Book Success Factors in Project Management and Their Relevance for Corporate Development

Download or read book Success Factors in Project Management and Their Relevance for Corporate Development written by Anton Deiring and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-11-10 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, Steinbeis University Berlin (Institut eBusiness & Management), course: Business Administration, language: English, abstract: The aim of this study is to show how - from a scientific point of view - projects should be planned and implemented so that the failures that often occur in practice can be avoided. The company's success can thus be increased by significantly increasing the number of successful projects. In addition, by promoting the project culture in the company and by shaping the corporate strategy accordingly, the company's development can be further improved. First, it is explained what is understood as a project in modern business life - both from a business and a technical point of view - and what the tasks of project management are. This also makes it clear which projects are not projects and should therefore be rejected from a project management point of view in order to avoid project failures right from the start. After these prerequisites have been clarified, the comprehensive and correct implementation of project management for a project is shown in all important facets. All essential steps of a correct project implementation are presented in the correct chronological sequence. By comparing this approach with failed projects, the reason for failure can often be easily and quickly identified. Doing the things right", i.e. the correct management of projects, is demonstrated. Differences in the internationally used project management methods are also discussed. Building on this, the next step is to explain how multi-project management should be sensibly carried out with a large number of projects running in parallel in a company and integrated into the corporate strategy. In this way, corporate development can be shaped through management by projects.

Book Project Management a New Mindset for Success

Download or read book Project Management a New Mindset for Success written by Wenche Aarseth and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are some project managers successful in spotting global opportunities and gaining the trust of important stakeholders, while others mismanage them and fail? The findings presented in this book, from interviews conducted with hundreds of project managers and project team members, suggest the answer could lie in the project managers' attitudes and mindsets. A new mindset was found to be critical to gain success, and although the development of a new mindset does not happen overnight, this book will help direct project managers, project workers, and project-based companies along the way. The terms 'business mindset' and 'global mindset' refer to how project managers see their projects in a collaborative context - both a collaborative business context and a collaborative global context - and how this affects their attitude and actions. Projects are often initiated for business reasons, and, for companies operating projects on a global scale, the development of their project managers' business and global mindsets becomes highly relevant. The book will guide readers through some of these challenges in order to be better prepared for new business in a global environment. It also suggests some ideas for solutions to the challenges and provides a thorough understanding of important success factors in projects. [Subject: Project Management, Business]

Book Megaproject Management

Download or read book Megaproject Management written by Edoardo Favari and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-20 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book investigates the various aspects characterizing Megaprojects from numerous perspectives and by integrating different disciplines: engineering, economics, business organization, human resource management, law, etc. It represents the first output of MeRIT (the Megaproject Research Interdisciplinary Team), and focuses on the intrinsic and unavoidable complexity of Megaprojects. The chapters have intentionally not been standardized, and humanistic topics are not separated from technical ones: this way of reading and interpreting Megaprojects through the cross-pollination of various disciplines reflects the MeRIT approach. Addressing the complexity involved in Megaprojects requires the use of a hermeneutic circle of sorts: understanding the project as a whole is achieved by referring to the specific parts, while each part can only be understood in relation to the whole. This circular approach appears to be the only one applicable to Megaprojects: no final destination, no final synthesis can be achieved. This volume consists of eight chapters written by researchers in law, economics, sociology, business organization, engineering, architecture and landscaping. The topics covered will be relevant to researchers, practitioners involved in the development of Megaprojects, and policymakers at the EU level.

Book Success Factors in Project Management Literature Review

Download or read book Success Factors in Project Management Literature Review written by Seweryn Spalek and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Projects are widely recognized nowadays by organizations. They are part of the activities of both education providers and companies. Project management has been applied in organizations since the 1960's. However, despite garnering experience and improving on available methods, a significant number of projects (including educational ones) still fail. According to the Gartner Group's world-wide research, the percentage of unsuccessful projects (failed and challenged) as of the year 2012 was 61%. Therefore, the question, “what drives the success of the project?”, remains a fresh issue. Researchers thus undertake to continuously narrow this knowledge gap. However, as the issue is a complex one, many ideas, concepts and pieces of advice are given. In the article, based on the literature review, different approaches to projects' success are presented, discussed and systemized. The factors influencing the success of projects are identified and presented in the following areas: (1) applied methods, (2) people in projects, (3) and organizational context. Method-related issues are about utilizing tools and techniques in project management. Moreover, they cover the application of global standards while managing the projects. The discussion on the influence of the people involved in the project is not limited to human resources only. Widely recognized and fresh ideas of the Stakeholder Management concept are discussed as well. Last, but not least, the issue of the organizational context in which the projects are executed is emphasized. This matter is of high importance nowadays as the complexity and the number of managed projects has increased significantly within the last twenty years. Furthermore, the author outlines some characteristics related to the different types of projects and their associated success factors. Some advice for practitioners is given on what kind of action should be undertaken to increase the success of projects. The findings of this article can be of special interest to managers of any type of projects, including international ones where Stakeholder Management and organizational issues tend to play an important role in project success.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern project management is increasingly important, as it is very well suited for fulfilling today’s demands on companies, especially regarding the efficient cooperation of individuals, as well as the development of a goal- and solution-oriented approach. A project can be understood as a temporary company, since all essential enterprise management functions must be performed in projects as well. The project management approach applied in the present book is a holistic management concept. In addition to project planning and control, it also covers the topics of teamwork, communication, and the organizational integration of projects into companies. This book provides a guideline for performing individual projects, for professionally selecting projects that are vital for company success (project portfolio, program), for improving project management quality, and for consequently focusing company work on the current environmental requirements (project-oriented company). Additionally, numerous practical examples and case-studies of different project types illustrate the implementation of the presented methods. Further relevant aspects of today’s project management approaches, such as projects as business cases, procurement and contract design, virtual teamwork, project management career paths, agile project management, or Stage-Gate approaches are integrated into the actual edition. This book contributes to the further development of project management knowledge, and to the establishment of a professional project manager profile. Requirements on competencies and qualifications of project managers are integrated according to the international IPMA and PMI standards.

In this enlightening book Emanuel Camilleri examines the key factors bearing on perceived success or failure. This book is not just about project management, it goes much deeper into the topic of project success by prescribing a project success framework. In chapters dedicated to factors such as leadership, teams, communication, information management and risk management, the author shines a light on the key behaviours in which project managers and others engage and how those behaviours predict success or failure.
