Book Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data

Download or read book Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data written by and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CI/ASCE Standard 38-02 presents a credible system for classifying the quality of utility location information that is placed in design plans. The Standard addresses issues such as: how utility information can be obtained, what technologies are available to obtain that information; how that information can be conveyed to the information users; who should be responsible for typical collection and depiction tasks; what factors determine which utility quality level attribute to assign to data; and what the relative costs and benefits of the various quality levels are. Used as a reference or as part of a specification, the Standard will assist engineers, project and utility owners, and constructors in developing strategies to reduce risk by improving the reliability of information on existing subsurface utilities in a defined manner.

Book Subsurface Utility Engineering Information Management for Airports

Download or read book Subsurface Utility Engineering Information Management for Airports written by James H. Anspach and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis study is intended to provide airport operators, airport service providers, and utilities/infrastructure owners with ways in which information on subsurface utilities is collected, maintained, and used by airports, their consultants, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to increase the effectiveness of and enhance safety during infrastructure development programs at airports. It compares the current state of technology and effective processes from other industry sectors with what airports do today, allowing airports to consider areas for improvement. To gather relevant information on current practices, literature was reviewed and 16 airports were surveyed.

Book An Optimization Model for Sub surface Utility Engineering During the Design Process

Download or read book An Optimization Model for Sub surface Utility Engineering During the Design Process written by Michael Anthony Coffey and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: Implementation of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) during the design process is becoming more and more of a mainstream operational standard for civil engineering projects. Many states are developing systems of implementation within their Department of Transportation (DOT) for SUE to become part of the highway and roadway design process. However, there are still traditional sequences of design development that exist which do not consider the benefits of SUE early enough in the design process or not at all. The proper application to optimize the use of SUE by the Quality Level (QL) of information, the timing, and the designer decision based on project complexity is still needed.

Book Subsurface Utility Engineering A Feasibility Study and Guideline for Naval Facilities Engineering Command

Download or read book Subsurface Utility Engineering A Feasibility Study and Guideline for Naval Facilities Engineering Command written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a general consensus among engineers and facility managers of military installations that the utility records and as-built drawings are of poor quality and/or inaccurate. The goal of verifying the location of all underground utilities before commencement of a construction project is usually unachievable. During the early stages of a construction project, an unknown subsurface utility is often discovered which results in a contract modification and an increased price of the project. Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is an engineering discipline used to designate and verify the location of underground utilities and other obstructions. SUE is not a new technology although it has made significant advances in recent years, including the development and adoption of ASCE Standard Guideline 38-02. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), metal detectors and other designating devices are used in conjunction with vacuum excavators to verify the horizontal and vertical position of the utility.
