Download or read book Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data written by and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CI/ASCE Standard 38-02 presents a credible system for classifying the quality of utility location information that is placed in design plans. The Standard addresses issues such as: how utility information can be obtained, what technologies are available to obtain that information; how that information can be conveyed to the information users; who should be responsible for typical collection and depiction tasks; what factors determine which utility quality level attribute to assign to data; and what the relative costs and benefits of the various quality levels are. Used as a reference or as part of a specification, the Standard will assist engineers, project and utility owners, and constructors in developing strategies to reduce risk by improving the reliability of information on existing subsurface utilities in a defined manner.

Download or read book Subsurface Utility Engineering Information Management for Airports written by James H. Anspach and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis study is intended to provide airport operators, airport service providers, and utilities/infrastructure owners with ways in which information on subsurface utilities is collected, maintained, and used by airports, their consultants, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to increase the effectiveness of and enhance safety during infrastructure development programs at airports. It compares the current state of technology and effective processes from other industry sectors with what airports do today, allowing airports to consider areas for improvement. To gather relevant information on current practices, literature was reviewed and 16 airports were surveyed.

Download or read book Pipelines 2011 written by American Society of Civil Engineers and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2011-07-22 with total page 1500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proceedings of the Pipelines 2011 Conference, held in Seattle, Washington, July 23-27, 2011. Sponsored by the Pipeline Division of ASCE. This collection contains 135 peer-reviewed technical papers that discuss new solutions to some of the most critical infrastructure issues involving pipelines. The U.S. water and wastewater infrastructure systems are continuing to deteriorate. The recent economic downturn has increased the gap between current and required levels of funding. These serious financial constraints highlight the urgent need for creative and innovative solutions to improve our water and wastewater infrastructure systems. From the technical perspective, cost effective materials, proper planning, new design methods, innovative construction technologies, and advanced condition assessment technologies must be more aggressively developed, tested, and introduced to the industry. From the management perspective, optimal use of financial resources, smart and carefully crafted decision making processes on maintenance, rehabilitation and replacement activities must be made available, applied by and used by water and wastewater infrastructure agencies.

Download or read book Effective Utility Coordination written by Roy Sturgill and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 506: Effective Utility Coordination: Application of Research and Current Practices documents the state of the practice regarding utility coordination. The objective of the project was to determine how previous research has been incorporated into current practice and compile information about how transportation agencies and utility stakeholders are scoping, conducting, and managing effective utility coordination. The report documents the core elements of effective utility coordination, as reported by state transportation agencies (STAs); current practices to manage consultant-led utility coordination, both stand-alone and those incorporated into design contracts; and current practices to perform in-house utility coordination.

Download or read book Intermediate Offshore Foundations written by Steve Kay and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intermediate foundations are used as anchors for floating platforms and ancillary structures, foundations for steel jackets, and to support seafloor equipment and offshore wind turbines. When installed by suction, they are an economical alternative to piling, and also may be completely removed. They are usually circular in plan and are essentially rigid when laterally loaded. Length to diameter embedment ratios, L/D, generally vary between 0.5 and 10, spanning the gap between shallow and deep foundations, although these are indicative boundaries and the response, rather than the embedment ratio, defines an intermediate foundation. The first chapters introduce foundation types; compare shallow, intermediate and deep foundation models and design; define unique design issues that make intermediate foundations distinct from shallow and deep foundations, as well as list their hazards that mainly occur during installation. Later chapters cover installation, in-place resistance and in-place response, and miscellaneous design considerations. There is no general agreement as to which design methods/models are appropriate, so models should only be as accurate as the data. Therefore, several reasonably accurate models are provided together with comprehensive discussion and advice. Example calculations and over 200 references are also included. This is the first book dedicated to the geotechnical design of intermediate foundations, and it will appeal to professional engineers specialising in the offshore industry.

Book excerpt: The revision of this best-selling text for a junior/senior course in Foundation Analysis and Design now includes an IBM computer disk containing 16 compiled programs together with the data sets used to produce the output sheets, as well as new material on sloping ground, pile and pile group analysis, and procedures for an improved anlysis of lateral piles. Bearing capacity analysis has been substantially revised for footings with horizontal as well as vertical loads. Footing design for overturning now incorporates the use of the same uniform linear pressure concept used in ascertaining the bearing capacity. Increased emphasis is placed on geotextiles for retaining walls and soil nailing.
