Thirty-year-old Morgan O’Keefe put her science career on hold to raise her young son. Though Morgan loves many things about staying home with her child, she feels restless and ready for a change. Struggling artist Natalie Reynolds, fed up with New York City’s hectic pace, moves to the Berkshires for a year to house-sit her aunt’s fabulous home on Dragonfly Lake, where a handsome neighbor becomes her unexpected rescuer. After her mother breaks her leg, Bella Barnaby quits her job in Austin and returns home to help out her large, boisterous family. While an attractive architect has designs on her, Bella harbors long held secret dreams of her own. Book excerpt: In book two of this fiction series based on the best-selling non-fiction book The Four Seasons of Marriage, readers meet the blended family of Derek and Kim Finley. Kim has a set of twins—one boy and one girl—from her first marriage; Luke has recently been diagnosed with diabetes, and Lydia is acting out as a result of the attention now being showered on Luke. To complicate matters, Derek’s overbearing mother comes to live with them. With all that’s going on in their lives, Kim and Derek’s communication begins to break down and their marriage slowly moves into winter. Although the second book will focus on Kim and Derek, readers will also encounter all their favorite characters—Patsy Pringle, Pete Roberts, Steve and Brenda, Esther and Charlie—as well as some new ones, like the proprietor of the new sandwich shop that’s moved in next to Patsy’s beauty parlor. The series is based on the marriage principles found in Gary Chapman’s non-fiction book The Four Seasons of Marriage. Similar in tone and light-hearted, quirky humor as Jan Karon’s Mitford series, Fannie Flagg’s books or Steel Magnolias. Each book has a study guide that talks about the four seasons of marriage and the healing strategies depicted in that volume’s story.

The book ends with a description of laboratory experiments mostly carried out by the author and his co-workers, and a simple summary of theoretical models. Book Synoptic scale Influence on the Monterey Bay Sea breeze

Download or read book Synoptic scale Influence on the Monterey Bay Sea breeze written by Michael Charles Knapp and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diurnal fluctuations of the surface ambient wind associated with the sea-breeze are analyzed for the period May 01 through September 30, 1993 from a single station, Monterey airport, located on the southern Monterey Bay coast. Data analyzed included time series of wind speed, wind direction, clouds, precipitation and locally generated 3 hourly surface pressure analyses of California and the Pacific northwest. The characteristics of the sea-breeze circulation under varying synoptic-scale patterns are evaluated to determine the modifying roles of boundary layer stability, surface inversion strength, and low-level cloud amount on the resultant time of onset and peak intensity of the Monterey Bay sea-breeze. The primary modifying factor under all synoptic-scale pressure patterns was the boundary layer depth and stability with the differential heating taking longer to destabilize the boundary layer during the Trough regime.

Book excerpt: Set in the steamy coastal Alabama town of Sea Breeze, an interconnected group of older teens hook up, break up . . . and much, much more. Cage York has a free ride to college for baseball - or he did, until he got in trouble for drink-driving. Now he has to give in to his coach's demands and spend his summer baling hay. No hot babes in bikinis waiting to meet a Southern boy to make her vacation complete. Just him and the damned cows. Oh and an uptight, snarky brunette with the biggest blue eyes he's ever seen. Eva Brooks planned out her life step by step when she was eight years old. Not once over the years had she lost sight of her goals. Josh Beasley, her next door neighbour, had been the centre of those goals. He'd been her first boyfriend at seven, her first kiss at ten, her first date at fifteen and her first tragedy at eighteen. The moment she'd received the phone call from Josh's mother saying he'd been killed along with four other soldiers just north of Baghdad, Eva's carefully planned life imploded in the worst way possible. Now she has to deal with the arrogant Cage York and his irritating smile. But as the summer bailing hay rolls by, Cage and Eva learn that what they want (and need) may be something they never saw coming.

Book Climatology and Analysis of the Monterey Bay Sea Breeze

Download or read book Climatology and Analysis of the Monterey Bay Sea Breeze written by Robert D. Round and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sea breeze events on the Monterey Bay are examined from a single station at the mouth of the Salinas Valley. Data analyzed are continuous, two- minute meteorological samples of windspeed, wind direction, temperature, dew point, incoming shortwave irradiance, and incoming longwave irradiance. A speed index is defined using the average hourly maximum and minimum windspeeds oriented in the cross-shore direction thereby reflecting the thermally induced diurnal windspeed enhancement. Large-scale effects on this mesoscale circulation are presented through evaluation of changes in boundary layer depth with changes in speed index. Changes in boundary layer depth as reflected in trends of inland stratus penetration and offshore flow provide insight for anticipating sea breeze intensity.
