Book Success Internationally The Important Dispositions You ll Need for Thriving Abroad

Download or read book Success Internationally The Important Dispositions You ll Need for Thriving Abroad written by Steve Carber and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the dispositions of people who work successfully in an international milieu? This guiding question serves to unify the themes of the book, and each chapter hearkens to it. Sub-questions include "how can these dispositions be taught and assessed, both to youth and to adults?" This book helps prepare readers for even greater success in international milieus or expatriate assignments. In discussing positive dispositions such as open-mindedness, adaptability, and flexibility, the authors are implicitly addressing self-improvement, though not in the style of a self-help book. The book is forward-minded about preparing today's students, young professionals, and fellow citizens for a world that does not yet exist but that we know will be increasingly international.

Book Educating for Global Competence Preparing Our Youth to Engage the World

Download or read book Educating for Global Competence Preparing Our Youth to Engage the World written by Veronica Mansilla and published by . This book was released on 2011-12-13 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary societies are marked by new global trends-economic, cultural, technological, and environmental shifts that are part of a rapid and uneven wave of globalization. The growing global interdependence that characterizes our time calls for a generation of individuals who can engage in effective global problem solving and participate simultaneously in local, national, and global civic life. Put simply, preparing our students to participate fully in today's and tomorrow's world demands that we nurture their global competence. This document introduces a definition of global competence developed by the Global Competence Task Force-a group of state education agency leaders, education scholars, and practitioners-under the auspices of the Council of Chief State School Officers EdSteps initiative (CCSSO-EdSteps) and the Asia Society Partnership for Global Learning (see page (iv) for task force participants). The definition builds on seminal work within the states and a broad range of organizations working to advance global knowledge and critical thinking skills. A process of careful articulation and vetting yielded the definition of global competence here proposed:Global competence is the capacity and disposition to understand and act on issues of global significance.Globally competent individuals are aware, curious, and interested in learning about the world and how it works. They can use the big ideas, tools, methods, and languages that are central to any discipline (mathematics, literature, history, science, and the arts) to engage the pressing issues of our time. They deploy and develop this expertise as they investigate such issues, recognizing multiple perspectives, communicating their views effectively, and taking action to improve conditions. This publication of CCSSO and the Asia Society Partnership for Global Learning puts forward a new definition for global competence and explores how to infuse the capacities of global competence into the classroom and into policy.

Book Becoming a Globally Competent Teacher

Download or read book Becoming a Globally Competent Teacher written by Ariel Tichnor-Wagner and published by ASCD. This book was released on 2019-07-24 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teachers today must prepare students for an increasingly complex, interconnected, and interdependent world. Being a globally competent teacher requires embracing a mindset that translates personal global competence into professional classroom practice. It is a vision of equitable teaching and learning that enables students to thrive in an ever-changing world. This thought-provoking book introduces a proven self-reflection tool to help educators of all grade levels and content areas develop 12 elements of such teaching. The book is divided into three sections: dispositions, knowledge, and skills. Each chapter is devoted to an element of globally competent teaching and includes a description of that element, tips for implementation delineated by developmental levels, and links to additional resources for continuing the journey. Examples of globally competent teaching practices include - Empathy and valuing multiple perspectives. - A commitment to promoting equity worldwide. - An understanding of global conditions and current events. - The ability to engage in intercultural communication. - A classroom environment that values diversity and global engagement. Throughout, you'll also find examples of these practices at work from real teachers in real schools. No matter what your experience with global teaching, the information in this book will help you further develop your practice as a global educator—a teacher who prepares students not only for academic success but also for a life in which they are active participants in their own communities and the wider world.

Book Handbook of Research on the Educator Continuum and Development of Teachers

Download or read book Handbook of Research on the Educator Continuum and Development of Teachers written by Zugelder, Bryan S. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2022-06-24 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of recent sociological events and the COVID-19 pandemic, education has undergone an incredible change in both policy and delivery. As a result, many educators have sought different career paths. It is essential to maintain a concentrated effort to retain educators; however, recruiting teachers into the profession is only one area of focus; there must be intentional support for teacher development along the educator continuum in order to sustain the profession through institutional struggles. The Handbook of Research on the Educator Continuum and Development of Teachers expands on the body of research related to the educator continuum with a holistic view of teacher development. This book combines theory, concepts, and research studies that pinpoint facets of the educator continuum, providing researchers with scholarly contributions that advance the profession. Covering topics such as instructional coaching, special educator career development, and teacher retention, this major reference work is a valuable resource for educational faculty and administration, teacher colleges, educators of K-12 and higher education, pre-service teachers, government officials, teacher education administrators, libraries, researchers, and academicians.

Book Mathematics for Human Flourishing

Download or read book Mathematics for Human Flourishing written by Francis Su and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The ancient Greeks argued that the best life was filled with beauty, truth, justice, play and love. The mathematician Francis Su knows just where to find them."--Kevin Hartnett, Quanta Magazine" This is perhaps the most important mathematics book of our time. Francis Su shows mathematics is an experience of the mind and, most important, of the heart."--James Tanton, Global Math Project For mathematician Francis Su, a society without mathematical affection is like a city without concerts, parks, or museums. To miss out on mathematics is to live without experiencing some of humanity's most beautiful ideas. In this profound book, written for a wide audience but especially for those disenchanted by their past experiences, an award-winning mathematician and educator weaves parables, puzzles, and personal reflections to show how mathematics meets basic human desires--such as for play, beauty, freedom, justice, and love--and cultivates virtues essential for human flourishing. These desires and virtues, and the stories told here, reveal how mathematics is intimately tied to being human. Some lessons emerge from those who have struggled, including philosopher Simone Weil, whose own mathematical contributions were overshadowed by her brother's, and Christopher Jackson, who discovered mathematics as an inmate in a federal prison. Christopher's letters to the author appear throughout the book and show how this intellectual pursuit can--and must--be open to all.
