Book Subsonic Characteristics of a Twin jet Swept wing Fighter Model with Maneuvering Devices

Download or read book Subsonic Characteristics of a Twin jet Swept wing Fighter Model with Maneuvering Devices written by Edward J. Ray and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted at Mach numbers ranging from 0.06 to 0.94 to determine the effects of various combinations of leading-edge slat devices on the static aerodynamic characteristics of a twin-jet swept-wing fighter model. The study also included a determination of the effects of wing leading-edge droop, trailing-edge chord-extensions, wing fences, and wing-planform and camber modifications. The angle-of-attack range generally extended from about minus 2 deg to 24 deg and the sideslip angles ranged from about minus 6 deg to 13 deg.

Book Partners in Freedom

Download or read book Partners in Freedom written by Joseph R. Chambers and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Established in 1917 as the nation#s first civil aeronautics research laboratory under the National Advisory Commit-tee for Aeronautics (NACA), Langley was a small laboratory that solved the problems of flight for military and civil aviation. Throughout history, Langley has maintained a working partnership with the Department of Defense, U.S. industry, universities, and other government agencies to support the defense of the nation with research. During World War II, Langley directed virtually all of its workforce and facilities to research for military aircraft. Following the war, a balanced program of military and civil projects was undertaken. In some instances Langley research from one aircraft program helped solve a problem in another. At the conclusion of some programs, Langley obtained the research models for additional tests to learn more about previously unknown phenomena. The data also proved useful in later developmental programs. Many of the military aircraft in the U.S. inventory as of late 1999 were over 20 years old. Langley activities that contributed to the development of some of these aircraft began over 50 years prior. This publication documents the role, from early concept stages to problem solving for fleet aircraft, that Langley played in the military aircraft fleet of the United States for the 1990's.

Book Wind Tunnel Investigation of the Aerodynamic Hysteresis Phenomenon on the F 4 Aircraft and Its Effects on Aircraft Motion

Download or read book Wind Tunnel Investigation of the Aerodynamic Hysteresis Phenomenon on the F 4 Aircraft and Its Effects on Aircraft Motion written by J. F. Herman and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind tunnel test program and an analytical study were conducted to investigate aerodynamic hysteresis phenomena on the F-4 aircraft. The wind tunnel test was conducted in the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel (4T) to investigate the source of aerodynamic hysteresis in static aerodynamic data. The wind tunnel test also provided data that were used in a motion simulation study of the effect of hysteresis on predicted aircraft motion. Static longitudinal lateral directional force and moment data and wing pressure data were obtained on a 0.5-scale model (without pylons or external stores) with various simulated leading-edge slats. These data include the effects of Mach number, angle of attack, model movement, and time dependence on the aerodynamic hysteresis characteristics. Data are presented for the Mach number range from 0.7 to 0.95 at angles of attack from -4 to 24 deg at zero deg sideslip angle and for sideslipe angles from -12 to 12 deg at angles of attack of 5, 10, 15, and 20 deg. Six-degrees-of-freedom motion simulation studies were used to assess the effect of hysteresis in the rolling-moment coefficient on the prediction of aircraft motion. Simulations of various flight maneuvers were conducted both with and without hysteresis in the aerodynamic data. (Author).
