as developing from forty years of theorizing about audience activity. An empirical study of Malaysian blogging and branding on YouTube exemplifies this approach. Part II considers Malaysians absorbed in social media sites, as everyday visitors and the subjects of consumer research. The book then returns to the material world, exploring the horizons of understanding from which Malaysians enter their mediated malls, and concludes by positioning media practices theory within a spectrum of philosophical ideas. Two years into the pandemic, most countries report sustained disruptions across service delivery platforms and health areas with a profound impact on health outcomes. The impact of these disruptions is magnified within marginalized communities and in countries experiencing protracted conflict. There is an urgent need to focus on recovery through investment in the essential public health functions (EPHFs) and the foundations of health systems with a focus on primary health care, and whole-of-government and -society engagement. The aim of this Research Topic is to gather, transfer and promote operationalization of key experiences from COVID-19 to inform global and country level recovery that better promote health; guide policy direction towards building health systems resilience; and thereby ensure economic and social prosperity. Experience with COVID-19 has demonstrated that traditional approaches to health system strengthening have failed to achieve the complementary goals of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and health security with the divide between the most vulnerable and well-off only widening. Much of what had been learned from previous experiences such as Ebola in West Africa has not been widely applied. This has left health and economic systems vulnerable to 21 st century public health challenges, ranging from conflict and natural disasters to aging demographics and rising rates of non-communicable and communicable diseases and antimicrobial resistance. These challenges require intentional focus and investment as well as whole-of-government and -society engagement with health to build health system resilience. Greater action is needed to prevent the devastating effects of war and conflict on the health of the most vulnerable. This Research Topic will convene the knowledge and practices of leaders in public health, health systems, and humanitarian and development sectors. This is to ensure lessons from COVID-19 inform the recovery agenda and promote sustainable health and socioeconomic recovery for all. Lest we forget and find ourselves again unprepared and vulnerable in the face of an even greater threat.
