Book excerpt: Tighter, he commanded. Let us feel those walls, Sugar. My dad told me about a special club that he belongs to called Dads and Daughters. It sounded perfect to me because after my mom died, Jack and I were all alone. What better way to form a great connection with my dad? But he tells me there’s something *different* about this club. And when I find out, I’m shocked and thrilled! After all, the dads are all long-haul truckers who need relief. The daughters are sweet young things who provide that relief. But am I ready to meet my match as part of this forbidden group? Because two men want me, and I won’t say no … The sassy girl gets a taste of sugar as the saga of Dads and Daughters continues. Girl Scouts, these women are not. Instead, they’re filthy, feisty, and as fun as you can get! Swords do not cross in this book because the story is all about HER. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and always an HEA for my readers.

Book Queer Reflections on AI

Download or read book Queer Reflections on AI written by Michael Klipphahn-Karge and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-17 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers a socio-technical exploration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the way it reflects and reproduces certain normative representations of gender and sexuality, to ultimately guide more diverse and radical discussions of life with digital technologies. Moving beyond the examination of empirical examples and technical solutions, the book approaches the relationship between queerness and AI from a theoretical perspective that posits queer theory as central to understanding AI differently. The chapters pose questions about the politics and ethics of machine embodiments and data imaginaries on the one hand, and about technical possibilities for a production of social identities characterised by shifting diversity and multiplicity on the other, as they are mediated by and through digital technologies. Transgressing disciplinary boundaries to engage a diversity of conceptual tools, critical approaches, and theoretical traditions, this book will be an important resource for students and researchers of gender and sexuality, new media and digital cultures, cultural theory, art and visual culture, and AI. Book excerpt: Here is the first comprehensive book that covers Prince’s forty-plus personal and professional years in and out of the public spotlight. Firmly grounded in a detailed chronological overview of Prince’s prodigious released and unreleased recorded musical output and epic live performances, Prince FAQ: All That’s Left to Know About the Purple Reign digs deep into Purple fact and legend as it explores the multiple number-one singles, the movie hits and flops, the exclusive and adventurous after shows, and the provocative TV appearances. But more than just a look at the music and moving images, this volume also highlights Prince’s relationship with those in the Purple Court—the Revolution, New Power Generation, Third Eye Girl and other band members, his musical influences (from Santana to Stevie to the Stones), the countless individual (Christopher Tracy) and group aliases (Madhouse), protégés (Carmen Electra), the cover artists (the Bangles) and recovery projects (Mavis Staples), and the wives, lovers, and multiple ingénues. And then there are the controversies—the rivalries with Rick James and Michael Jackson, the USA for Africa snub, the questions surrounding his untimely death, the fate of countless unreleased audio and video projects, and, of course, his battle against Warner Bros. and the music industry that caused him to change his name to an unpronounceable symbol. Accompanied by dozens of rare images, Prince FAQ is the go-to volume for all things Prince.

Book High Voltage

Download or read book High Voltage written by Jeff Apter and published by Chicago Review Press. This book was released on 2018-04-01 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Angus Young, the founder and the last original member of AC/DC still in the band, has for more than 40 years been the face, sound and sometimes the exposed backside of the trailblazing rock band. In his trademark schoolboy outfit, guitar in hand, Angus has given his signature sound to songs such as "A Long Way to the Top," "Highway to Hell" and "Back in Black," helping AC/DC become the biggest rock band on the planet. High Voltage tells of his remarkable rise from working-class Glasgow and Sydney to the biggest stages in the world. The youngest of eight kids, Angus always seemed destined for a life in music, and it was his passion and determination that saw AC/DC become hard rock's greatest act. Over the years, Angus has endured the devastating death of iconic vocalist Bon Scott, the forced retirement of his brother in arms Malcolm Young and more recently the loss from the band of singer Brian Johnson and drummer Phil Rudd. Yet somehow the little guitar maestro has kept AC/DC not just on the rails, but at the top of the rock pile.

Book The Real South

Download or read book The Real South written by Scott Romine and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2008-06-01 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this stimulating study, Scott Romine explores the impact of globalization on contemporary southern culture and the South's persistence in an age of media and what he terms "cultural reproduction." Rather than being compromised, Romine asserts, southern cultures are both complicated and reconfigured as they increasingly detach from tradition in its conventional sense. In considering Souths that might appear fake -- the Souths of the theme restaurant, commercial television, and popular regional magazines, for example -- Romine contends that authenticity and reality emerge as central concepts that allow groups and individuals to imagine and navigate social worlds. Romine addresses a major critical problem -- "authenticity" -- in a fundamentally new manner. Less concerned with what actually constitutes an "authentic" or "real" South than in how these concepts are used today, The Real South explores a wide range of southern narratives that describe and travel through virtual, simulated, and commodified Souths. Where earlier critics have tended to assume a real or authentic South, Romine questions such assumptions and whether the "authentic South" ever truly existed. From Gone with the Wind, Civil War reenactments, and a tennis community outside Atlanta called Tara, to the work of Josephine Humphreys, the travel narrative of V. S. Naipaul, and the historical fiction of Lewis Nordan, Romine examines how narratives (and spaces) are used to fashion social solidarity and cultural continuity in a time of fragmentation and change. Far from deteriorating or disappearing in a global economy, Romine shows, the South continues to be reproduced and used by diverse groups engaged in diverse cultural projects.
