Book A Revision of the North American Species of Buprestid Beetles Belonging to the Genus Agrilus

Download or read book A Revision of the North American Species of Buprestid Beetles Belonging to the Genus Agrilus written by Warren Samuel Fisher and published by . This book was released on 1928 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present paper is the result of several years' study of the genus Agrilus, and comprises all of the species found in the mainland of American north of Mexico. The task of revising the genus was undertaken because the group is an important one economically, and at the same time has been badly confused. Owing to the extreme variability of the species, erroneous identifications have been many, and the published distribution and host records are in a considerable part incorrect. Fortunately the collection of the United States National Museum, upon which this work is largely based, is rich in reared series of many of the species. On hundred and seventeen species and 8 subspecies or varieties are treated in this paper, of which 27 species and 2 subspecies are described as new.

Book Biology of Chrysomelidae

    Book Details:
  • Author : P. Jolivet
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9400931050
  • Pages : 624 pages

Download or read book Biology of Chrysomelidae written by P. Jolivet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As in most groups of insects, scientific research on the Chrysomelidae began in Europe in 1758, with the description of a few genera and species by the Scandinavian entomologists C. von Linne, I.C. Fabricius, and others. As the 19th century dawned, many systematic entomologists took up the study of chrysomelid beetles, together with other groups of beetles, and many new species and genera were described from all parts of the world. This trend has, of course, continued down to the present time. However, researches on the Chrysomelidae did not remain restricted to systematics, and many new lines of study have been followed, especially in the present century, by workers who have benefitted from the advances made in related fields of pure and applied entomology. Much has been achieved in the study of the Chrysomelidae, as elsewhere, and it is the aim of the present book to provide a summary and guide to these achievements. It is also to be expected that this book will provide a stimulus for further studies on the Chrysomelidae, so that we can anticipate continuing progress in our knowledge and understanding of this group through the endeavours of an ever-increasing number of scientists. I offer my congratulations to all concerned in the preparation of this book and my best wishes for its success.
