Download or read book Subsurface Utility Engineering Information Management for Airports written by James H. Anspach and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis study is intended to provide airport operators, airport service providers, and utilities/infrastructure owners with ways in which information on subsurface utilities is collected, maintained, and used by airports, their consultants, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to increase the effectiveness of and enhance safety during infrastructure development programs at airports. It compares the current state of technology and effective processes from other industry sectors with what airports do today, allowing airports to consider areas for improvement. To gather relevant information on current practices, literature was reviewed and 16 airports were surveyed.

Book Learning Engineering Practice

Download or read book Learning Engineering Practice written by James Trevelyan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-01-14 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains engineering practice, what engineers actually do in their work. The first part explains how to find paid engineering work and prepare for an engineering career. The second part explains the fundamentals of engineering practice, including how to gain access to technical knowledge, how to gain the willing collaboration of other people to make things happen, and how to work safely in hazardous environments. Other chapters explain engineering aspects of project management missed in most courses, how to create commercial value from engineering work and estimate costs, and how to navigate cultural complexities successfully. Later chapters provide guidance on sustainability, time management and avoiding the most common frustrations encountered by engineers at work. This book has been written for engineering students, graduates and novice engineers. Supervisors, mentors and human resources professionals will also find the book helpful to guide early-career engineers and assess their progress. Engineering schools will find the book helpful to help students prepare for professional internships and also for creating authentic practice and assessment exercises.

Book Basics of Civil Engineering

Download or read book Basics of Civil Engineering written by Dr. Mukul Burghate and published by mukul burghate. This book was released on with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering has been an aspect of life since the beginnings of human existence. The earliest practice of civil engineering may have commenced between 4000 and 2000 BC in ancient Egypt, the Indus Valley civilization, and Mesopotamia (ancient Iraq) when humans started to abandon a nomadic existence, creating a need for the construction of shelter. During this time, transportation became increasingly important leading to the development of the wheel and sailing. Civil engineering is the application of physical and scientific principles for solving the problems of society, and its history is intricately linked to advances in the understanding of physics and mathematics throughout history. Because civil engineering is a broad profession, including several specialized sub-disciplines, its history is linked to knowledge of structures, materials science, geography, geology, soils, hydrology, environmental science, mechanics, project management, and other fields. Throughout ancient and medieval history most architectural design and construction was carried out by artisans, such as stonemasons and carpenters, rising to the role of master builder. Knowledge was retained in guilds and seldom supplanted by advances. Structures, roads, and infrastructure that existed were repetitive, and increases in scale were incremental. The purpose of this textbook is to present an introduction to the subject of Basics of Civil Engineering of Bachelor of Engineering ( BE) Semester - I. The book contains the syllabus from basics of the subjects going into the intricacies of the subjects. Students are now required to solve minimum Four ( 4 ) Assignments based on the Syllabus. Each topic is followed by Assignment Questions which now forms the compulsory part of internal assessment. All the concepts have been explained with relevant examples and diagrams to make i t interesting for the readers. An attempt is made here by the experts of TMC to assist the students by way of providing Study text as per the curriculum with non - commercial considerations. We owe to many websites and their free contents; we would like to specially acknowledge contents of website www. wikipedia. com and various authors whose writings formed the basis for this book. We acknowledge our thanks to them. At the end we would l ike to say that there is always a room for improvement in whatever we do. We would appreciate any suggestions regarding this study material f rom the readers so that the contents can be made more interesting and meaningful. Readers can email their queries and doubts to [email protected]. We shall be glad to help you immediately. Dr. Mukul Burghate Author

Book Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data

Download or read book Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data written by and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CI/ASCE Standard 38-02 presents a credible system for classifying the quality of utility location information that is placed in design plans. The Standard addresses issues such as: how utility information can be obtained, what technologies are available to obtain that information; how that information can be conveyed to the information users; who should be responsible for typical collection and depiction tasks; what factors determine which utility quality level attribute to assign to data; and what the relative costs and benefits of the various quality levels are. Used as a reference or as part of a specification, the Standard will assist engineers, project and utility owners, and constructors in developing strategies to reduce risk by improving the reliability of information on existing subsurface utilities in a defined manner.

Book Subsurface Utility Engineering A Feasibility Study and Guideline for Naval Facilities Engineering Command

Download or read book Subsurface Utility Engineering A Feasibility Study and Guideline for Naval Facilities Engineering Command written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a general consensus among engineers and facility managers of military installations that the utility records and as-built drawings are of poor quality and/or inaccurate. The goal of verifying the location of all underground utilities before commencement of a construction project is usually unachievable. During the early stages of a construction project, an unknown subsurface utility is often discovered which results in a contract modification and an increased price of the project. Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is an engineering discipline used to designate and verify the location of underground utilities and other obstructions. SUE is not a new technology although it has made significant advances in recent years, including the development and adoption of ASCE Standard Guideline 38-02. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), metal detectors and other designating devices are used in conjunction with vacuum excavators to verify the horizontal and vertical position of the utility.
