Jumping off aquamarine studded Mount Antero at the head of southern Colorado's San Luis Valley the reader is given a new world view of this beautiful land in the sky. In this little book Native American history and mythic landscape is brought into context with the patterned dynamics of our living Earth. Crossed my Ley Lines, encompassed by Earth Rings, and centered on Center Colorado; the Ark of Antero is revealed as America's premier sacred landscape.

Book Low Temperature Thermochronology

Download or read book Low Temperature Thermochronology written by Peter W. Reiners and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-12-17 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 58 of Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry presents 22 chapters covering many of the important modern aspects of thermochronology. The coverage of the chapters ranges widely, including historical perspective, analytical techniques, kinetics and calibrations, modeling approaches, and interpretational methods. In general, the chapters focus on intermediate- to low-temperature thermochronometry, though some chapters cover higher temperature methods such as monazite U/Pb closure profiles, and the same theory and approaches used in low-temperature thermochronometry are generally applicable to higher temperature systems. The widely used low- to medium-temperature thermochronometric systems are reviewed in detail in these chapters, but while there are numerous chapters reviewing various aspects of the apatite (U-Th)/He system, there is no chapter singularly devoted to it, partly because of several previous reviews recently published on this topic.

Book Geology of Colorado and Western Ore Deposits Classic Reprint

Download or read book Geology of Colorado and Western Ore Deposits Classic Reprint written by Arthur Lakes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Geology of Colorado and Western Ore Deposits This treatise contains the substance of a series of elementary lectures delivered by the author to the students of the Colorado State School of Mines. It is published with a view of meeting some of the needs of the general public, of the ordinary miner, and of the unscientific many, rather than with an idea of offering technical matter for the discussion of the scientific few. The materials are derived from the writer's own researches, and from the most reliable resources available to him, such as the standard text-books and the valuable published reports of the United States Geological Survey. The writer having for a time been connected with that survey, knows full well how high a value is to be attached to those reports, which must remain for all time as a standard of reference for those interested in the geological relations of the mines of Colorado and Western States. The first part of the work contains a rough sketch of general Geology, for the benefit of those who are not familiar with the terms used in this science. The sketch is further applied to the local geology of Colorado. The second part refers to the phenomena of veins and ores, and their surroundings, as illustrated by Colorado. Book Paleocurrents and Basin Analysis

Download or read book Paleocurrents and Basin Analysis written by P. E. Potter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of paleocurrents, since 1963, is now a very routine part of sedimentology, and more and more such studies are finding use in other fields. Thus it seemed appropriate for us to review post-1963 developments and present them in a compact manner for the interested reader. Instead of rewriting a second edition, which thirteen years later we would organize in a completely dif ferent way, we have brought each chapter up to date with new material up to 1976. A new update supplement has in this edition been inserted after each one of the original chapters. We have stayed close to the original theme of paleocurrents-how to measure them and how to use them to solve geological problems ranging in scale from the hand specimen to the sedimentary basin and beyond. We have used many annotated references and tables to help pre sent this information to the reader. The reader will note that we have cited a few 1962 references - pUblications that appeared too late to be cited in the original 1963 edition. A few times we have also cited a reference which was included in the first edition. These are marked with an asterisk and hence do not appear in the new lists of references. We have been aided by many. In Cincinnati, WANDA OSBORNE and JEAN CARROL did typing and RICHARD SPOHN, the University's geological librarian, was very helpful in obtaining many references to the literature.

Book Late Cenozoic Drainage History of the Southwestern Great Basin and Lower Colorado River Region

Download or read book Late Cenozoic Drainage History of the Southwestern Great Basin and Lower Colorado River Region written by Marith C. Reheis and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers in this title were selected from presentations from an April 2005 workshop sponsored by the U.S. Geological Survey Earth Surface Dynamics Program, the U.S. Geological Survey National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, and the Smithsonian Institution. Papers are divided into two broad topics of the configuration, areal extent, and temporal development of the chain of interconnected lakes that emptied into Death Valley during periods of the Pleistocene, and the late Cenozoic history of drainage integration in the lower Colorado River region. Papers are occasionally illustrated in both color and black-and-white; the publication contains no index.
