Book excerpt: Life on the Fringe is the tale of a woman plagued by the effects of manic depression and seasonal affective disorder whose condition is greatly aggravated by the birth of her sixth child, which leads to poor living conditions and isolation for the family. The woman resents the child from her birth, and a struggle between the two escalates out of proportion, resulting in the torture of the girl that she must endure in order to keep the family together. The girl adores her father and competes with her mother for his love and attention. Although the father takes a special interest in the girl and a strong bond forms between them, his unwavering love for his wife is no match for the girl. When the father contracts tuberculosis and is sent to a sanatorium for over two years, the young girl is left vulnerable to the vicious attacks from her mother, and the hatred they feel for one another fuels their struggle, causing the girl to rebel, which leads to even greater abuse by her mother. By the time the father returns to the home, the mother has sunk into a deep despair, never to recover. Her death is greeted with relief by the young girl, but also the loss of her fathers attention, whose life has become meaningless without his wife. The girl does find love outside the home and is finally able to look forward to a brighter future.

Book Escape Prisons of the Mind

Download or read book Escape Prisons of the Mind written by Kaziah May Hancock and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2022-05-13 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Escape Prisons of the Mind By: Kaziah May Hancock Let me take you by the hand to walk with me down a dark, rocky road as I go thru the school of hard knocks, where only the strong survive. Of course I use colorful language, who wouldn't? Hell, polygamy itself is a kick in the gut. The powerful story that follows is that of an unscrupulous man using religious compulsion in the extreme, to subject and exploit other human beings for his own personal gain. By adding a word where it was convenient and subtracting words so as to give scriptures a whole new meaning, then claiming priesthood power and rights, he locked naïve victims into a trap. Preach long enough, loud enough, often enough and they will begin to believe it. Control the environment. Do not allow your subjects to have outside communication, then capitalize on their labors. And what do you have? Prisons of the Mind. © This is a revised and extended version of that, my first book, now to include the rest of my life after I escaped. It is a true story of survival you will never forget. Oh, and by the way, the people involved in this story were part of the polygamist group eventually led by the child molester Warren Jeffs, who is in prison. I am now a Christian, a recipient of the goodness and grace of God, the God that is GOD. I changed some names to protect the children. The contents are for mature adults only. If you have heard my name, it may be from a news clip on KARE 11 News out of Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2006 about where I, as an artist, began painting oil portraits of our Fallen Soldiers. I send the paintings to the families as a free gift. What they don’t know is the oppression I have endured and why my freedom means more to me than life itself.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My brave wife is a victim of a DUI collision, a common tragedy Americans suffer and tolerate. Why? Americans are conditioned by perception management to crave alcohol! The culinary industry insists beer, wine, or a cocktail is necessary before, during, and after a meal. Advertisers feature star athletes and Hollywood celebrities to extoll the youthful pleasure of liquor. College curriculumdrink and be merry. Auto insurance agencies defend the drunk driver. The courts practice a catch and release rule of law for DUI crime. Politicians legislate DUI leniency. The public accepts the inevitability and unpredictability of the drunk driver, like a bad weather disaster. DUI victims are crybabies paying slick lawyers to exploit the system for undeserved reward. The truth is American DUI victims suffer, denied justice and restitution for injury. The drunk driver regains the privilege of driving, celebrates with a cocktail. Watching the game, the sport stars hawk a new brew. God bless the highway victims.

Book excerpt: When a murder echoing a fifteen-year-old cold case rocks the Southern town of Savannah, crime reporter Harper McClain risks everything to find the identity of this calculated killer in Christi Daugherty's new novel The Echo Killing. A city of antebellum architecture, picturesque parks, and cobblestone streets, Savannah moves at a graceful pace. But for Harper McClain, the timeless beauty and culture that distinguishes her home’s Southern heritage vanishes during the dark and dangerous nights. She wouldn’t have it any other way. Not even finding her mother brutally murdered in their home when she was twelve has made her love Savannah any less. Her mother’s killer was never found, and that unsolved murder left Harper with an obsession that drove her to become one of the best crime reporters in the state of Georgia. She spends her nights with the police, searching for criminals. Her latest investigation takes her to the scene of a homicide where the details are hauntingly familiar: a young girl being led from the scene by a detective, a female victim naked and stabbed multiple times in the kitchen, and no traces of any evidence pointing towards a suspect. Harper has seen all of this before in her own life. The similarities between the murder of Marie Whitney and her own mother’s death lead her to believe they’re both victims of the same killer. At last, she has the chance to find the murderer who’s eluded justice for fifteen years and make sure another little girl isn’t forever haunted by a senseless act of violence—even if it puts Harper in the killer’s cross-hairs...
