Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Benin Empire flourished as an independent kingdom in present-day southern Nigeria. On February 19, 1897, a combined British Navy and Niger Coast Protectorate Force, code-named "Benin Punitive Expedition", captured Benin City, the kingdom's capital city. According to the British official statement, the "Benin Punitive Expedition" was a reprisal for the alleged killing of seven unarmed British officials on a diplomatic mission to Benin City by some Benin Chiefs on January 4, 1897, at Ugbine village, near Benin City. Today the Empire no longer exists in geographical maps, but her greatness, influence, and splendour can be still be seen in her artefacts, artworks, and mnemonics that were looted after Benin City was destroyed on February 21, 1897. Presently, over 90 percent of these Benin treasures are on display in private and public American and European museums and galleries, and in the possession of the looters' descendants. The events that led to the Invasion, looting, and destruction of Benin City, were well documented by the officials of the British Navy and Niger Coast Protectorate Authority, who played major roles in this darkest and saddest chapter of Benin history. However, for over 100 years the narratives have been retold and rewritten by American and European mainstream media, and experts and scholars of African art history and history: but sadly, prejudiced and massively distorted. Summon My Ehi To Ugbine, is based on the candid, impartial and true accounts of the events that led to the invasion of Benin City and the looting and destruction of the city, as was written by the leading actors of the episode.

Book The Brutish Museums

Download or read book The Brutish Museums written by Dan Hicks and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walk into any European museum today and you will see the curated spoils of Empire. They sit behind plate glass: dignified, tastefully lit. Accompanying pieces of card offer a name, date and place of origin. They do not mention that the objects are all stolen. Few artefacts embody this history of rapacious and extractive colonialism better than the Benin Bronzes - a collection of thousands of metal plaques and sculptures depicting the history of the Royal Court of the Obas of Benin City, Nigeria. Pillaged during a British naval attack in 1897, the loot was passed on to Queen Victoria, the British Museum and countless private collections. 0The story of the Benin Bronzes sits at the heart of a heated debate about cultural restitution, repatriation and the decolonisation of museums. In The Brutish Museum, Dan Hicks makes a powerful case for the urgent return of such objects, as part of awider project of addressing the outstanding debt of colonialism.

Book excerpt: The Qur’an identifies Jesus as a sign of God, and he holds a place as one of the most important prophets in Islam. Looking at Jesus in Islam also reveals both deep differences from and rich connections to the view of Jesus in Christianity. In The Other Prophet, Mouhanad Khorchide and Klaus von Stosch explore and explain the position of the Qur’anic Jesus, with one scholar working from the Muslim and the other from the Christian theological perspective. Their combined research presents a history of Jesus’ presence in the Qur’an and provides astute observations to deepen the understanding of both Christians and Muslims. Here we find that a common view of Jesus from the Muslim and Christian sides is not only possible, but also expands our understanding of Jesus and his message.

Book Life of Prophet Muhammad SAW Last Messenger and Prophet of God English Edition Ultimate Version

Download or read book Life of Prophet Muhammad SAW Last Messenger and Prophet of God English Edition Ultimate Version written by Jannah Firdaus Mediapro and published by Blurb. This book was released on 2020-01-23 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life of Prophet Muhammad SAW The Last Messenger and Prophet of Allah SWT (God) English Edition Ultimate Version Based from The Noble Quran and Al-Hadith. The advent of the Prophet Muhammad SAW changed the face of the history of mankind in a manner that this world has never seen before. Since the first man and Prophet Adam Pbuh was sent down to Earth, Allah SWT sent many prophets and messengers to guide mankind to the Truth and to the Straight Path. Soon after the deaths of these prophets, their followers deviated from the teachings and corrupted the religion of Allah. He rejuvenated the Truth as taught by the previous prophets and messengers, and re-established the Law of Allah on Earth through the teachings of The Holy Qur'an and the practice of the Sunnah. At the time of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, two great prophetic religions were practiced in the environs of Arabia - namely Judaism and Christianity. Both of these religions were born from the basic teachings of Islam (Tawhid/Pure Monotheism) as taught by Prophet Musa Pbuh and Prophet Isa Pbuh. However, the original teachings were lost, and these religions were born. Though the Arabs believed in the concept of a supreme deity as originally taught by their progenitor Prophet Ibrahim Pbuh, most of the Arabs had become polytheists while a minority amongst them turned towards the religions of their cousins, Judaism and Christianity. The Bait-Al-Haraam in Makkah, which had been reconstructed by Prophet Ibrahim Pbuh for Allah's worship had been filled with hundred images and idols by these polytheists.
