What do we say they are? Foreigners. [Illustration: Exhibition in London. Men of different races there.] One man we call an Egyptian. Why? Comes from Egypt. [Persian, Arabian, Japanese. Where from?] These names tell us something about them. But different religions in the world as well as different nations. Some people called Buddhists. Why? Followers of Buddha. Some Mahommedans. Why? Called, you see, after the name of their master. So are we. Our name? Christians. Why? We are followers of - scholars of our Lord, Christ. I. A Little Christian. See when our Lord's followers first called by this name. Acts xi. 26. A sort of nickname at first - a name of ridicule. Yet now we are proud of it. [Illustration: Soldier or sailor - his uniform - his flag - proud of it - will not have it insulted. Why not? An insult to his Queen and country.] Christians have a King. Who? A flag. What? [Illustration: A large building - cross on the roof - we know it is a Christian temple - no cross on a Mahommedan mosque.] The Cross the Christian sign. (St. Matt. xvi. 24. 1 Cor. i. 18.) Are children Christians? - our scholars, even the infants? Why? Because their parents Christians? No. Better reason than that? Christians a large family. Book Bible Lessons on Christian Life and Death

Download or read book Bible Lessons on Christian Life and Death written by Boston First Church and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible Lessons on Christian Life and Death: Prepared for the Sunday School of First Church Joy. The little book has been growing month by month, and during all the months of its growth it has been bearing fruit. The lessons have been made more attractive and useful by the addition of a few stanzas from appropriate hymns. The number of these has been increased in this book, so that the same lesson may be learned with different hymns. Wishing to use the questions again, we have gathered up the scattered leaves, and put them together into a more abiding form. They are at the service of any who may desire to make trial of them, and we hope that they will do for other schoolsi what they have done for ours. Download or read book A Year With St Paul Or Fifty Two Lessons for the Sundays of the Year Classic Reprint written by Charles Eugene Knox and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-10 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Year With St. Paul or Fifty-Two Lessons for the Sundays of the Year IT is my desire and my hope to interest young people who are beginning to study the Scriptures by subjects rather than by the regular, measured lesson of verses. This Year with St. Paul is designed to give variety to the course of Biblical Instruction in the Church, the Family and the School and especially to open, if pos sible, a new and attractive department of study to those just ready to advance from seven-verse lessons to something more general and more continuous, and who, in the transition front-childhood to youth, are growing impatient of the ordinary unvarying recitation and questioning of verse by verse. The subjects have been stated with the hope of exciting and fixing the attention. The questions are intended to bring out both the text of the Scripture-lesson and the descrip tions which follow, and to be suggestive to those who find such questions a help in teaching. Book Hymns and Songs for the Sunday School Classic Reprint

Download or read book Hymns and Songs for the Sunday School Classic Reprint written by Harold Lewars and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hymns and Songs for the Sunday School Upon the Sunday school superintendent depends in large measure the useful ness of the book. He should not limit himself to certain tunes or to certain familiar sections. Each hymn has been inserted for a special purpose, and every hymn is meant to be sung. In the Advent season the children should be taught the Advent hymns, and so on through the Church Year. In many cases it will be possible for the superintendent to impart interesting information about the history of a hymn. Schools should be assembled occasionally for practice. A musical drill, following the Sunday. School lesson, is not contrary to the spirit of the Sunday school. Book The Sunday School Prayer Book Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Sunday School Prayer Book Classic Reprint written by Treadwell Walden and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Sunday School Prayer Book The Book of Common Prayer contains no provision for worship in the Sunday-school, and the multitude of published liturgies would seem to be sufficient evidence that a prayer book, especially adapted to children, is a universal want in the church. The more the Sunday-school system is perfected, the more will this want be felt. The children practically form a congregation by themselves, with a worship and teach ing of their own. They need, therefore, a prayer-book of their own not by any means as a substitute for the great manual, (any more than attendance at Sunday-school is a substitute for attendance at church, ) but rather as an intro duction to it a sort of primer prayer-book, so closely resem bling it in form and arrangement as to engage their interest and affection, and yet so child-like in character as to be out grown with childhood. Book The Sunday School Prayer Book

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Sunday School Prayer Book The Book of Common Prayer contains no provision for worship in the Sunday-school, and the multitude of published liturgies would seem to be sufficient evidence that a prayer-book, especially adapted to children, is a universal want in the church. The more the Sunday-school system is perfected, the more will this want be felt. The children practically form a congregation by themselves, with a worship and teaching of their own. They need, therefore, a prayer-book of their own - not by any means as a substitute for the great manual, (any more than attendance at Sunday-school is a substitute for attendance at church,) but rather as an introduction to it - a sort of primer prayer-book, so closely resembling it in form and arrangement as to engage their interest and affection, and yet so child-like In character as to be outgrown with childhood. The difficulty of preparing such a work will be appreciated when it is considered how much it involves. In the first place, it must retain all the effective and attractive features of its model - even the familiar names. In the next place, It must be minutely accurate in doctrinal expression. If it undertakes to follow the circle of the Church year, it must unfold the panoramic lesson of the Church, and bring into view every prominent event In the life of Christ, every doctrine of the Gospel, and every particular of Christian duty. In order to be effective and attractive, it must be constantly changeable, animated. Interesting, and inspiriting, and yet be so simply constructed as to be used with facility by children of all ages. It must likewise be so brief as to occupy but a small fraction of the time spent in the session of the school. Book Bible and Church History Stories

Download or read book Bible and Church History Stories written by Deseret Sunday School Union and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible and Church History Stories: For the Primary Department of the Sunday School We are sending this work, Bible and Church History Stories, to the teachers of the Primary Department as their official guide for our two years' course of study. In doing so we earnestly hope and sincerely pray that the stories will assist the teachers in presenting to the chil dren under their care lessons that will so impress the lit tle folks as to broaden and strengthen their characters, increase their faith, and make Latter-day Saints of them. Never fail to read and prayerfully study the Bible text itself, that you may be able to live the experience covered by the story, recognize the value of the truth it portrays, make the 'message your own, and from the abundance of your love for the truth, for our Heavenly Father, and for the children, give it to the little ones in such a way as to lead them to know, to fee-l, and to live the truth. Remember always that the story is but a means and not an end - a means to reach and enrich their souls - not merely their intellects. Tell it to them in your own way - the way best calculated to appeal to the hearts of the children of your class. Remember, however, that there are certain fundamentals that make for good story telling. First there must be an interesting Point of Contact Each lesson is provided, with one. You may use it or think out one that will go better. Lastly a good appli cation of the story to the child's life should always be made. Likewise is each lesson provided with an applica tion. The teacher is at liberty to improve on it. Possibly the application can better be fitted to local situations. The Text only is mandatory. However, we expect consistency. If you change the lesson plan at.all, make it consistent throughout. May the Father give you to feel that you have painted upon the living canvas of the soul the lessons of God and truth and immortality that shall resist the decaying hand of time and pass on to eternity. Though simply told, we indulge the hope that these stories will find a welcome in the homes of the p'eople for fireside reading.
