Also noteworthy was the assistance of the Advisory Council on Federal Reports, which through special panels of industry experts advised on the feasibility of collecting various types of data. Timely publicity was given to the census by Chambers of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers and other business groups, trade papers, local newspapers, and television and radio stations. Book Adverse Impact Analysis

Download or read book Adverse Impact Analysis written by Scott B. Morris and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compliance with federal equal employment opportunity regulations, including civil rights laws and affirmative action requirements, requires collection and analysis of data on disparities in employment outcomes, often referred to as adverse impact. While most human resources (HR) practitioners are familiar with basic adverse impact analysis, the courts and regulatory agencies are increasingly relying on more sophisticated methods to assess disparities. Employment data are often complicated, and can include a broad array of employment actions (e.g., selection, pay, promotion, termination), as well as data that span multiple protected groups, settings, and points in time. In the era of "big data," the HR analyst often has access to larger and more complex data sets relevant to employment disparities. Consequently, an informed HR practitioner needs a richer understanding of the issues and methods for conducting disparity analyses. This book brings together the diverse literature on disparity analysis, spanning work from statistics, industrial/organizational psychology, human resource management, labor economics, and law, to provide a comprehensive and integrated summary of current best practices in the field. Throughout, the description of methods is grounded in the legal context and current trends in employment litigation and the practices of federal regulatory agencies. The book provides guidance on all phases of disparity analysis, including: How to structure diverse and complex employment data for disparity analysis How to conduct both basic and advanced statistical analyses on employment outcomes related to employee selection, promotion, compensation, termination, and other employment outcomes How to interpret results in terms of both practical and statistical significance Common practical challenges and pitfalls in disparity analysis and strategies to deal with these issues

Book United States Census of Manufactures 1954 Vol 1

Download or read book United States Census of Manufactures 1954 Vol 1 written by United States Bureau Of The Census and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-08-30 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from United States Census of Manufactures, 1954, Vol. 1: Summary Statistics; Subject Matter Summaries of Statistics for Industries and Geographic Areas As in the 1947 Census and subsequent Annual Surveys, 1954 man-hours data were requested by quarter for the calendar year, on the basis of 1947 Census pretests. These pretests indicated that quarterly data could be reported more readily than either monthly or annual data. The man hours figures issued by the Census differ from those published monthly by the Bureau of Labor Statistics which cover all hours paid for, whether or not worked, and relate only to the payroll period ending nearest the middle of each month. The 1954 Census definition of man-hours all man-hours at the plant, including stand-by hours paid for) is a clarification, without altering the desired concept, of the 1947 definition which simply called for all man-hours worked. Man-hours were generally well reported except in the case of small establishments which, as in the 1947 Census, experienced some difficulty in distinguishing between production and other types of workers, and except for some industries like apparel where work is commonly performed on a piece rate basis. Where man-hours were not reported and it was not feasible to obtain the information by correspondence, the data were estimated. Because this estimating was largely confined to small establish ments, there is no significant qualification to the validity of overall industry and geographic area totals for man-hours, ex cept for sawmills and a few other industries characterized by small establishments or by other limitations in their record keeping affecting the reporting of man-hour information. How ever, the man hour figures for establishments with fewer than 10 employees, shown in the Size of Establishment chapter of the Summary Volume, should. Be interpreted with this factor in mind.
