The author develops a comprehensive regional success factor model, by which the effects of regional management autonomy and regional product and service adaptation on the regional success of MNCs as well as the interaction effects of regional orientation and inter-regional distance are investigated. The model is evaluated by means of the partial-least-squares (PLS) method on the basis of a survey-based inquiry of the Fortune Global 500 firms with success indicator data for a period of nine years. The findings highlight the importance of considering the different degrees of contextual influence in the design of regional strategies, where low degrees of regional management autonomy and high levels of regional product/service adaptation are found to be appropriate for MNCs to be regionally successful.

Based on contingency theory, we develop a comprehensive regional success factor model to investigate the effects of regional management autonomy and regional product/service adaptation on the regional success of MNCs. Using structural equation modelling, we also analyse the interaction effects of regional orientation and inter-regional distance. We evaluate our model by means of both primary and secondary data for Fortune Global 500 firms. Our findings show that appropriate degrees of regional management autonomy and regional product/service adaptation are highly contingent upon contextual influences on MNCs.

Indeed, over the last twenty years, the key features of globalization provide prima facie evidence for this conventional wisdom. Book excerpt: This thesis analyzes the motivation and performance of 403 acquisitions made by emerging multinational corporations (EMNCs) in Western Europe and North America between 1994 and 2013. The findings indicate that most EMNCs were motivated to acquire in order to obtain access to the upstream and downstream know-how of their target firms. In addition, the thesis' event study results demonstrate that EMNCs on average generated value for their shareholders with their acquisitions over short periods around acquisition announcement. This result is particularly significant since similar studies on buying firms from developed markets have frequently come to the conclusion that acquirers destroy shareholder value.

Using acombination of multivariate models, the responses from 211 Europeancompanies to a questionnaire are analysed and typologies derived.Among the single factors, customer participation, the transfer ofmanagerial and market-related experience and the main motivation arethe most important ones for the Spin-Off process and its success. Thetypologies reveal characteristic factors sets, showing for examplethat high-growth Spin-Offs benefited over-proportionally from sectorgrowth or the access to relations with customers or suppliers. Thisproduces a new and comprehensive perspective on the relativecontribution of each success factor, their interaction, and thebehaviour of both the parentand the Spin-Off companies in theprocess. These results are highly valuable for managers, scientists inthe field and policy-makers.

A lead market is defined as a country that adopts an innovation that is subsequently adopted worldwide. When different designs of an innovation compete internationally, the design preferred in the lead market becomes the global dominant design. The study suggests a theoretical explanation for the phenomena of lead markets and collects empirical evidence from a detailed case study of the cellular mobile tele of an innovation design adopted first phone industry. Reviewing existing empirical work on comparable innovations, Patrick Planing derives potential acceptance constructs, which together with the results of thirty-two semi-structured interviews, have constituted the basis for a survey instrument that was consequently administered to a sample of over 400 participants from the target population. The resulting regression model shows that perceived safety and comfort benefits are most decisive for the acceptance of ADAS, while desire to exert control was found to most strongly support resistance to this technology.
