Book Rock n Roll in Orange County

Download or read book Rock n Roll in Orange County written by Chris Epting and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-18 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great acts--from Hendrix to Joplin and from Kiss to Korn--played to the Orange County crowd at such classic venues as Huntington Beach's Golden Bear, the Anaheim Convention Center and Anaheim's Doll Hut. Rock 'n' roll's OC roots include Leo Fender's electric guitar factory in Fullerton and the birthplace for the garage-band standard "Louie Louie" in Anaheim. As the music changed, iconic OC groups like Social Distortion and Avenged Sevenfold helped lead the way. Final curtains came down here, too: though killed in England, Eddie Cochran is buried in Cypress, and Bobby Hatfield, half of the Righteous Brothers, is interred at Corona del Mar. Join pop culture expert Chris Epting for the essential big hits plus idiosyncratic flip-side riffs of Orange County's mighty rock 'n' roll history.

Book excerpt: During the last twelve years, Dr. Baron has led fifty pre-Sabbath-service seminars at the Society for the Advancement of Judaism, New York and/or the New London Synagogue. These didactic essays explore the Bible, theology, liturgy, social responsibility, and the arts - from Who wrote the Bible? to Mark Twain's Concerning the Jews. Each chapter examines a problem that had perplexed Baron, and for which he provides a detailed evidence-based review together with sources. He pursues each issue from hundreds or thousands of years ago to the present, including both the Diaspora and Israel. He looks at what countries bordering Palestine had discussed and practiced, and scrutinizes the attitudes of other Abrahamic and Eastern religions and their differing denominations. Finally, he attempts to assess the relevance of each topic for the twenty-first century.

Book Contested Identities

Download or read book Contested Identities written by Peter Loizos and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-09-29 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this collection leading anthropologists provide a comprehensive yet highly nuanced view of what it means to be a Greek man or woman, married or unmarried, functioning within a complex society based on kinship ties. Exploring the ways in which sexual identity is constructed, these authors discuss, for example, how going out for coffee embodies dominant ideas about female sexuality, moral virtue, and autonomy; why men in a Lesbos village maintain elaborate friendships with nonfamily members while the women do not; why young housewives often participate in conflict-resolution rituals; and how the dominant role of mature married householders is challenged by unmarried persons who emphasize spontaneity and personal autonomy. This collection demonstrates that kinship and gender identities in Greece are not unitary and fixed: kinship is organized in several highly specific forms, and gender identities are plural, competing, antagonistic, and are continually being redefined by contexts and social change.

It aims at the transformation of the human heart and the gratification of the reader. The biggest achievement for a book writer would perhaps be the number of copies sold. As far as the Sunrays series of books is concerned, success seems to be measured by the number of people who have been inspired to better themselves. The authors' mantra for life seems to be, to test each action on this touchstone- "Will this rebound to HIS renown?"

Book If It Had Not Been So

Download or read book If It Had Not Been So written by Thabiso Songo-Ncube and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2020-01-15 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IF IT HAD NOT BEEN SO, HOW WOULD IT HAVE BEEN? In this book I talk about the life and experiences that shaped my character from adolescent age to adulthood. There are tragedies that I faced and there were happy times too. The experiences I went through whether good or bad, I had a faithful trustworthy invisible omnipotent and omnipresent friend who made sure I was protected all the time. Death came so close in many instances, but I believe He was there to extinguish all the flaming arrows heading my way. He made me sleep through and slip away from danger. In the darkest hours, he made sure I was safe from tripping or stumbling upon deadly traps and snares of death. Thank you, mama, for teaching me about the invisible faithful one. I will forever live by His principles and will pass them on to your grand children.
