Book Substitution Dynamical Systems Spectral Analysis

Download or read book Substitution Dynamical Systems Spectral Analysis written by Martine Queffélec and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-01-30 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume mainly deals with the dynamics of finitely valued sequences, and more specifically, of sequences generated by substitutions and automata. Those sequences demonstrate fairly simple combinatorical and arithmetical properties and naturally appear in various domains. As the title suggests, the aim of the initial version of this book was the spectral study of the associated dynamical systems: the first chapters consisted in a detailed introduction to the mathematical notions involved, and the description of the spectral invariants followed in the closing chapters. This approach, combined with new material added to the new edition, results in a nearly self-contained book on the subject. New tools - which have also proven helpful in other contexts - had to be developed for this study. Moreover, its findings can be concretely applied, the method providing an algorithm to exhibit the spectral measures and the spectral multiplicity, as is demonstrated in several examples. Beyond this advanced analysis, many readers will benefit from the introductory chapters on the spectral theory of dynamical systems; others will find complements on the spectral study of bounded sequences; finally, a very basic presentation of substitutions, together with some recent findings and questions, rounds out the book.

Book The Substitute Teachers Survival Manual

Download or read book The Substitute Teachers Survival Manual written by Jonathan P. Coron and published by Hog Press. This book was released on 2017-04-09 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual was recommended to you/provided for you or purchased out of interest. Professors of education may also find this manual interesting as relatively few of them have had experience with substitute teaching. It is one of the valuable resources that "subs" can use. This was designed to help make a potentially very difficult job perhaps a lot easier. It is designed to help you not only survive but to feel confident and in relatively full control when you are working with students for perhaps the first time. For best results, read through this entire manual hopefully before your first substitute teaching session. Most of the information provided in this manual is geared to middle school/high school but a great deal of it is applicable to younger populations. Ideally, the substitute teacher can work with almost any age of student, but the ideal is not common. Most substitutes tend to work with just the population they feel most comfortable with and this is often the best thing to do unless the reader has a great need for salary and is willing to take whatever comes around for subbing opportunities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion Engineering, Second Edition maintains the same goal as the original: to present the fundamentals of combustion science with application to today’s energy challenges. Using combustion applications to reinforce the fundamentals of combustion science, this text provides a uniquely accessible introduction to combustion for undergraduate students, first-year graduate students, and professionals in the workplace. Combustion is a critical issue impacting energy utilization, sustainability, and climate change. The challenge is to design safe and efficient combustion systems for many types of fuels in a way that protects the environment and enables sustainable lifestyles. Emphasizing the use of combustion fundamentals in the engineering and design of combustion systems, this text provides detailed coverage of gaseous, liquid and solid fuel combustion, including focused coverage of biomass combustion, which will be invaluable to new entrants to the field. Eight chapters address the fundamentals of combustion, including fuels, thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, flames, detonations, sprays, and solid fuel combustion mechanisms. Eight additional chapters apply these fundamentals to furnaces, spark ignition and diesel engines, gas turbines, and suspension burning, fixed bed combustion, and fluidized bed combustion of solid fuels. Presenting a renewed emphasis on fundamentals and updated applications to illustrate the latest trends relevant to combustion engineering, the authors provide a number of pedagogic features, including: Numerous tables with practical data and formulae that link combustion fundamentals to engineering practice Concise presentation of mathematical methods with qualitative descriptions of their use Coverage of alternative and renewable fuel topics throughout the text Extensive example problems, chapter-end problems, and references These features and the overall fundamentals-to-practice nature of this book make it an ideal resource for undergraduate, first level graduate, or professional training classes. Students and practitioners will find that it is an excellent introduction to meeting the crucial challenge of engineering sustainable combustion systems in a cost-effective manner. Book The Economics of Taxation second edition

Download or read book The Economics of Taxation second edition written by Bernard Salanie and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2011-11-10 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise and rigorous text that combines theory, empirical work, and policy discussion to present core issues in the economics of taxation. This concise introduction to the economic theories of taxation is intuitive yet rigorous, relating the theories both to existing tax systems and to key empirical studies. The Economics of Taxation offers a thorough discussion of the consequences of taxes on economic decisions and equilibrium outcomes, as well as useful insights into how policy makers should design taxes. It covers such issues of central policy importance as taxation of income from capital, environmental taxation, and tax credits for low-income families. This second edition has been significantly revised and updated. Changes include a substantially rewritten chapter on direct taxation; a discussion of recent research in the chapter on mixed taxation; the replacement of the chapter on capital taxation with a chapter on the “new dynamic public finance”; and considerations of environmental taxation in both theory and policy chapters. The book is aimed at graduate students or advanced undergraduates taking public finance classes as well as economists who want to learn more about the topic. It combines discussion of theory, empirical work, and policy objectives in compact form. Appendixes provide necessary background material on consumer and producer theory and the theory of optimal control.

Book Love Against Substitution

  • Author : Eric B. Song
  • Publisher : Cultural Memory in the Present
  • Release : 2022-04-26
  • ISBN : 9781503631403

Download or read book Love Against Substitution written by Eric B. Song and published by Cultural Memory in the Present. This book was released on 2022-04-26 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are we unique as individuals, or are we replaceable? Seventeenth-century English literature pursues these questions through depictions of marriage. The writings studied in this book elevate a love between two individuals who deem each other to be unique to the point of being irreplaceable and this vocabulary allows writers to put affective pressure on the meaning of marriage as Pauline theology defines it. Stubbornly individual, love threatens to short-circuit marriage's function in directing intimate feelings toward a corporate experience of Christ's love. The literary project of testing the meaning of marriage proved to be urgent work throughout the seventeenth century. Monarchy itself was put on trial in this century, and so was the usefulness of marriage in linking Christian belief with the legitimacy of hereditary succession. Starting at the end of the sixteenth century with Edmund Spenser, and then exploring works by William Shakespeare, William Davenant, John Milton, Lucy Hutchinson, and Aphra Behn, Eric Song offers a new account of how notions of unique personhood became embedded in a literary way of thinking and feeling about marriage.
