Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skills and workforce development are at the heart of much research on work, employment, and management. But are they so important? To what extent can they make a difference for individuals, organizations, and nations? How are the supply and, more importantly, the utilization of skill, currently evolving? What are the key factors shaping skills trajectories of the future? This Handbook provides an authoritative consideration of issues such as these. It does so by drawing on experts in a wide range of disciplines including sociology, economics, labour/industrial relations, human resource management, education, and geography. The Handbook is relevant for all with an interest in the changing nature - and future - of work, employment, and management. It draws on the latest scholarly insights to shed new light on all the major issues concerning skills and training today. While written primarily by leading scholars in the field, it is equally relevant to policy makers and practitioners responsible for shaping the development of human capability today and into the future.

Book Either Kierkegaard Or Nietzsche

Download or read book Either Kierkegaard Or Nietzsche written by Tom P.S. Angier and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arguably Søren Kierkegaard and Friedrich Nietzsche are the two most significant moral philosophers of the nineteenth century, their works showing a remarkably trenchant and penetrating awareness of key ethical issues, while demonstrating a stylistic flair that is rare in philosophical writing. Angier argues that, despite the perceived stylistic opacity of these thinkers, their work does admit of comparison and rigorous analytic scrutiny which in turn yields new and significant insights into their philosophy. In this book Angier expounds the view that Kierkegaard both anticipated, and subjected to detailed critique, Nietzsche's central arguments in moral philosophy, exposing the weaknesses of what were to become the core Nietzschean positions and realizing the powerful attraction for people that these ideas would have. Angier brings this critique to our modern attention and defends the prefigured Kierkegaardian critique of Nietzsche.

Book Faithfully Seeking Understanding

Book excerpt: The selections are taken from chapters of Kuhn's books, including his Catholic Dogmatics, and from various articles that appeared in the Tübingen quarterly, Die theologische Quartalschrift. They are arranged according to the following topics: faith and reason; revelation and the personhood of God; responses to Protestant liberalism; theological topics, including grace and freedom, theology and the university; and Catholic fundamental theology. Though diverse in subject, when read together the essays yield a complete theological vision that derives from a carefully constructed theological foundation.

Book Interpretive Reasoning

    Book Details:
  • Author : Laurent Stern
  • Publisher : Cornell University Press
  • Release : 2005
  • ISBN : 9780801443305
  • Pages : 238 pages

Download or read book Interpretive Reasoning written by Laurent Stern and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laurent Stern here provides a concise account of the difficulties that arise within the interpretive process and in the context of interpretive conflict. Speakers and agents are expected by others to be occasionally insincere. Attempting to be tolerant of alternative interpretations, and dealing with the insincerity of others, often motivates interpreters themselves to become insincere. Accordingly, moral issues emerge for both speakers and interpreters. Interpretive Reasoning discusses such issues in the literature on interpretation.Stern offers a carefully argued account of the very idea of interpretation. What are the constraints on interpretations? What are our grounds for demanding that others agree with our interpretations? How do we support our interpretations? What are the types of interpretations we encounter? How are problems of first-person authority and self-knowledge connected with interpreting? While the author argues for interpretations supported by principles rather than by the consensus of interpreters, he also shows that even well-supported interpretations may be mistaken, and that some interpretive conflicts are interminable. Although this is a book in philosophy, scholars and students in the humanities, the social sciences, and disciplines concerned with interpretive reasoning can read it profitably.
