Book The ISRM Suggested Methods for Rock Characterization Testing and Monitoring 2007 2014

Download or read book The ISRM Suggested Methods for Rock Characterization Testing and Monitoring 2007 2014 written by R. Ulusay and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-25 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of ISRM suggested methods for testing or measuring properties of rocks and rock masses both in the laboratory and in situ, as well as for monitoring the performance of rock engineering structures. The first collection (Yellow Book) has been published in 1981. In order to provide access to all the Suggested Methods in one volume, the ISRM Blue Book was published in 2007 (by the ISRM via the Turkish National Group) and contains the complete set of Suggested Methods from 1974 to 2006 inclusive. The papers in this most recent volume have been published during the last seven years in international journals, mainly in Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering. They offer guidance for rock characterization procedures and laboratory and field testing and monitoring in rock engineering. These methods provide a definitive procedure for the identification, measurement and evaluation of one or more qualities, characteristics or properties of rocks or rock systems that produces a test result.

Book Correlations of Soil and Rock Properties in Geotechnical Engineering

Download or read book Correlations of Soil and Rock Properties in Geotechnical Engineering written by Jay Ameratunga and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-11 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a one-stop reference to the empirical correlations used extensively in geotechnical engineering. Empirical correlations play a key role in geotechnical engineering designs and analysis. Laboratory and in situ testing of soils can add significant cost to a civil engineering project. By using appropriate empirical correlations, it is possible to derive many design parameters, thus limiting our reliance on these soil tests. The authors have decades of experience in geotechnical engineering, as professional engineers or researchers. The objective of this book is to present a critical evaluation of a wide range of empirical correlations reported in the literature, along with typical values of soil parameters, in the light of their experience and knowledge. This book will be a one-stop-shop for the practising professionals, geotechnical researchers and academics looking for specific correlations for estimating certain geotechnical parameters. The empirical correlations in the forms of equations and charts and typical values are collated from extensive literature review, and from the authors' database.

Book Suggested Method of Test for Direct Shear Strength of Rock Core Specimens

Download or read book Suggested Method of Test for Direct Shear Strength of Rock Core Specimens written by JD. Kenty and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This method covers the determination of the direct shear strength of rock core specimens up to 6 in. in diameter. A minimum of three test specimens of any one rock type are subjected to different normal stresses during the shearing process. For each type of rock, cohesion and an angle of internal friction are determined. The principle of rock core direct shearing is illustrated schematically in Fig. 1.

Book Suggested Method of Test for In Situ Shear Strength of Rock

Download or read book Suggested Method of Test for In Situ Shear Strength of Rock written by RK. Dodds and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The desirability of knowing the in place shearing resistance of rock under load has been recognized for years. This has led to many attempts to make in situ block shear tests with various degrees of success. Three types of tests have been most often attempted: single-frame block shear with parallel loads, single-frame block shear with inclined loads, and double-frame block shear with parallel loads. Of these the latter seems to have the most possibility of success. A suggested in situ shear test procedure is included with the paper.

Book Assessing Shear Strength of Unsaturated Soil Using Non Experiment Methods

Download or read book Assessing Shear Strength of Unsaturated Soil Using Non Experiment Methods written by Joseph Kariuki and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2022-02-28 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2022 in the subject Engineering - Mining Engineering, , language: English, abstract: This study used non-experimental approaches to evaluate the shear strength of unsaturated soil. Numerous reasons exist for considering non-experimental approaches acceptable for determining the shear strength of unsaturated soils. One of the primary reasons why non-experimental techniques might be regarded a viable option is because performing tests to determine the shear soils is a complicated and time-consuming operation. Typically, the technique entails a number of operations that need specialized equipment and the execution of methodical stages. If the findings are required quickly, the time necessary to obtain them might be harmful to the entire operation. Due to the fact that engineering processes frequently need fast results, experimental approaches may not be effective in certain circumstances.

Book In Situ Tests for the Determination of Rock Mass Shear Strength

Download or read book In Situ Tests for the Determination of Rock Mass Shear Strength written by Timothy W. Zeigler and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rock shear strength is often determined from in situ tests. Many cases have been reported in the literature describing in situ shear test procedures and test results. The purpose of this report is to summarize this information for guidance in planning and evaluating such tests. The types of tests discussed are: direct shear test, Triaxial or multiaxial test, torsion shear test, and pull-out test. The direct shear test is most widely used, and some 48 case histories of such tests are summarized in Appendixes A through E. The main advantage of the direct shear test is the ability to measure the shear resistance in any desired direction along potentially critical discontinuities. The test is also popular due to its adaptability to field conditions; tests can be conducted in trenches, adits, tunnels, and even calyx drill holes. (Author).
