Book The University Look

Download or read book The University Look written by Jake Williamson and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a beautiful Saturday morning in October. You wake up and turn on your television to ESPN. It's football season, and you have on your team's gear, knowing that kickoff is just a couple hours away. As you begin to search for your team's channel, you discover that your team won't be airing on television today. Your team has been off to a great start, and today's game might push you into the Associated Poll (AP) top 25 rankings. You then go to the team's official website to figure out what channel is airing their game. The website says "ESPN+," a paid subscription service offered by ESPN. This is a problem that is facing many collegiate football, baseball, and men and women's basketball. This study explores the attractiveness of not only collegiate athletic conferences, but also the looks of a university when it comes down to being broadcasted.

Book American Politics in the Postwar Sunbelt

Download or read book American Politics in the Postwar Sunbelt written by Sean P. Cunningham and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-06-30 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the political culture of the American Sunbelt since the end of World War II. It highlights and explains the Sunbelt's emergence during the second half of the twentieth century as the undisputed geographic epicenter for conservative Republican power in the United States. However, the book also investigates the ongoing nature of political contestation within the postwar Sunbelt, often highlighting the underappreciated persistence of liberal and progressive influences across the region. Sean P. Cunningham argues that the conservative Republican ascendancy that so many have identified as almost synonymous with the rise of the postwar American Sunbelt was hardly an easy, unobstructed victory march. Rather, it was consistently challenged and never foreordained. The history of American politics in the postwar Sunbelt resembles a rollercoaster of partisan and ideological adaptation and transformation.

Book The Unanimous Champions of College Football 1869 2019

Download or read book The Unanimous Champions of College Football 1869 2019 written by Robert J. Reid and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2022-05-12 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 150 years of college football history, the national championship has been decided by unanimous vote only 33 times. This book analyzes the various methods of selecting these champions and what made the teams special. Drawing on archives and early published works, a firsthand description of the 1869 inaugural game between Princeton and Rutgers is provided, along with details of how these earliest teams were managed. The contributions and innovations of Walter Camp, the "Father of Football," are explored, as is the evolution of the game itself. Each unanimous season since the turn of the 20th century--from Yale in 1900 to LSU in 2019--is covered in detail, with a brief history of each school's football program. The question "is there a best ever team" is explored.

This book was released on 2014-12-09 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: College football conferences are a beautiful mess. A hodgepodge of all sorts of names, sizes, and locations. Added to all the confusion is the fact that this year marks the first time the College Football Playoff (CFP) system will be used by the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). And it's up to an assorted band of 13 robed clerics to consult a glowing orb of crystals in order to ordain the chosen few...the top three percent of teams, to fight until death, or for 60 minutes (whichever comes first) in two stages of competition that will determine who is truly worthy of the greatest reward of all…a shiny 35-pound trophy.

Book Saturday Millionaires

Download or read book Saturday Millionaires written by Kristi Dosh and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2013-07-31 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Last year Football Bowl Subdivision college football programs produced over $1 billion in net revenue. Record-breaking television contracts were announced. Despite the enormous revenue, college football is in upheaval. Schools are accused of throwing their academic mission aside to fund their football teams. The media and fans are beating the drum for athletes to be paid. And the conferences are being radically revised as schools search for TV money. Saturday Millionaires shows that schools are right to fund their football teams first; that athletes will never be paid like employees; how the media skews the financial facts; and why the TV deals are so important. It follows the money to the heart of college football and shows the real game being played, covering such areas as: Myth #1: All Athletic Departments Are Created Equal Myth #2: Supporting Football Means Degrading Academics Myth #3: College Football Players Could Be Paid Like Employees Myth #4: Football Coaches Are Overpaid Myth #5: A Playoff Will Bring Equality to College Football Myth #6: Only a Handful of Athletic Departments Are Self-Sustaining The business of college football is unlike any other business. Saturday Millionaires takes you behind the scenes and teaches you how to understand the industry from the inside out, touching on such subjects as conference realignment, pay-for-play, conference television networks and where all those millions go at the end of the day.

Book Modern Sport Ethics

Download or read book Modern Sport Ethics written by Angela Lumpkin and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-12-12 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The descriptions and examples of unethical behaviors in sport in this book will challenge readers to rethink how they view sport and question whether participating in sport builds character-especially at the youth and amateur levels. Sport potentially can teach character as well as social and moral values, but only when these positive concepts are consistently taught, modeled, and reinforced by sport leaders with the moral courage to do so. The seeming moral crisis threatening amateur and youth sport-evidenced by athletes, coaches, and parents alike making poor ethical choices-and ongoing scandals regarding performance-enhancing drug use by professional athletes make sports ethics a topic of great concern. This work enables readers to better understand the ethical challenges facing competitive sport by addressing issues such as gamesmanship, doping, cheating, sportsmanship, fair play, and respect for the game. A compelling read for coaches, sport administrators, players, parents, and sport fans, the book examines specific examples of unethical behaviors-many cases of which occur in amateur and educational sports-to illustrate how these incidents threaten the perception that sport builds character. It identifies and investigates the multiple reasons for cheating in sport, such as the fact that the rewards for succeeding are so high, and the feeling of athletes that they must behave as they do to "level the playing field" because everyone else is cheating, being violent, taking performance-enhancing drugs, or doing whatever it takes to win. Readers will gain insight into how coaches and sport administrators can achieve the goals for youth, interscholastic, intercollegiate, and Olympic sport by stressing moral values and character development as well as see how specific recommendations can help ensure that sport can serve to build character rather than teach bad behavior in the pursuit of victory.
